Israel Adesanya

After Israel Adesanya left fans unhappy with his performance at UFC 276 this past weekend, the current middleweight champion has been under criticism from numerous notable figures within the industry. Former two-division champion Henry Cejudo was the latest to blast the champ.

Cejudo slammed the champion, insisting the organization stop promoting the middleweight king, Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya is just several days out from a convincing victory over challenger Jared Cannonier at UFC 276. The scorecards read (49-45, 49-46, 50-45), with Adesanya successfully making his fifth defense of his middleweight strap.

There were mixed emotions between fans, fighters, and analysts on the main event title fight between Adesanya and Cannoneir, with some appreciating the work the champion displayed and others labeling the fight ‘boring’, ‘lackluster’, and ‘dead’.

Israel Adesanya Addresses Critics

At the post-fight press conference, Adesanya addressed the public reaction to the fight:

At the post-fight interviews, he stated: “F**k them. They’ve been here since 3 PM. They’re all drunk. They don’t know what real fighting is or real finesse. The greats, they all get to this point. I’ve seen it when I was just a fan. I’m still a fan.”

On ‘The Triple C & Schmo Show’, Cejudo shared his thoughts about Adesanya and his last fight saying (h/t Sportskeeda):

“It’s crazy when you come out to freaking, to The Undertaker (theme song), and you didn’t put on a performance, man, on Saturday night. It was lame, dude. You gotta start giving, main events are special, dude. If he’s not performing, UFC, stop pushing this dude. He’s a decision-maker.”

Cejudo also stated he thought the only time Adesanya has looked how he talked was his first meeting with Robert Whittaker in 2019, which saw him attain UFC gold for the first time. Cejudo added:

“He hypes a lot, and he doesn’t deliver. He talks a lot, and he doesn’t deliver. It’s been like that with him for a minute now. And I think if you’re gonna call people out and do all this other stuff, finish them. Put a beating on people. Be spectacular. People look forward more to his entrance than his actual fight, and that’s a problem because what you do wanna be good at is when you fight.”

After initially sharing some frank thoughts on a lacklustre UFC 276 performance from promotional middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya at last weekend’s T-Mobile Arena event, Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic Park front man, Chris Pratt has retracted his comments, criticizing the 185lbs champion.

Pratt, who attended UFC 276 during International Fight Week – was pictured seated Octagon-side from the opening fight of the night; a bantamweight clash between Jessica-Rose Clark, and Julija Stoliarenko.

Sharing his thoughts on defending middleweight champion, Adesanya’s rather one-sided, yet uneventful unanimous decision win over challenger, Jared Cannonier, Pratt claimed that he was less than impressed with the Nigerian-Kiwi’s performance, urging him to bank on pre-fight talk of a finish

“I’m gonna say this as humbly as I can, as a guy who never stepped in the Octagon, I don’t know this game, I’m just an actor,” Chris Pratt said. “But I’m not a fan, man. I’m not a fan of coming out, like, all that talk and then just kind of putting on a little bit of a pitter-patter.”

“I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Cash on that.’” Chris Pratt explained. “You’ve got to cash that promise of being so badass. If I bet with my money, I would bet (Israel) Adesanya would’ve done something like that. But I was hoping to see (Jared) Cannonier make it.”

Responding to Pratt’s comments, Adesanya shared footage of the actor, claiming that he was “the man”, and that Pratt was “just some fan”.

“Good morning,” Israel Adesanya tweeted. (Smiling face emoji) I’m the man. You’re just some fan.”

Reacting to Adesanya’s comments with a reply, Pratt agreed that he himself would take umbrage with criticism of his own work, labelling himself a “hypocrite”.

“You’re right,” Chris Pratt tweeted in response to Israel Adesanya. “I’m sorry brutha. It bugs me when people criticize my work – having never themselves risked anything. It makes me a hypocrite to do exactly that to you. My bad. Keep on keeping on champ. (praying hands emoji) (love heart emoji)”

Israel Adesanya is expected to fight Alex Pereira in a middleweight title fight next

Successfully defending his undisputed middleweight crown for the fifth consecutive occasion in his win against Cannonier, Adesanya is widely expected to face the #6 ranked, Alex Pereira next.

Ian Garry

Through three appearances in the Octagon, Ian Garry has thus far lived up to his nickname, ‘The Future’.

MMA’s latest Irish sensation improved to 10-0 overall with a masterful performance against Gabe Green at UFC 276 on Saturday. Following the win, fellow Irishman and UFC megastar Conor McGregor addressed Garry in a tweet and expressed his enthusiasm for the young striker.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Ian Garry discussed McGregor’s comments and how much it means to be recognized by the global icon.

“It’s obviously phenomenal. Like, no matter what he says about me or anything to do with my career it’s always going to be amazing. I mean, I got a f*cking tattoo on my arm because of the guy. That symbolized the whole weekend”

Garry quickly showed the tattoo on his arm of a daisy which is a reference to Conor McGregor calling Garry a ‘little f*cking daisy’ in a November 2021 tweet.

“A little f*cking daisy, yes which basically means your a little star. That just summed up the MSG (Madison Square Garden) moment, week, environment. Everything about it. It was just the perfect way to kind of sum it all up was that ‘little f*cking daisy.’ That’s why I got a tattoo.

“To have the guy who’s done more than anyone for the sport. He has changed MMA. He’s brought more eyes to the sport. He holds all the records in regards to pay-per-views and just making weigh-ins. Having 15,000 people there just to watch a guy stand on a scale is ridiculous.”

Ian Garry Agrees With McGregor’s Assessment That He Will Be a Future Champion

Ian Garry agreed with McGregor’s assessment that he will be a UFC champion, saying that is it “inevitable.”

“To have him say something about that in regards to me is phenomenal. And he’s not wrong. I am going to be a champion and it is inevitable. I know that and the fact that even he seen that now, it’s awesome. It means everybody else is seeing it to. And I know how good I am. I know my potential is and I’m gonna get there. I promise everyone, it’s going to happen.“

Ian Garry also expressed a desire to perform on the same card with McGregor. It would be a dream come true for ‘The Future’ to compete alongside the fighter largely responsible for his own inspiration to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.

“I can’t wait for me and him to get on a card together whenever he’s back. That will be massive for the Irish as well. That would be massive for me. It would be a dream come true to share a card with the guy who inspired me to do this.”
