This weekend’s anticipated flyweight pairing between division contenders, Rogerio Bontorin and Manel Kape has been removed from the UFC 275 main card in Singapore – with the former requiring hospitalization due to the effects of weight cutting.
Rogerio Bontorin, the current #8 ranked flyweight contender, is without a victory in his last four Octagon appearances, most recently suffering a January split decision defeat against Brandon Royval.
As for Kape, the former Rizin FF champion managed to land the #14 rank in the division back in December with a one-sided first round knockout win against Zhalgas Zhumagulov.
Rogerio Bontorin requires hospitalization due to the effects of weight cutting
Per an initial report from EurosportNL reporter, Marcel Dorff, Bontorin required hospitalization ahead of his scheduled weigh-in for his bout against Kape at the Singapore Indoor Arena.
“Just got told Rogerio Bontorin was transported to the hospital earlier this morning. With Bontorin vs. Kape missing on the PPV card visual during the Road to the UFC broadcast it looks like the fight is off #UFC275 tomorrow….”
As a result, UFC 275 is now-scheduled to continue with a total 11 bouts. The event is scheduled to feature a pair of undisputed championship fights, including a light heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira, and Jiri Prochazka.
Valentina Shevchenko also features in a co-headlining slot against Taila Santos for the undisputed flyweight title.
Another main card attraction comes in the form of a strawweight title-eliminator rematch between former division champions, Zhang Weili, and Joanna Jedrzejczyk – in a re-run of their March 2020 Fight of the Year.
At the time of publication, it is currently unknown which bout will take place on the main card in place of Bontorin vs. Kape – and it is also unknown if the flyweight matchup between the two will be revisited in the future.
UFC 275 has lost a bout late in the day, with the main card clash between Rogério Bontorin and Manel Kape scrapped just a day before the pay-per-view. #8-ranked flyweight Bontorin was looking to get back on track in Singapore at the expense of former Rizin champion Kape, whose two-fight win streak has seen him…
UFC 275 has lost a bout late in the day, with the main card clash between Rogério Bontorin and Manel Kape scrapped just a day before the pay-per-view.
#8-ranked flyweight Bontorin was looking to get back on track in Singapore at the expense of former Rizin champion Kape, whose two-fight win streak has seen him climb to #14 on the 125-pound ladder.
But ahead of the event’s weigh-ins, rumors began circulating that the fight may have been canceled, with the latest episode of Road To UFC displaying a four-fight main card, the absent pairing being that of the flyweights.
After reports emerged that the Brazilian had been taken to hospital early Friday morning, MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn received confirmation from a UFC official that the fight is indeed off the card, with Bontorin suffering from “weight management issues.”
Bontorin has previously missed weight once in his six-fight UFC career, tipping the scales at 137 pounds ahead of his bantamweight bout with Matt Schnell last May.
It’s since been confirmed that the welterweight clash between Andre Fialho and Jake Matthews, originally set to open the prelims, has been elevated to the main card.
With the cancelation of Bontorin vs. Kape, the UFC 275 fight card is as follows:
Glover Teixeira (C) vs. Ji?í Procházka (light heavyweight championship main event)
UFC 275 is a stacked event full of elite talent featuring two title fights and a rematch of one of the greatest five round bouts of all time. UFC 275 is a stacked event full of elite talent featuring two title fights and a rematch of one of the greatest five round bouts of all time. Glover Teixeira makes his first 205lb title defense, taking on Czech knockout artist in the main event. Valentina Shevchenko will see to defend her flyweight title yet again as she takes on surging contender Taila Santos. In the co-co main event, former champs Zhang Weili and Joanna J?drzejczyk run back the all-time great bout they both featured in two years ago.
Also featured on UFC 275 are a number of fan favorites such as Jack Della Madellana, Andre Fialho, Jake Matthews, and Brendan Allen.

Glover Teixeira vs. Jiri Prochazka
Glover Teixeira has made an entire career of constantly defying expectations, culminating in him claiming the UFC light heavyweight title at the age of 41. However, as with every fighter, there will come a time when Teixeira is unable to continue competing at the very pinnacle of his weight class, and unfortunately, Jiri Prochazka is exactly the kind of physical specimen that could make this point abundantly clear.
Prochazka is one of those individuals who is as close to unique as you can get in the fight game, both in terms of the mental and physical side of things. The surging Czech samurai is monstrously strong and fast, with unorthodox striking that saw both Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes left unconscious on the canvas.
It is worth noting that Teixeria may be able to shift the tide of this fight if he can take Prochazka down. But we will be backing ‘Denisa’ to be victorious at UFC 275, winning this fight via KO/TKO. Betway has the prop priced at 1.72.
Pick: Jiri Prochazka to win via KO/TKO.
Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Joanna J?drzejczyk
The first fight between these two elite strawweight’s was one of the best fights to have ever taken place inside the UFC octagon. Whilst it is often the case that rematches of great fights don’t live up to expectations, the style clash of Weili and Joanna just makes it appear inevitable that this will be another war for the ages.
One of the factors that made the first fight so thrilling was just how close it was. Weili Zhang ultimately left with her hand raised, but there is a very strong case to be made that Joanna deserved the nod. Since that first fight, Zhang lost back-to-back title fights with Rose Namajuans, whilst Joanna has not competed at all.
Inactivity can have disastrous consequences in MMA, but it truly is subjective to each individual fighter. It could also be argued that the physiological toll of losing two fights on the run, both in very different ways, could tale an equally detrimental psychological toll.
This fight will be incredibly close, to the point where it is near impossible to make a clear case for one fighter or the other. However, the bookies have Zhang as a decent favorite for this UFC 275 rematch, with Joanna’s underdog line placed at 2.50. This is the value play, and if you want action on this fight, this is the line to back. If you wanted even better odds, you could also take Joanna by decision, as that seems her most likely route to victory.
Pick: Joanna J?drzejczyk ML.
Jake Matthews vs. Andre Fialho
Portugal’s Andre Fialho has made a name for himself in the UFC over the past few months by being a heavy-handed knockout artist who fights extremely regularly. A short-notice UFC debut saw him come up against the dynamic Michel Pereira, and whilst Fialho did come up short, he took Pereira to the judge’s scorecards in what was an extremely entertaining bout. Since then, Fialho knocked out both Miguel Baeza and Cameron VanCamp.
However, the big difference between these past three opponents of Fialho, and his upcoming opponent at UFC 275, Jake Matthews, is the wrestling. Fialho’s boxing-heavy style relies on his opponents being willing to exchange with him. Matthews will be perfectly happy to grind out the majority of a round in half guard, racking up points and frustrating Fialho.
Matthews opened as a surprisingly heavy underdog, but the line is getting closer at fight night approaches. At the time of writing, his ML is priced at 2.20 on Betway.
Pick: Jake Matthews ML.

J?drzejczyk will rematch Zhang Weili at the pay-per-view (PPV) from Singapore, a rematch from their all-time classic two years ago. It was the last fight J?drzejczyk participated in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to The New York Post, J?drzejczyk explained why she believes she deserves a title shot with a potential win over Weili this weekend. To put it simply: It’s because she’s the best.
“You know, some people [are] having [a] problem with this. They can’t understand why I will be [the] next challenger fighting for the strawweight belt. But people don’t get it. They’re like, “Oh, she hasn’t fought for a while” but some people don’t know that I’m simply the best.
“I don’t need to prove it one more time that I’m one of the greatest.”
Joanna J?drzejczyk is currently 2-2 in her last four fights, her last bout resulting in a split-decision loss to Weili. The former 115-pound queen has only lost to three women in her mixed martial arts (MMA) career: Rose Namajunas (twice), Valentina Shevchenko, and Weili.
Now, she’s looking to avenge her latest loss in Singapore against the former Chinese champion. Weili is currently in the midst of the first road bump of her career.
She is on a two-fight losing streak at the moment, those being the first and only losses of her MMA career. Both losses came at the hands of Rose Namajunas, who defeated Weili for the title, and once again in their rematch.
Both women desperately need what would be a big win this weekend to re-enter the title picture.

Former UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili is prepared to showcase the grappling aspect of her repertoire after working with a wrestling great.
Zhang will face another former UFC champion, Joanna J?drzejczyk in a featured bout on the UFC 275 main card this weekend. Both fighters are looking to earn another title shot in what’s been deemed by UFC President Dana White as a No. 1 contender bout.
Zhang showed off impressive wrestling in her last fight against Rose Namajunas at UFC 268, despite losing via a split decision. She’s been working with former UFC two-weight champion and former Olympic wrestler Henry Cejudo in preparation for her matchup with J?drzejczyk.
During her UFC 275 pre-fight media day, Zhang was asked if her wrestling training will impact the product of her upcoming performance.
“Definitely I will use some wrestling in this match,” Zhang said. “I learned a lot from Henry, and if I don’t use it, that would be a waste.”
Zhang has been training with Deiveson Figueiredo, Cejudo, and others at Fight Ready MMA in Arizona. While she’s been known for her impressive stand-up, her wrestling has made huge leaps and makes her a more dangerous puzzle to solve.
Zhang will look to earn the next strawweight title against the champion, Carla Esparza, with a victory. She’ll look to make Cejudo proud with her newfound wrestling skills being a major component of her performance.
Do you think Zhang Weili will give Joanna J?drzejczyk issues with her wrestling?
