Finally, in our main event of UFC 243, Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya unify their UFC middleweight titles.

Round 1:

Adesanya with a nice jab. Whittaker is having trouble getting inside and working with the range. Adesanya steps in with a shot and they temporarily clinch. Whittaker lands a nice hook. A nice lead hook connects for Whittaker, and he follows up with a kick to the body. Adesanya has had some powerful head kicks of his just blocked. A bit shot from Adesanya knocks Whittaker down badly, but he’ saved by the horn. If there was any more time left, the fight would’ve surely been stopped.

Round 2:

A big hook from Whittaker as he lunges in. A nice jab from Whittaker. A nice lead hook for Whittaker again. Adesanya connects on a hook that wobbles Whittaker a bit. A head kick from Adesanya is blocked but just wobbles Whittaker. Now Adesanya senses he’s in trouble and is picking up the volume. Some body attacks from Adesanya and Whittaker comes forward. A nice head kick from Whittaker lands. A big shot from Adesanya wobbles Whittaker badly. He jumps on for the ground-and-pound, but the referee has seen enough.

Round 1:

Iaquinta feints a takedown attempt and just misses on an overhand. Leg kick fromHooker connects as he tries to establish his jab as well. Another nice leg kick from Hooker, ho connects on a hook. A nice right hand connects from Iaquinta.

Another leg kick from Hooker. A leg kick from Hooker again and this time it takes the leg out from Iaquinta. Iaquinta in on the takedown and eats elbows. After a scramble, Hooker takes Iaquinta’s back and is working on a choke. Nice defense from Iaquinta and he gets to his feet. The round comes to an end.

Round 2:

A feint from Iaquinta on a takedown and he lands some nice hooks. A leg kick from Iaquinta now. Iaquinta closing the distance now trying to keep this fight inside the pocket to take away Hooker’s reach advantage. A leg kick from Hooker. Another Hooker leg kick and Iaquinta’s leg is hurting. A nice body shot connects for Iaquinta, and he follows up with two big shots to the dome.

Iaquinta starting to close in now. Hooker gets a body kick in. Iaquinta goes for another takedown but Hooker stuffs it well. Hooker sneaks in a big hook that drops Iaquinta down. Hooker trying to get some ground-and-pound now but there’s only seconds left. Iaquinta goes for a last-second ankle lock but the round comes to an end.

Round 3:

A nice overhand to open the round for Hooker. A nice head kick is just blocked from Hooker. Iaquinta steps in deep with a left hand. Hooker with a nice short hook that wobbles Iaquinta a bit. A hard body kick lands for Iaquinta but Hooker fires back with a nice straight. A nice right hand from Iaquinta now. Iaquinta starting to pick up the pace with a minute left, knowing he has to go for broke. A nice right-hand lands for Iaquinta. Another big leg kick from Hooker drops Iaquinta for a second. The fight comes to an end.

Official Result: Dan Hooker def. Al Iaquinta via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Next up on the the UFC 243 main card is a heavyweight bout between Tai Tuivasa and Sergey Spivak.

Round 1: Tuivasa drops Spivak early on with a leg kick. He attempts another but is caught by Spivak who takes him down. Tuivasa gets back up and they go back to striking. Spivak takes him down again but they get back up. Spivak catches another leg kick and takes Tuivasa down and proceeds to get a fourth takedown later on, remaining on top for much longer. Tuivasa eventually escapes but is once again taken down by the Moldovan who remains on top for the remainder of the round.

Round 2: Spivak starts round two with another takedown. He is getting takedowns with ease but is not as successful at keeping Tuivasa down. Tuivasa gets up again and the two start exchanging again. They get into a clinch position but separate and exchange leather. Spivak attempts a double leg takedown and it looks like Tuivasa defended it only to be taken down. Spivak moves to full mount. He elbows Tuivasa and bloodies him up in the process before landing ground and pound. He eventually locks in an arm triangle choke as Tuivasa goes to sleep.

Round 1: The fight begins with a feeling out process. The two exchange leg kicks but nothing significant lands in the first few minutes. Lima suffers an eye-poke while attempting a body shot as the action is stopped momentarily. The action resumes and we return to mainly leg kicks before the round comes to an end.

Round 2: Lima’s leg kicks are adding up as he drops Jumeau with one early on in the second round. The fight briefly goes to the ground with Lima on top before the two stand up again. Lima catches a body kick from Jumeau and the two get into a clinch position shortly afterwards with Lima pressing. They separate as Jumeau struggles a bit with his leg. However, he catches Lima but is unable to capitalize and gets countered. Lima drags him down and ends the last minute on top.

Round 3: The two keep their distance in the third round while feinting. Lima attempts a takedown but Jumeau is able to keep it to a clinch position. They separate but it’s mostly Lima dictating things despite Jumeau advancing much more. This looks like a win for the Brazilian.
