“I don’t think the operation is too crazy but there’s a couple of breaks in there, so I’m gonna have to get that sorted,” Volkanovski said.

Volkanovski comes off of a big win over Max Holloway in the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event. The Australian-born champion bested his Hawaiian counterpart on the judges’ scorecards via unanimous decision after five rounds of fighting. Along with the victory and title, Volkanovski now finds himself on a 18-fight winning streak.

He put on a phenomenal performance against Holloway, who many believe to be the best featherweight in UFC history, on a massive stage to capture the title. Now, he claims he’s ready to grant “Blessed” an immediate rematch if that’s the way the UFC opts to go next. Holloway remains adamant that he’s still young and plans on getting back to the title down the road. He has even suggested rematching Volkanovski in Australia for what would be a tremendous event.

What do you think about Volkanovski requiring surgery to repair his broken hand? Who do you want to see Volknovski defend his title against first?

This past weekend (Sat. December 14, 2019), Petr Yan and Cody Garbrandt certainly laid down the groundwork for a potential fight down the road.

Following Yan’s win over Garbrandt’s longtime friend and mentor, Urijah Faber, who he knocked out in the third round, Garbrandt and Yan engaged in an intense back-and-forth backstage. Garbrandt, who s currently set to face Raphael Assuncao in Ohio next year, is now eying a fight with Yan with a potential win over his Brazilian counterpart.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Yan opened up on what exactly went down between himself and Garbrandt backstage. It seems an exchange of comments on Instagram beforehand led to the disagreement.

“Nothing really happened,” Yan said. “Cody wrote, ‘Get this MFer,’ on Dana White’s Instagram page, I jokingly replied, ‘You are next, No Chin,’ and he tried to act tough and crossed the line by commenting that he will see me tomorrow and smack me like a little ho.

“You all saw what happened when he saw me face to face: he was hiding his hands behind his back, acting all emotional and didn’t back up his words proving that he is all talk. He is a puppy – he barks, but doesn’t bite.”

As for whether or not Garbrandt presents him any challenges that he finds concerning, Yan admits the Team Alpha Male product has good speed and power, but points out his chin isn’t great either.

“Maybe he has speed and power, but he can’t take a punch,” Yan said. “It would just be a matter of time before I can catch him and after that you will see another fall of the man with no chin. Now I understand that he talks big just to stay relevant. He is trying to attach his name to mine because I just won the fight and I’m on the rise.

“He needs to win a fight first before calling me out. To be honest, at this stage of my career, I’m not interested in this fight at all. I believe I deserve to fight for the title and will talk to UFC about that first.

“After that we can plan and see what fights will make sense. In the future it’s still possible, I would love to show you Russian boxing style.”

What do you think about a potential fight between Garbrandt and Yan? Who are you picking?

UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes there needs to be an overhaul in the way mixed martial arts (MMA) is currently being judged.

Max Holloway recently appeared on Rogan’s podcast and mentioned how he thought he did enough to retain his featherweight title against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 245 this past weekend. He notably stated how he took the least damage from all his title fights and ended up losing a decision.

Although Rogan believed Volkanovski won the fight, he did agree with Holloway that there were flaws in the judging system:

“I think the system sucks,” Rogan said (via BJ Penn). “The 10-point must system. It’s boxing’s system, it’s not our system. We shouldn’t have that system. We should have a more comprehensive system that recognizes everything.”

Rogan then pointed to a major issue in MMA judging — who are the judges and what is their experience with the sport?

“I think there’s a real problem with judges not even being martial artists. That’s a giant problem,” he added. “The judges should at least have some martial arts experience and I know there’s a bunch of them that have never even f*cking trained, they just took some courses.

“It’s horrible. It’s horrible, and they don’t do anything about it. There’s people out there that have put in bad decision after bad decision, and then you see them still being listed as judges, and you’re like ‘this is crazy’. I want to ask them questions, I want to show them a video.

“… It’s like passing a written test but never having driven a car. It’s like ‘here’s a driving license’ but you don’t know how to f*cking hit the gas, you don’t know how much brake you should apply. When you see some of these people that are judging, you know they’ve never done anything. They don’t have any idea of what’s going on, they just have a cursory understanding of fighting, and that’s not acceptable for the highest level of the game.”

Rogan certainly brings up a valid point.

Michael Bisping: Colby Covington Getting Broken Jaw Is ‘Karma’

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping believes Colby Covington’s broken jaw was karma for his pre-fight comments towards Kamaru Usman.

Covington attempted to win the undisputed title when he faced Kamaru Usman in the UFC 245 headliner this past weekend. However, he suffered a broken jaw — a non-displaced midline mandible fracture to be exact — during the fight en route to a fifth-round TKO defeat.

Many not only in the mixed martial arts world but outside of it took pleasure in Covington’s defeat with #MAGAJAW even trending on Twitter soon after. And although Covington wants to get right back into training, Bisping believes there will be mental aftereffects:

“I’m not sure how long the recovery of a broken jaw is,” Bisping said on his podcast (via MMA News). “It might not be that long, I think he could be back within six months. But you know, the real recovery from suffering a broken jaw is the mental side of things. You know what I mean? Cause that’s your money maker to a certain degree. They talk about people say, ‘oh his chin is gone.’ But when you’ve broken your f*cking jaw, we’ve seen historically one time someone breaks the jaw it becomes more susceptible to breaking again. And there’s got to be a certain psychological demon there.

“I think if you were to have your jaw broken, you’re definitely gonna be a little gun shy going forward cause you’re like, ‘fuck, last time this jaw got broke.’ And if you start making a habit of getting your jaw broken, you’re a fighter so your career as a fighter is over. It’s done, it’s finished.”

However, there is irony in Covington breaking his jaw. After all, “Chaos” usually runs his mouth to antagonize people while Bisping made note of his own comments that he would break Usman’s jaw — only for it to be the other way around:

“He even said that Marty Fakenewsman was going to be drinking through a straw because he was gonna break his jaw,” Bisping added. “That is karma right then and there. It was a just stoppage. [Referee Marc] Goddard did a good job, the eye poke was real. Listen, it was a great fight.”

Do you agree with Bisping?
