UFC Hall of Famer Don Frye was caught on video punching a fan following an argument at UFC 270.

It appears for some fighters that you never really lose your ability to throw a punch and that seems the case for Don Frye.

The former professional wrestler got into an altercation with a fan during UFC 270 and punched him in the face after claiming the man challenged him to a fight.

Frye can be seen on the video having a discussion with the man before throwing the punch and being moved away by venue security.

Don Frye’s Career

Frye entered the UFC in spectacular fashion. His first matchup in the promotion saw him defeat 410-lb Thomas Ramirez at UFC 8 in just 8 seconds, at the time this was the fastest recorded KO in the UFC.

On the same night, Frye would pick up two more victories over Sam Adkins and Gary Goodridge all in a combined three minutes and ten seconds winning him the UFC 8 tournament. Frye would continue his winning streak picking up three more victories along the way, before tasting defeat for the first time in the promotion via TKO at the hands of Mark Coleman at UFC 10.

Frye would bounce back from his loss incredibly by going on a 9-fight winning streak including a second victory over Gary Goodridge and a decision victory over Ken Shamrock. During this winning streak, Frye would retire from MMA to pursue wrestling opportunities in Japan but felt the desire to come back and returned to the sport and to Pride to take on Gilbert Yvel.

Frye would find success in multiple promotions, holding wins in the UFC, Pride, and K1. The 56-year-old retired from the sport in 2011.

Frye would be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2016 and only recently came out to reveal to fans he was considering a return in the hopes to take on Francis Ngannou.

Francis Ngannou

UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou entered UFC 270 with more than just the pressure of facing his former teammate Ciryl Gane.

Ngannou defeated Gane via unanimous decision in their heavyweight battle to begin 2022. To the surprise of almost everyone, Ngannou’s wrestling gave him the path to victory and not his trademark striking.

As Ngannou walked into the Octagon, the commentary team was quick to note that both of his knees were covered. This caused many to question whether or not the heavyweight champ entered the fight healthy.

After the fight, Ngannou told media members that he had suffered a significant right knee injury that nearly forced him to pull out of the fight.

“I saw the doctor on Tuesday to clear me and he wasn’t very optimistic about it,” Ngannou said. “But I still decided to move on… My team was by my side regardless, whatever I decided to do, that’s what they said. But the doctor said he wouldn’t recommend me because I could have irreversible damage if I got kicked on that knee. That’s why I couldn’t switch my stance.”

This explains why Ngannou was in the orthodox stance for the majority of the fight. He also appeared timid to throw punches which could’ve been the result of not having the proper torque in his lower half.

Ngannou then revealed just how exposed his knee was entering the fight with Gane.

“It was pretty bad. I had a grade three MCL (tear), I have a damaged ACL, and a damaged MPFL. That was 25 days ago.”

Ngannou was then asked if he thinks he’ll need surgery done on his compromised knee.

“Yeah, I think so,” he replied.

It’s unclear how long Ngannou will be sidelined with his injured knee. He remains amid contract negotiations with the UFC regarding a new deal and has hinted at a potential move to boxing.

For now, it appears that Ngannou will turn his attention to the health of his knee and begin the road to recovery following his UFC 270 win.

What do you think the future holds for Francis Ngannou?

Francis Ngannou’s manager, Marquel Martin was the victim of a vicious and racist text message just days before UFC 270.

Ngannou won his first heavyweight title defense over Ciryl Gane at UFC 270. The buildup featured heated back-and-forths with his former coach, Fernand Lopez, and accusations of lying and brutal past sparring sessions.

In addition to the buildup to his fight, Ngannou was dealing with a significant knee injury that nearly forced him out of the fight. He has also been in ongoing contract talks with the UFC that have allegedly gone nowhere in recent months.

But things turned from bad to worse for Ngannou and his team after Martin received a nasty text message which he shared on social media.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Ngannou was asked about the viral text message that Martin received this past weekend.

“I think someone is very pissed off. Which means we’ve been doing the right thing. I don’t have any guesses or any clue [of who it is],” Ngannou said.

Francis Ngannou Doesn’t Know Who Sent The Inflammatory Text

Speculation went rampant on social media following the text message’s posting, with some believing it could’ve come from UFC president Dana White. However, there is no evidence that is the case.

What we do know is that the text came from a 702 area code, which is in the Las Vegas, NV area. It was more than likely someone close to White who had access to management contact information and knew about the various issues the two sides have had.

White didn’t put the belt on Ngannou after he was given the decision win, and White hasn’t explained publicly why he declined to do so. As of right now, the heated relationship between Ngannou and the UFC brass doesn’t seem to show any signs of cooling off.

Do you think Francis Ngannou and the UFC will come to terms on a new deal?

Francis Ngannou, Jake Paul

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou’s manager was allegedly threatened with a lawsuit by the UFC for engaging in talks with Jake Paul‘s team.

Ngannou defeated Ciryl Gane over the weekend via a unanimous decision at UFC 270. Like Ngannou, Paul has been vocal about the issue of fighter pay and the UFC.

It’s unclear what the context of the initial reach out was, but Paul’s team allegedly contacted Ngannou’s management leading up to the fight. During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Ngannou explained what happened once the UFC found out that Paul’s team was looking to connect with him.

Francis Ngannou’s Management Was Contacted By Jake Paul’s Team

“My manager said he received an email from the UFC saying they were going to sue him,” Ngannou said. “Nakisa [Bidarian]. I don’t know him, but someone from Jake Paul’s team reached out to us. I was like ‘Is he a promoter or something?’. But it doesn’t look like they don’t want to talk to me anymore. I don’t him, I couldn’t recognize him if you put him in front of me.”

In addition to making waves in the world of boxing, Paul has also been supportive of various UFC fighters who have spoken out on the fighter pay issue. Ngannou has been one of the biggest names in the promotion to go toe-to-toe with the UFC regarding how fighters are treated financially.

Ngannou’s win over Gane was the second to last fight on his current UFC deal. However, it’s unclear if he’ll fight again later on in the year as he undergoes knee surgery and continues negotiations.

Before the fight with Gane came to fruition, Ngannou was expected to face former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones next. But negotiations never materialized as Jones and Ngannou both wanted a big paycheck.

Ngannou could be on the verge of becoming a free agent, and it’s certainly possible he may be in touch with Paul’s team in the future.
