It was recently announced that Alexander Volkanovski will be Max Holloway’s next challenger for the 145-pound title.

The pair will meet at UFC 245 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 14. Speaking to EMG Access, Volkanovski discussed his upcoming fight with Holloway, admitting he’s already looking passed “Blessed,” fully expecting to dethrone the Hawaiian, and promises to grant him an immediate rematch. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I’m going to show the world that I’m the best featherweight. I’m the best featherweight in the world, and I’m going to show that December 14th,” Volkanovski said.

“People can say whatever they want. He’s been a great champion. If he wants a rematch again — I’m already looking through this. I know I’m winning. I’m taking that belt. If they want a rematch I’ll do that. I’ll beat him again and solidify I’m the best in the world. Then everyone can just jump on board.”

Holloway is on a 14-fight win streak at featherweight. In his last outing, he successfully retained his featherweight title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 240 in July. He’ll take on a very deserving challenger in the 30-year-old Volkanovski, who has won 17-straight fights since his last professional loss in 2013.

He comes off of a unanimous decision win over ex-featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo in Brazil this past May. Volkanovski is extremely well-rounded and has proven to be one of the best fighters at 145 pounds in the world. It will be interesting to see if he can be the man to finally dethrone Holloway from the featherweight throne.

What do you think about Volkanovski admittedly looking past Holloway?

If Khabib Nurmagomedov can’t make a date against Tony Ferguson next, Dustin Poirier is ready to step in for the bout.

Ferguson recently called out Nurmagomedov to settle their differences at the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) event this December. However, if “The Eagle” doesn’t take the fight, Poirier has thrown his name into the hat for the fight.

Poirier had a five-fight win streak snapped against Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi at UFC 242 earlier this month. Nurmagomedov submitted Poirier in the third round with a rear-naked choke. Now, fans are calling for “The Eagle” to take on what they believe to be the Russian’s biggest threat, in Ferguson.

“El Cucuy” is the owner of one of the most ridiculous win streaks in the UFC. He has won 12-straight fights over notable names such as Edson Barboza, Rafael dos Anjos, Kevin Lee, Anthony Pettis, and Donald Cerrone. Given Ferguson’s unorthodox striking style, relentless pressure, and jiu-jitsu ability, the stylistic matchup against a fighter of Khabib’s caliber is an extremely interesting one.

However, if Ferguson is matched up against Poirier, that could also present a very interesting matchup of styles. Both men are black belts in jiu-jitsu and posses fight-ending knockout power. No matter which way you book it, fight fans are in for a treat when it comes to matchups at the top of the 155-pound rankings.

What do you think about Poirier volunteering to face Ferguson next?

Could fans be in store for one more huge title fight before the end of the year? Tony Ferguson is definitely hoping so.

On Monday, “El Cucuy” called out Khabib Nurmagomedov for a lightweight title fight to take place at UFC 245. That event is the promotion’s end-of-year show and takes place in Las Vegas on December 14.

“Pretty Sure We Can Make Some Room For Good Ol’Fathead @TeamKhabib # TeamTiramisuTakeover @ufc @danawhite Make It Happen #DefendorVacate #Accepted @BallengeeGroup Dec 14 -Champ Shit Only™” Ferguson tweeted while posting a picture of his past opponents that he had bloodied up.

Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson is a fight the mixed martial arts world has been hoping to see for many years now. It has been booked four times so far, but was called off on each occasion due to injuries. The most recent case was at UFC 223 in April last year where Ferguson got injured a week before the fight.

If booked for UFC 245, it would be the third title fight on the card and likely serve as the main event. Other title bouts booked are Max Holloway vs. Alexander Volkanovski and Amanda Nunes vs. Germaine de Randamie.

Hopefully, the fifth time is a charm.

Max Holloway is set to return to the Octagon again before the end of the year.

After an initial report from John Hyon Ko, the Daily Telegraph reported that Holloway will defend his featherweight title against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 245. It was later confirmed by the UFC:

Holloway is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over Frankie Edgar at UFC 240 in July. Volkanovski, meanwhile, last outpointed Jose Aldo at UFC 237 in May to cement his place as the next title challenger.

There was initial talk of the title fight being the co-main event at UFC 243 which takes place next month in Australia. That event will be headlined by an Australasian middleweight title unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya.

However, it was too short a layoff for Holloway and the fight will now take place at the end-of-year pay-per-view.

UFC 245 takes place December 14 in Las Vegas. Another title fight is on the cards as Amanda Nunes defends her women’s bantamweight title against Germaine de Randamie. There is expected to be one more title fight announced which could serve as the main event.

What do you think of the news? Who wins?
