Alexa Grasso is looking to build on her win this past weekend.

Grasso made it two wins in a row for the first time in her UFC career following an impressive unanimous decision victory over Maycee Barber at UFC 258.

And following the event, UFC president Dana White was certainly pleased with the Mexican’s performance and even stated his belief that she could be the Ronda Rousey of Mexico if she continued to win her fights.

“Grasso is a girl that we were looking at a long time ago,” White said at the post-fight press conference (via WMMA Rankings). “We thought she was going to be the Ronda Rousey of Mexico. She had a couple of speed bumps in her career, but she’s on point now. Her punching is crisp and clean. The distance she kept.

“She couldn’t look any more perfect tonight going against an absolute savage.”

So what does Grasso think of the comparison?

“Of course I want to be like that in Mexico, but you have to also be intelligent,” Grasso said (via MMA Fighting). “To not let the hype and the media and all the volume and all the attention get more important than your training.

“So yes I love that, I love to be hearing that, but I just want to be focused on training and getting better and better and better.”

That’s certainly the right mindset for Grasso who is only continuing to get better.

Known for her striking and having a tendency to struggle on the ground, Grasso showed huge improvements on the ground against Barber in addition to some really effective clinchwork.

“I was the veteran this time in the cage,” Grasso added. “I’m usually the youngest athlete in the octagon, this time I was the veteran, so I used that on my win.”

If she can go on to become the first Mexican-born champion in the UFC, she will certainly reach Rousey levels of popularity in her native homeland.

Georges St-Pierre Has No Return Plans, Win Over Kamaru Usman Doesn’t Motivate Him

St-Pierre Usman

Georges St-Pierre has no interest in returning to fight Kamaru Usman.

Usman successfully defended his welterweight title for the third time following an impressive third-round TKO victory over Gilbert Burns in the UFC 258 headliner this past weekend.

As a result, he broke St-Pierre’s record (12) for most consecutive wins in the welterweight division with UFC president Dana White believing he could surpass the Canadian eventually.

Usman would even call for a fight with St-Pierre and mention how he’s seen him training constantly. However, St-Pierre is unable to train specifically for a fight.

Not to mention, he has no interest in competing at 39 years of age.

“Of course, I will always train but if ask me if I want to come back? Just try to put yourself into my shoes and try to come back,” St-Pierre told The Good Show on SN590 (via MMA Fighting). “Of course, if I tried to come back for a fight with Kamaru Usman, I would have to literally leave the country. You cannot train right now in Canada, with the Covid. I would have to bring my coaches somewhere, find a basecamp. Fly in some training partners because it’s Kamaru Usman. You need to get ready, you need a real training camp.

“Just that, leave my home, leave my family, leave my place, I’m very reluctant to do it and I don’t need to do it. I’m healthy, I’m wealthy, it’s not appealing to lose three months of my life, stress and everything for trying to get a win over Kamaru Usman. It’s not. As time pass by, it’s getting less and less and less appealing. I don’t think there’s anybody now that will make me come back. I’m good.”

Even without those restrictions, St-Pierre is not interested in a fight with Usman with “GSP” claiming a win over the current welterweight king doesn’t get him motivated.

“Time has passed,” St-Pierre added. “My life’s not the same as it was two years ago. The universe has changed, so to speak. That’s how it works. For now to go back for Kamaru, I’m very happy for what he does, what he has achieved, but to go back to give three months of my life, put myself in training camp to try and get a win against Kamaru Usman, it doesn’t get me motivated.

“I don’t know if there is anything that will get me motivated to go back to competition.”

Hopefully, St-Pierre will eventually get no more questions about a potential comeback.

Dana White On War With Streamers: ‘We’ll Keep Doing What We’re Doing’

Another UFC pay-per-view event meant another battle between the UFC and illegal streamers, and Dana White plans to keep on fighting.

Ahead of UFC 257 last month, White said that the UFC would be working with authorities to track down and prosecute illegal streamers. The threats worked as intended as the person they were targeting ahead of that event eventually wound up not streaming the card. Apparently, it was more of the same last weekend (H/T MMA Fighting).

“Not a lot of them were streaming tonight,” White reported at the UFC 258 press conference. “We were going to go after one of the big ones tonight, and they did not stream tonight. So we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”

The choice to more actively deter streamers ahead of UFC 257 wasn’t a coincidence, as it marked not only the return of Conor McGregor but was also the first card featuring the new UFC pay-per-view price tag of $69.99.The $5 increase was the second since the UFC started airing their events on ESPN+.

The streaming service has drawn the ire of fans seemingly since its launch. Not only does it require a monthly service fee just for the opportunity to purchase UFC events, but there have also been many complaints about the quality of the feed. Twitter exploded during UFC 257 with many fans complaining that the stream didn’t work, causing them to miss the first two fights completely. White later claimed that it was mostly fans on the West Coast of the United States that were effected. ESPN has since promised a partial refund for those in that area. However, there were still complaints about delays and pauses in the feed during UFC 258.

White’s plan to go after streamers individually has apparently thus far worked, despite not being able to charge anyone yet. It only makes sense that the UFC will continue to do so to protect their property. How successful it proves to be in the long run is still yet to be seen.

Do you think Dana White will ever be able to completely stop streamers?

Dana White Has High Hopes For Maycee Barber Despite Second Consecutive Loss

Barber

Maycee Barber still has plenty of time left in the sport.

Barber suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Alexa Grasso in the co-main event of UFC 258 last night in Las Vegas.

Despite a strong end to the fight, Barber was ultimately outclassed by Grasso in the first two rounds which led to what is now her second consecutive defeat following her unanimous decision loss to Roxanne Modafferi last year.

It’s an even bigger blow to her hopes of becoming the youngest champion in UFC history while any hype she still had is now all but gone.

However, White is still expecting big things from the 22-year-old.

“She’s a savage,” White said at the UFC 258 post-fight news conference (via MMA Junkie). “She’s a savage. She’s one of the most ambitious and toughest young women that I’ve ever met. So I expect nothing but big things from her.

“She’s a baby still. She’s young. She’s got nothing but time.”

As for her goal of becoming the youngest UFC champion ever? As far as White is concerned, it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t fulfill it as she will only get better regardless.

“I know she put this unbelievable pressure on herself to be a champion before Jon Jones, and it’s good to set goals for yourself,” White added. “But she’s a baby, she’s got nothing but time, and she’s only going to get better.”

Gaethje

Justin Gaethje was not surprised by Kamaru Usman’s performance against Gilbert Burns.

Usman came back from early adversity in the first round to deliver an impressive performance that ultimately saw him TKO Burns in the third round of their welterweight title headliner at UFC 258 last night.

Usman’s jab, in particular, was extremely effective in disrupting the game of Burns as he even managed to drop the Brazilian twice with it before eventually getting the finish.

Many observers praised head coach Trevor Wittman for Usman’s performance and Gaethje — who has been training with Usman for months now — knew what would happen as he made the following prediction after the second round.

“@USMAN84kg finishes him in the next 3 I believe.”

After Usman got the win, “The Highlight” went on to praise the welterweight champion.

“You wish you could see us spar. @USMAN84kg only guy I train with that gets stronger as the round gets higher. Also a work ethic second to none. ?

It would certainly be nice to see some recent sparring footage especially given how tough both fighters are. After all, Usman recently revealed Gaethje broke his nose before his title fight with Jorge Masvidal last year.

Hopefully, that won’t be the case if Usman vs. Masvidal 2 happens next.
