Former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya maintains he has never lost any sort of motivation ahead of his massive title rematch with foe, Alex Pereira at UFC 287, claiming he needs to beat the Brazilian in their much-anticipated showdown.

Adesanya, who headlines UFC 287 against Pereira from the Miami-Dade Arena on April 8., will attempt to avenge a pair of kickboxing losses to the Brazilian, as well as November loss to Pereira – where he dropped the undisputed middleweight title courtesy of a rallying fifth round knockout.

The Nigerian-Kiwi had built up a considerable lead on all three judge’s scorecards during the Madison Square Garden headliner, however, suffered a late, fifth round TKO loss to Pereira, who struck UFC gold himself inside just four fights undet the promotion’s banner.

Slated to meet with the City Kickboxing staple in an immediate championship rematch, Pereira was linked also with a light heavyweight excursion against recently minted gold holder, Jamahal Hill, however, will first draw fierce rival, Adesanya in April instead.

Israel Adesanya insists he “needs” to defeat Alex Pereira in their UFC 287 grudge match

Attending UFC 284 in Perth, Australia over the weekend, Adesanya, who enters April’s grudge match as a title challenger in the organization for the first time since 2019, admits he needs to defeat the Sao Paulo phenom, in order to settle their longstanding score.

I’ve never not been motivated to fight this guy (Alex Pereira), but for this one,” Israel Adesanya told assembled media during his media availability at UFC 284. “I’ve put the pressure on myself. I have to beat this guy… they can say whatever they want.

It’s 1-0 or 3-0, I don’t keep score, I settle them and I just need one and I’m going to get it done,” Israel Adesanya continued. (H/T Sportskeeda

Adesanya saw his perfect middleweight run as a mixed martial arts halted in his loss to Pereira, having landed victories over Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker, and Jared Cannonier before his November blemish.

Undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Jamahal Hill has warned current middleweight kingpin, Alex Pereira from a much-rumored move to 205lbs in pursuit of a second Octagon title – claiming the Brazilian still has his hands firmly full ahead of his April title rematch with Israel Adesanya.

Hill, who minted himself as the undisputed light heavyweight champion back in January of this year, became the first Dana White’s Contender Series product to strike UFC gold – taking out former champion, Glover Teixeira in Brazil in a unanimous decision victory.

As for Pereira, the teammate of the now-retired, Teixeira, is slated to headline UFC 287 on April 8. from the Miami Dade Center in Miami, Florida in an immediate championship rematch against Adesanya.

Landing undisputed middleweight gold back in November at Madison Square Garden, Sao Paulo striker, Pereira stopped Adesanya with a stunning fifth round standing TKO triumph, handing the latter his first loss at the middleweight limit in professional mixed martial arts.

Jamahal Hill warns Alex Pereira from light heavyweight title pursuit

Initially linked with an effort at avenging training partner, Teixeira’s homecoming loss to Hill following UFC 283 – Pereira has now been continually warned from making the light heavyweight division move, with Hill claiming he still has a tough opponent awaiting him in the form of Adesanya.

“I think he [Alex Pereira] should really focus on Izzy (Israel Adesanya) because he was getting his ass whooped for a good majority of that fight last time before he won,” Jamahal Hill told The Schmo during a recent interview.

“He had some things happen for him [Israel Adesanya], like the leg check at the end,” Jamahal Hill. “I think if Izzy just throws hands – just box him; just be quick and outbox him – he’ll win.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Undefeated in his last four Octagon outings, en route to his light heavyweight title victory, Hill defeated the trio of Jimmy Crute, Johnny Walker, and Thiago Santos with strikes – ahead of his Rio de Janeiro coronation against Teixeira.

Miami will host UFC 287 which features the Middleweight title rematch and the return of Jorge Masvidal.

Previously, the UFC announced the card without a destination attached to it. Instead, the announcement was made with the reveal of the main and the co-main event.

UFC 287 will feature the highly anticipated rematch between Alex Pereira and the former champion, Israel Adesanya. The two famously fought at UFC 281 in November of last year, where, after being down on the cards, Pereira rallied to pull off a massive comeback against his rival and stop Adesanya late in the 5th round to become the champion.

Since then, the rematch between these rivals has been a constant topic of discussion, and now finally, not only is the date set, but also a location as the UFC announced that the event will take place at the Miami-Dade Arena in Miami, Florida on April 8th.

Miami’s own Jorge Masvidal is to have a homecoming at UFC 287

Along with the Middleweight title rematch, UFC 287 will also be co-headlined by top Welterweights, Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns. Both Masvidal and Burns call Florida home, but Masvidal was born and raised in Miami, so this will be a homecoming for the BMF champion.

Masvidal hasn’t fought since March of last year when he lost to Colby Covington and afterward had serious legal trouble after he allegedly attacked Covington outside of a restaurant. Meanwhile, Burns had one of the best performances of his career at UFC 283, where he submitted Neil Magny in the very first round.

This event will mark the company’s first return to Miami since UFC 42 in April 2003. That event was headlined by Matt Hughes defending his Welterweight title against Sean Sherk. And also the debut of MMA legend, Rich Franklin. So, it’s safe to say that it’s been a long time coming for Miami fans.

Ahead of his undisputed UFC middleweight championship rematch against arch-rival, Israel Adesanya at UFC 287 on April 8. – Brazilian knockout ace, Alex Pereira has issued a chilling message to the Nigerian-Kiwi – claiming he’s “ready to kill” ahead of his Octagon return.

Headlining UFC 281 back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, Sao Paulo striking phenom, Alex Pereira managed to clinch the undisputed middleweight crown with a stunning, fifth round rallying TKO win over City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya.

The victory came as Pereira’s seventh in professional mixed martial arts, and third in combat sports over Adesanya alone, following a prior dubious decision win, and a knockout win in the pair’s GLORY Kickboxing re-run in his native Brazil.

Booked to rematch Adesanya at UFC 278 on April 8. – with the pay-per-view event expected to take place in Miami, Florida, although a location has yet to be determined by the organization at the time of publication.

Prior to his win over Adesanya at MSG last November, Alex Pereira, a former middleweight and light heavyweight titleholder under the aforenoted, GLORY Kickboxing banner – stopped Andreas Michailidis in his Octagon debut, before landing a decision win over Bruno Silva, a knockout success against division contender, Sean Strickland.

Alex Pereira issues a chilling message to Israel Adesanya ahead of UFC 287

Previewing their April rematch, Pereira posted a picture on his official Instagram of himself standing opposite Adesanya at UFC 281 in November last, with the caption “ready to kill” ahead of the duo’s rematch.

Seeing his reign at middleweight champion halted in his knockout defeat to Pereira, Adesanya had racked up five successful title defenses over division competition since assuming the undisputed throne in 2019.

Last year alone, Adesanya defeated Jared Cannonier and Robert Whittaker, following a prior win over two-time foe, Marvin Vettori, a knockout of Paulo Costa, and a forgettable decision success over promotional alum, Yoel Romero.
