Israel Adesanya

UFC middldeweight champion, Israel Adesanya has claimed that Sean Strickland should have listened to advice he gave to him prior to his UFC 276 first round knockout loss against division contender, Alex Pereira at the beginning of this month.

Undisputed middleweight champion, Adesanya headlined this month’s UFC 276 card against the #2 ranked contender, Jared Cannonier – defeating the Texan over the course of five rounds in a one-sided, forgettable unanimous decision victory.

However, earlier on the main card, Strickland, who entered the event as the #4 ranked contender, suffered a one-sided first round knockout loss to Brazilian kickboxing phenom, Pereira – who is now widely expected to challenge past-opponent, Adesanya later this year in a title outing.

Israel Adesanya hints that Sean Strickland likely overlooked opponent, Alex Pereira

Reflecting on the event, including his own performance, Adesanya insists Strickland should likely have taken advice from him at their pre-fight press conference, and focus his attention on Pereira – rather than a title fight with himself.

“He (Sean Strickland) should’ve listened to me,” Israel Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “He should’ve listened to me when I told him, ‘Just focus on the guy you have in front of you, not me.’ He was trying to be like that idiot in the back of the class. I hated having to address that idiot. Like, I’m trying to f*cking work and the guy I’m focused on is next to me or down the line and this idiot, this dumbass in the back of the class just disrupting.”

“I was like, ‘Yo, it’s not me you need to worry about. Focus on this guy (Alex Pereira),’” Israel Adesanya explained. “He thought he had the opportunity, and I’m like, ‘OK, bet,’ If he actually did what he had to do, me and him would be fighting next.”

Adesanya further claimed that Strickland fought with his ego with his decision to stand in front of the former two-weight GLORY Kickboxing champion.

“Don’t fight with your ego, he fought with his ego,” Israel Adesanya said. “He said, ‘I thought I was doing pretty well.’ You’re not doing pretty well. … I’ve seen this before, I’ve done this before. You can see it coming. … I was like, ‘change up,’ but Pereira didn’t need a change-up. He just threw a left hook, really, really simple. Boom dropped him, right hand, finished him.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Israel Adesanya

Undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has reflected on his UFC 276 performance against recent title chaser, Jared Cannonier, admitting that his display was something he was “happy” with – denying claims from spectators who questioned his activity against the Texan.

Adesanya, who headlined UFC 276 earlier this month during International Fight Week, managed to successfully defend his undisputed middleweight crown, handing Cannonier a unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45) loss.

However, immediately following the fight, Adesanya was widely criticized for his performance against Cannonier, where the two rarely engaged for lengthy exchanges, with actor and Hollywood lead, Chris Pratt infamously first taking umbrage with Adesanya’s display, before eventually refuting his comments.

Breaking down his own performance against challenger, Cannonier, City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya insisted that he was “happy” with his display.

“I rewatched it two days after the fight and I watched it once, that’s all I needed for now,” Israel Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “I wasn’t ecstatic about the performance, but I was happy with it. It wasn’t what people were trying to make it out to be…”

“I didn’t really take my foot off the gas too much,” Israel Adesanya explained. “The only time I wasn’t able to was when he (Jared Cannonier) held me against the fence. I broke away when I needed to and kept on fighting, as soon as I broke away. I’d normally just keep on him straight away because I know he’s tired from holding me, because I could feel his squeeze just holding me… When he weakened, I got away and put pressure on him straight away, trying to create openings. I just wasn’t able to create the ones that I needed at the time. But yeah, these things happen.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Israel Adesanya is expected to fight Alex Pereira before the end of the year

Securing his sixth successful defense of the middleweight crown, Adesanya is now expected to draw former kickboxing opponent, Alex Pereira before the end of this year in his next title showdown – with the Brazilian stopping Sean Strickland with a brutal first round KO also at UFC 276.

Full Send MMA Reporter Reveals Why Nate Diaz Slapped Him At UFC 276: ‘I Probably Deserved It’

Nate Diaz

Full Send MMA reporter and Nelk Boys content creator, OG Shawny Mack has revealed the reason why former UFC lightweight title challenger, Nate Diaz slapped him backstage during an interview at UFC 276 earlier this month – claiming that he likely deserved the wrath he received from the veteran.

Diaz, a one-time title challenger at the lightweight limit with the organization, attended UFC 276 last weekend ahead of a middleweight title headliner between Israel Adesanya, and Jared Cannonier.

Nate Diaz has yet to land his final contracted fight with the UFC

Engaging in an interview backstage with the aforenoted, Mack, footage emerged of Diaz fielding a question from the Nelk Boys reporters, before pulling him close, knocking his microphone away, and slapping his hat from his head.

Revealing the reason why he likely found himself on the recent end of a patented ‘Stockton slap’ from Diaz, Mack explained how his decision to mock Diaz’s teammate, Nick Maximov following a recent loss to Andre Petroski, was likely the reason for the altercation.

“What the f*ck am I going to do, fight Nate Diaz?” Mack told The Nelk Boys during a podcast appearance on YouTube. “There was also a video TMZ posted, and they asked Nate Diaz when he’s going to fight Khamzat (Chimaev). He said, ‘F*ck that, fight my boy over here,’ and it just awkwardly pans the camera to Nick Maximov like he wasn’t expecting it.”

“And he’s like, ‘Yeah, man’.” He said. “I made a meme about it, and I took the song that goes, ‘Oh no, oh no.’ So when the camera pans to Nick Maximov, I played that. And I zoomed in on Nick Maximov’s face – that was the first one. He got tapped out in the first round so I screenshotted a picture of Nick Maximov obviously slept in the cage, and I put the Nate Diaz quote – ‘Khamzat Chimaev, come fight my boy, as he’s sitting there (obviously beaten).”

Mack revealed that he likely did deserve to find himself on the receiving end of a slap from Diaz.

“So, you know what? F*cking right,” Mack said. “I probably deserved it.” (Transcribed by Insider)
