Former undisputed featherweight champion, Max Holloway expects a “crazy” fight between former interim lightweight championship holders, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 later this week – and has stunningly offered to fight the victor of the BMF title rematch in the future.

Holloway, the current number one ranked featherweight contender, is slated to make his return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC Fight Night Singapore in August, taking on former two-time title challenger, Chan Sung Jung

The Hawaiian has already featured earlier this year, landing a unanimous decision victory over the streaking, Arnold Allen at UFC Fight Night Kansas City back in April – retaining his status as the number one ranked featherweight contender.

Max Holloway welcomes a future BMF title outing at the lightweight limit

And ahead of this weekend’s eye-catching lightweight rematch between Poirier and Gaethje, Holloway, who had a brief cameo at the lightweight limit of 155lbs in the past, admitted he would consider fighting the victor of that BMF title bout off the back of his clash with ‘The Korean Zombie’.

“It’s for the BMF belt, if you make any fight for the BMF belt, this the fight,” Max Holloway said ahead of UFC 291 on his YouTube channel. “I wanna throw my name out in that hat sooner or later now that the BMF belt is around 155 (pounds). That would be cool. I would love to fight either of these guys just for fan purposes. This is a fan fight. This is a huge fight, bro – a cool fight.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Having twice previously faced off with former interim lightweight champion, Poirier, Holloway first suffered a triangle armbar submission loss in his 2012 UFC debut, before rematching the Lafayette native in an interim lightweight title fight loss back in 2019.

And following his standout win over English contender, Allen, Max Holloway voiced his interest in a long-awaited stay at the lightweight limit before his booking against veteran fan-favorite, Jung in Kallang next month.

Dustin Poirier dismisses talk of retirement you ain't getting rid of me UFC 291

Former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier has insisted that a potential retirement from active competition following his UFC 291 return this weekend is far from his mind, claiming he will continue to fight and trade leather in mixed martial arts as long as his “want” to compete remains.

Poirier, the current number two ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined from the Octagon since featuring on the main card of UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden, submitting Michael Chandler with a third round rear-naked choke.

Returning in the headliner of UFC 291 this weekend in Salt Lake City, Poirier takes on fellow former interim gold holder, Justin Gaethje as the pair rematch each other for the symbolic BMF championship.

Holding bragging rights over the Arizona native ahead of their rematch in Utah, Dustin Poirier managed to turn in a fourth round standing TKO win over Gaethje back in 2018 in the main event of UFC Fight Night Phoenix.

Dustin Poirier shuts down suggestion of retirement ahead of UFC 291

However, ahead of their BMF title clash at UFC 291, Poirier’s training partner, Renato Moicano, claimed that he believed the Lafayette native, or Gaethje, would likely retire from mixed martial arts with a loss in their rematch bout.

According to Poirier, however, the storied former interim champion, who firmly has sights set on a future lightweight title fight against current kingpin, Islam Makahchev, insisted he has no intention to retire from combat sports, currently.

“I’m not really putting a lot of energy into it,” Dustin Poirier told the New York Post Sports. “Even here, on Saturday night. I’m not doing this because I have to. I’m doing this because I want to. So, as long as the ‘want’ is still there, you guys ain’t getting rid of me.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Justin Gaethje promises car crash against Dustin Poirier at UFC 291

Ahead of his upcoming BMF title rematch with fellow former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier at UFC 291 this weekend, fan-favorite veteran, Justin Gaethje has promised a “car crash for the ages” in their Salt Lake City rematch.

Gaethje, who makes his second Octagon walk of the year this weekend in Utah, looks to avenge a 2018 knockout loss to Poirier, most recently landing a close, majority decision win over Rafael Fiziev in the pair’s UFC 286 co-headliner back in March in London.

As for Poirier, the current number two ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined since he featured on he main card of UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden, defeating common-opponent, Michael Chandler in a third round rear-naked choke victory.

And this weekend in Utah, the pair draw each other for the second time in their Octagon tenure, attempting to mint themselves as just the second symbolic BMF championship holder in the history of the UFC, following Jorge Masvidal – who will be in attendance to strap the title around the eventual winner at UFC 291.

Justin Gaethje expects “car crash” clash with Dustin Poirier at UFC 291

According to Gaethje, who claimed ahead of his re-run with Poirier, that he has multiple routes to success against the Lafayette striker, a car crash is guaranteed in this weekend’s lightweight rematch.

“This is entertainment,” Justin Gaethje said on the UFC 291 Countdown show. “This is an entertainment business and that is the fight you want to watch. This is a car crash for the ages.”

“I’m going to go in there and play a 50-50 car crash match and one of us got to go,” Justin Gaethje continued.

Along with Gaethje’s long-awaited rematch with Poirier, UFC 291 also features a massive light heavyweight title-eliminator between former champion, Jan Blachowicz, and the returning former middleweight titleholder, Alex Pereira

Jan Blachowicz plans to use Polish magic against Alex Pereira in UFC 291 fight

Former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz remains confident of landing himself a championship challenge off the back of his UFC 291 clash with Alex Pereira this weekend, claiming he will use “Polish magic” to defeat the Brazilian.

Blachowicz, the current number three ranked light heavyweight contender, has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 282 back in December of last year against Russian challenger, Magomed Ankalaev, battling to a split draw in the pair’s vacant title showdown.

As for Pereira, the Sao Paulo knockout artist will make his light heavyweight divisional bow over the weekend at UFC 291 in Utah, returning for the first time since dropping the middleweight title against common-foe, Israel Adesanya back in April in a second round KO defeat.

Jan Blachowicz plots title fight with UFC 291 win over Alex Pereira

Expecting to earn a championship clash against former division gold holder, Jiri Prochazka should he emerge with a win over ex-champion, Pereira this weekend in Salt Lake City, Blachowicz revealed a rather peculiar gameplan to halt the Brazilian’s passage.

“Yes, I use Polish magic,” Jan Blachowicz during an interview with New York Post Sports. “No, I’m using my magic, but only before my own fight. I don’t use [it] when somebody [else] fights. I’m gonna use [it] against (Alex) Pereira, not to anybody else.”

“After this fight, me or Alex – I believe that’s gonna be m3e – we’re gonna have [a] title shot,” Jan Blachowicz explained. “My next fight after Pereira will be, I think, Jiri Prochazka. So for me, nothing changed; it’s just this. For now, I focus only on Alex. I don’t think about what’s gonna happen later. (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)

Winning vacant light heavyweight gold back in 2020, Blachowicz landed a thunderous second round knockout win over Dominick Reyes, before successfully defending the title against then-middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya the following year in a decision victory.

Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje expected to retire after UFC 291 BMF title fight

A training partner of former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, has claimed that the loser of the upcoming BMF title bout between the Lafayette native and fan-favorite veteran, Justin Gaethje, will likelty hang up their gloves at UFC 291 later this month.

Headlining the promotion’s return to Salt Lake City, Utah, Dustin Poirier looks to land his second career win over fellow former interim champion, Gaethje, with the two initially sharing the Octagon back in 2018.

Dustin Poirier first defeated Justin Gaethje back in 2018 on enemy territory

Turning in a fourth round standing TKO win over Gaethje, Poirier would then landed interim lightweight gold in a rematch unanimous decision win over former featherweight champion.

And in both men’s pursuit of an undisputed lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev, or a title rematch with Charles Oliveira following their upcoming UFC 294 rematch, Poirier or Gaethje could likely retire from mixed martial arts with a loss in Utah, according to American Top Team trainee, Renato Moicano.

“My hot take on this fight, both [Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje] athletes are very accomplished, they don’t have many more fights on their belts anymore,” Renato Moicano said on his YouTube channel. “I think the loser of this fight will retire.”

Both riding wins in their flagship headliner at the end of this month, Poirier rebounded to the winner’s enclosure at UFC 281 back in November, submitting common-foe, Michael Chandler with a third round rear-naked choke at Madison Square Garden.

Welcoming the possibility of a grudge match with former training partner, Poirier in the future, Colby Covington, who is expected to make his Octagon comeback before the close of the year, claimed the former rejected the chance to fight him.

“From my side, I’ve been ready since day one,” Colby Covington told Submission Radio during a recent interview. “Since the Jorge (Masvidal) fight, I’ve accepted every fight that’s been offered my way. First it was Dustin (Poirier). They (the UFC) wanted to make that fight. They saw the potential and a big fight there and Dustin’s a p*ssy. He’s scared.
