One-time UFC lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler has explained why Dan Hooker would’ve never been the preference for his debut fight in the promotion. In 2020, Chandler joined the MMA leader and departed Bellator, where he’d held the 155-pound gold in three separate reigns. After serving as backup in Abu Dhabi for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s title…

Following his knockout win against Conor McGregor, Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation received another financial boost.
In the lead-up to UFC 257, the atmosphere of goodwill and respect was rampant. As well as a trash talk-free press conference, Conor McGregor even pledged to donate $500,000 to Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation. This sum was given another bonus after the bout concluded, with ‘The Diamond’ auctioning off his worn fight gear. Clearly looking to make the most money possible, it seems that every piece of clothing worn the night of the fight was put forward. With a collection which includes his shorts, shirt, hat, gloves, and hand wraps, it seems the only item not included was Poirier’s underwear. This vast collection went down a treat, however, with it all going to the winner for $26,200 after 49 bids. (H/T MMAFighting.com)
There isn’t a better cause to see get a real boost in the funding than the Good Fight Foundation. Assisting with everything from building water wells in Uganda to buying school supplies for children in Louisiana, the organisation seems to be helping in every area they possibly can.
Since the coronavirus pandemic has plunged the world into turmoil, Poirier and his charity have stepped up to the plate. They began helping to fund the Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadia, La. This included providing everything from transportation, to tutoring, to school supplies to underprivileged children. It’s truly great to see someone in a position of influence using it to great effect!
After the huge upset against Conor McGregor, Poirier certainly holds all of the cards.

Super Bowl weekend is approaching, which means on top of the Lombardi trophy being handed out, a number of high-profile commercials are set to air. As it turns out, this year’s NFL championship will have something for UFC fans, as Dustin Poirier and Rose Numajunas are set to make an appearance.
The finale of the NFL season is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, with the 2015 Super Bowl drawing in over 114 million viewers. This year’s Super Bowl could challenge that record as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – led by arguably the greatest of all-time, Tom Brady – take on the man many predict will one day overtake that title, Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
With a 30-second ad during the game costing about $5.6 million, companies usually go all-out with their commercials during the event. In a spot for guaranteedRate Mortgage entitled “Believe You Will“, Poirier and Numajunas are featured alongside NASCAR’s Ryan Newman and figure-skater Starr Andrews, among others.
Poirier is highlighted scoring his second-round knockout of Conor McGregor at UFC 257. The ad also cuts in clips of Poirier’s training regime, and his reaction to winning the interim UFC lightweight championship over Max Holloway in 2019. Since his win over McGregor, ‘The Diamond’ has been linked to a title fight as well as a trilogy fight against ‘The Notorious One’.
The greatest moment of Namajunas’ career is also highlighted, as she can be seen landing shots against Joanna Jedrzejczyk and holding the UFC strawweight championship over her shoulder. She won the title at UFC 217 and defended it in a rematch a year later at UFC 223 before dropping the belt in a fight against Jessica Andrade. After coming back to beat Andrade in a rematch, Namajunas is expected to face Zhang Weili for another shot at the belt.
Having multiple fighters featured on such a massive platform has to be considered a big win not just for the UFC, but MMA as a whole. Years ago, it would be hard to even imagine mixed martial artists getting this much exposure on a national scale. While the ad is set to run during a sporting event, the commercials have become as much of a draw as the game itself and are often geared towards mainstream audiences. This just goes to show how far the organization and sport have come in recent years.
What do you think about Dustin Poirier and Rose Namajunas appearing in a Super Bowl ad?

Conor McGregor broke down his defeat to Dustin Poirier at length.
Following the setback, McGregor cited inactivity as a factor for his defeat in addition to the leg kicks Poirier landed on him throughout the bout.
However, another factor was the boxing mindset McGregor went into the fight with as he was planning on facing Manny Pacquiao afterwards. That particular revelation explained why McGregor was in a flat-footed boxing stance for long periods of the fight.
Regardless, the Irishman is excited about the prospect of a potential trilogy with Poirier in the future.
“Some highlights from my last fight! What a trilogy I now have on my hands. Exciting!” McGregor wrote on Instagram. “With a handle on the leg kicks I will get back to having fun in there. I was in second gear cruising this fight. Best condition I’ve ever been in. After the wrestling and clinch exchanges my shots still held their pop. First time for me with this so I am very encouraged to keep going. It was the first time I did not use/nor need the stool between rounds also. I did need the stool after tho that’s for sure.
“I am extremely happy I did not need to use the stool between rounds here anyway. Another first for me! I am most certainly on the right path. Despite the loss I am on the correct path of evolution. Thoughts on the bout: I enjoyed racking up some more time inside the famed UFC Octagon. 40 seconds in 3 years is all I’d had up to this bout. I was savouring very second and enjoying my work. A little single disciplined in my approach and stance with mostly boxing. It’s what I get for picking this bout and opponent as a precursor to a boxing match against Pacman. I deserved to get the legs kicked off me going in with this thinking. This is not the game to play around with.
“Besides this tho my shots where sharp and I was in full control. Albeit the leg attacks where building up on me throughout the course. 18 in total thrown at me, with the final one buckling my leg fully, that was that. The peroneal nerve compromised. Fascinating! First time to experience it. Then a tremendous finishing flurry by my opponent. Hats off! A well fought fight by The Diamond. 1 a piece now with a Trilogy bout for all the marbles! Wow! Exciting! Not a trilogy I was expecting, nor the tactical affair I was anticipating, but I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t meant to be. This is exactly how this was always meant to be! Buzzing!!”
Whether McGregor gets a trilogy remains to be seen.
One would imagine it would be for a title as Poirier is undoubtedly the uncrowned champion of the lightweight division as he’s been claiming. Then again, McGregor getting a title shot on a two-fight losing streak in the division would not be well-received at all.
Regardless, a trilogy is seemingly what Poirier wants as well as as he tweeted soon after.
“You know we are going to do it a 3rd time ”
Do you think we’ll get the trilogy next? And will it be for a title?
