It doesn’t look like Jose Aldo and Marlon Vera will be competing on the UFC 255 card.

It was recently reported that an exciting bantamweight bout between the pair was in the works for the UFC 255 pay-per-view taking place November 21 in Las Vegas.

However, that is unlikely now according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani who states that Vera is now hoping it can be booked for UFC 256 on December 12.

“The Marlon Vera vs. Jose Aldo fight isn’t a done deal for UFC 255 on 11/21, sources say. Vera tells me he loves the fight and is hoping it can be booked for UFC 256 on 12/12, but it is very unlikely that it happens on 11/21.”

UFC 255 is currently headlined by a flyweight title fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez. A women’s flyweight title fight features in the co-main event as Valentina Shevchenko defends her title against Jennifer Maia.

Compared to recent pay-per-view events, UFC 255 is weak on star power and the addition of Aldo vs. Vera would have certainly helped.

However, that could be UFC 256’s gain as it also plays host to two title fights including a women’s featherweight clash between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson and a bantamweight collision between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling. Both Aldo and Vera could also serve as potential backups for the bantamweight title fight should either competitor be unable to compete. For now, though, nothing is confirmed.

Aldo is coming off a fifth-round TKO defeat to Yan at UFC 251 in July. Vera, meanwhile, is coming off a first-round TKO win over Sean O’Malley at UFC 252 in August.

Who do you think wins between Aldo and Vera?

Robbie Lawler Reportedly Out, Mike Perry Calls For Khamzat Chimaev At Middleweight

Former UFC welterweight champion, ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler is reportedly out of his scheduled UFC 255 matchup with the polarizing, ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry on November 21 due to injury – with the latter now staking his claim for a pairing with uber-prospect, Khamzat ‘Borz’ Chimaev at middleweight instead.

Lawler, who dropped his fourth-consecutive loss at UFC Vegas 8 in August in a one-sided unanimous decision defeat to fellow welterweight staple, ‘The Haitian Sensation’ Neil Magny, along with Perry was notably absent from the UFC 255 main card during the promotion’s broadcast of UFC 254 last weekend on ‘Fight Island’.

With the search actively ongoing to secure a short-notice replacement for Perry – the brash Flint, Michigan native has offered to meet with the already booked, Chimaev as high as 185-pounds in a short-notice tie.

So @Ruthless_RL pulled out (of the fight) due to an injury. Looking for a replacement I asked for @KChimaev and we can do it at middleweight @ufc @FirstRoundMgmt

Chechen-born finisher, Chimaev is scheduled to headline UFC Vegas 15 on December 19 opposite surging contender, Leon ‘The Rocky’ Edwards, however, a quickfire turn around wouldn’t prove uncharted territory for the AllStars trainee.

Making his promotional debut during the promotion’s first visit to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE this summer – Chimaev laid waste to both John Phillips and promotional newcomer, Rhys McKee in devastating fashion, in the space of a record-setting ten-day period. At UFC Vegas 11 in September, Chimaev finished grappling ace, Gerald Meerschaert with a spectacular one-punch knockout in just seventeen-seconds

For Perry, the 29-year-old has been under the magnifying glass recently, following an incident with an elderly patron at a Lubbock, Texas establishment following his unanimous decision win over Mickey Gall at UFC Vegas 4 in June – where he was infamously cornered by only his girlfriend, Latory Gonzalez. Perry has also recently denied allegations of domestic abuse by his ex-wife, Danielle Nickerson.

In August, Perry also named the above-mentioned Chimaev on a death list alongside the likes of Niko Price, Michel Pereira, Nicolas Dalby, and arch-rival, former welterweight title challenger, Darren ‘The Gorilla’ Till.

Report: José Aldo vs. Marlon Vera In The Works For UFC 255 On Nov 21

A high-profile bantamweight bout between former UFC featherweight kingpin, José Aldo ‘Jr.’ and division contender, Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera is currently targeted to feature at UFC 255 on November 21 from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas.

Recent UFC 251 feature, Aldo dropped his third straight defeat at the July ‘Fight Island’ event, slumping to a fifth-round knockout loss against current bantamweight titleholder, Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan in a largely competitive back-and-forth for vacant gold.

Scoring the most high-profile victory of his professional career at UFC 252 in August – Team Oyama trainee, Vera took home an opening frame knockout win over the fan and betting favourite, ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley after an earlier leg kick caused an injury to the Montana native’s right leg. Combate’s Raphael Marinho was first to report the news of the targeted tie.

Former WEC and UFC 145-pound best, Aldo was originally scheduled to headline UFC 250 opposite then champion, Henry Cejudo in May, until VISA issues amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced his withdrawal.

Aldo had been inserted into the title bout against Yan despite losing his bantamweight division debut against compatriot, Marlon Moraes at UFC 245 in December of last year in a close three-round affair.

Prior to that loss, Aldo saw his two-fight rise against the veteran Jeremy Stephens, and Brasília native, Renato Moicano halted by current featherweight best, Alexander Volkanovski.

Unbeaten in his last six at bantamweight – Vera looks to make the Octagon walk for the third time this year, following a contentious decision loss to Song Yadong at a UFC Fight Night Jacksonville event in May in a 145-pound pairing. In the weeks and months following his win over O’Malley, Vera has called for pairings with former world champions, the above-mentioned, Aldo as well as Dominick Cruz

Before his controversial judging defeat to Yadong, the Ecuadorian had notched five other wins on the trot at 135-pounds  – besting Andre Ewell, Nohelin Hernandez, Frankie Saenz, Guido Cannetti, and Wuliji Buren.

UFC 255 takes place from the UFC Apex facility on November 21 – with Vera’s Team Oyama training partner, Alex Perez taking on Deiveson Figueiredo for the undisputed flyweight crown in the showcase’s headliner
