Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker stared down for the first time last week since their middleweight title unification fight at UFC 243 was made official.

The two have been going back-and-forth on social media but finally got a chance to look into each other’s eyes and gauge one another’s mindsets. While certain fighters look to see if their opponents have any doubts or fears, Adesanya felt that Whittaker simply reminded him of a meth head.

However, “The Last Stylebender” acknowledged that Whittaker was tough and that he didn’t need to get under his skin either:

“At the staredown, he just reminded me of like a meth head,” Adesanya told MMA Junkie. “When you look into someone’s eyes and you’re just like, yeah, and I’m looking at him like OK, cool. He’s a guy, he’s been here, he’s tough, he’s a vet in this game, so I don’t have to try and get under his skin.

He’s not under my skin, and he says he doesn’t think about me, and I don’t want him to. I don’t expect him to. My coaches think about him a lot, though, and we’re going to devise a beautiful strategy to take him off.”

While their UFC 243 headliner was made official, there is still no word on where it will take place — Australia or the United States. However, speaking earlier this week, Adesanya revealed it would “definitely” be taking place in Australia.

“Definitely. It’s not in America,” Adesanya said. “It’s a silly notion if they even decide to have it in America because duh, do you hate money? Yeah, it’s going to be in Australia, definitely.

Who do you think takes the fight between Adesanya and Whittaker?

A massive UFC middleweight title fight is approaching. Current undisputed champion Robert Whittaker will unify his title with interim champion Israel Adesanya at the UFC 243 pay-per-view (PPV).

The show is set for October 5, but no official location has been announced for the card at this time. However, it’s expected to take place in Australia, which would easily be the country’s biggest fight of all time. Whittaker and Adesanya are two of the most gifted strikers in the UFC.

Their matchup at UFC 243 certainly isn’t going to be one you’re going to want to miss. Recently, UFC Hall Of Famer Michael Bisping was interviewed by Helen Yee, and asked for his thoughts on the matchup. “The Count” noted that Adesanya has been talking a lot of smack heading into the fight, and believes Whittaker is going to make the Nigerian champ “eat his words”:

“Oh, you’re trying to get me to make a prediction and throw myself under a bus here,” Bisping said. “Because Adesanya doesn’t like it when everyone’s not tickling his balls. But, I got to say, he’s talking sh*it up there to Whittaker. Whittaker is going to make him eat his words.”

Do you agree with Bisping’s assessment of the matchup between Whittaker and Adesanya?

Robert Whittaker vs. Israel Adesanya has been made official for UFC 243 on October 5.

The middleweight title unification clash was always going to happen after Adesanya won the interim title at UFC 236 — the question was when it would be made official. On Friday, it was finally confirmed by the promotion.

Another question was where the event would take place. Initially, it was reported that Sydney would play host to the event. Later, reports came out that it would be moved to Las Vegas due to a clash with the NRL Grand Final which was taking place the same day.

However, UFC president Dana White later confirmed the huge Australasian clash would still take place in Australia. Though no details about the venue are released as of now, the event is now expected to take place in Melbourne’s 55,000-seater Marvel Stadium.

Expect more fight announcements and details in the coming weeks.

Do you think this could be one of the biggest events of the year?
