UFC president Dana White says middleweight and strawweight champion, Israel Adesanya and Weili Zhang are stars.

They are both fighting at UFC 248 where Adesanya is looking to defend his middleweight strap against Yoel Romero in the main event. Zhang, meanwhile, is taking on Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event.

For White, he says what makes Adesanya a star is the fact he has a good personality and can fight.

“He’s a good-looking kid, he speaks very well, he can dance,” White said to the media (via BJPENN.com). “He’s got a lot of personality. But at the end of the day, the thing that matters is he can fight. This Romero fight makes him even more interesting. He could be sitting around waiting right now for [Paulo] Costa to get ready—and that’s the fight that should happen. He wants to fight Romero because he feels like his legacy won’t be complete without this Romero fight, which is a very dangerous fight. Nobody wants to fight Romero.”

As for Weili Zhang, Dana White believes being the first UFC Chinese champion and her fighting style has made her into a star.

“You can take all of the things that make her special—first Chinese champion, female, which people love right now—but at the end of the day, she is a gangster,” White said. “She is focused on being the best. I just love this fight. I love this fight with her and Joanna so much. I literally can’t wait for Saturday for this fight. When these two start walking in, I’m going to be going crazy like a giddy little fan. I’m telling you I can’t wait for this fight.”

In order for both of them to remain stars and increase their star power they will need to defend their belts on Saturday.

Weili Zhang is still angry and irritated with Joanna Jedrzejczyk for her comments towards the Coronavirus and the jokes she made.

Back in January, the former champ posted a photo of her wearing a mask and made fun of the Coronavirus. Immediately, Zhang and many took offense to it and now two months later, the Chinese champion is still angry.

“I was really angry about that, especially since she’s making jokes about the outbreak, and making jokes about our nation, our country,” Zhang said to the media (via BJPENN.com). “Because a lot of died from this coronavirus, a lot of families lost their members around the world, lots of kids lost their parents and became orphans. It’s a very tragic moment for all the Chinese people, but not only the Chinese people but all the people around the world. And she’s making jokes on that? It really, really made me irritated

“It’s probably because of the cultural difference. In Chinese culture, we don’t laugh at people who are suffering,” she continued. “We help them, we help them up, we build them up. But I don’t know about her. I’m just really angry about it.”

On Saturday night, in the co-main event of UFC 248, Zhang will look to defend her title against Jedrzejczyk. It is an interesting fight where the champion is a slight favorite.

Zhang is riding a very impressive 20-fight winning streak but is just 4-0 inside the Octagon and coming off a shocking first-round knockout win over Jessica Andrade to win the title.

Jedrzejczyk, meanwhile, returned to the strawweight division with a very impressive decision win over Michelle Waterson last time out. Before that, she suffered a decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko for the vacant flyweight belt.

This is no doubt an interesting fight and whether or not Zhang’s emotions will play into the fight is to be seen.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya erased any concerns of him having a staph infection.

Adesanya defends his middleweight title against Yoel Romero at UFC 248 this Saturday in Las Vegas. Ahead of the fight, a recent interview revealed what appeared to be a lump or gash on his arm with many speculating that it could be a staph infection.

If that were the case, Adesanya would not only be compromised during the fight — there would also be a possibility of the fight not taking place if the commission came across the wound.

However, “The Last Stylebender” denied having staph as he claims it was just a scrape on his arm.

“It’s just a little something, a little scrape of myself,” Adesanya said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday (via Sherdog). “That sh*t happens, but whatever. I’ll rub it on his face when it’s time.”

Adesanya went on to add that the wound hasn’t affected his preparation while he hasn’t taken any antibiotics to treat it either.

Whatever the wound is, the champion doesn’t seem too bothered by it:

“I’ve had malaria damn near eight times,” Adesanya added. “I don’t know what else I’ve had. Like you think staph’s going to f*ck with me? … I looked at it and went ‘no,’ and it went away.”

What do you make of Adesanya’s response?
