Alex Pereira weighs 230lbs ahead of UFC 291 return light heavyweight debut he's lean

Former light heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira has claimed that his training partner and compatriot, former middleweight titleholder, Alex Pereira is currently weighing in the region of 230lbs – ahead of his divisional debut at 205lbs at UFC 291 in July, taking on soon-to-be common-foe, Jan Blachowicz.

Pereira, a former undisputed middleweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined since he took main event honors at UFC 287 back in April of this year, suffering his first Octagon defeat in a second round KO loss to two-time champion, Israel Adesanya.

Slated to make his light heavyweight divisional bow at UFC 291 at the end of July in Salt Lake City, Utah – Pereira will take on former undisputed champion, Blachowicz in an expected title-eliminator at the Delta Center.

Alex Pereira faces 25 pound weight cut ahead of UFC 291 return

And with much fervour surrounding his light heavyweight bow with the Pole at UFC 291 at the end of this month, Pereira reportedly weighs a whopping 230lbs ahead of his debut in the weight class.

“I like him (Alex Pereira) going to light heavyweight,” Glover Teixeira said during his appearance at the UFC Fight Pass Invitaitonal 4 of Alex Pereira’s divisional climb. “When he said he was going to light heavyweight, I was like, ‘I love it’, because I don’t want to see him cutting that much weight. You don’t know how much that guy cuts. He’s 230 pounds right now and he’s lean.”

“He’s probably like eight percent body fat,” Teixeira explained. “For him to drop to 185 [pounds] is crazy – crazy, man. I cut weight. I don’t cut that much, but I know how hard it is and as you get older, it gets harder and harder. That eventually can be bad for your health, and I don’t want him to be in that position, so I’m glad.’ (H/T MMA Junkie)

4-1 throughout his five fight Octagon tenure, Pereira landed in the UFC with a knockout win over Andreas Michailidis, and then a decision victory over compatriot, Bruno Silva – before stopping both Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya with knockout triumphs – the latter in an undisputed middleweight title fight.

Dan Hooker mocks BMF title return I'd put it under the bed or something

Booked to make his own Octagon return at UFC 290 next weekend during International Fight Week, lightweight contender, Dan Hooker has scoffed at the return of the symbolic BMF championship atop a UFC 291 card next month – revealing he would be less than proud to hold the symbolic belt.

Hooker, a staple of City Kickboxing, has been sidelined since he featured at UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden, snapping a two-fight losing skid to both lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, and Arnold Allen – with a third round body kick TKO win over Peruvian upstart, Claudio Puelles.

And booked to return at UFC 285 earlier this year in March, Hooker was forced from an eye-catching clash with fellow contender, Jalin Turner, citing a hand injury – subsequently replaced by Polish contender, Mateusz Gamrot.

Dan Hooker mocks the return of a symbolic BMF championship

Booked to meet Turner next weekend in a rescheduled fight at UFC 290, Hooker has shared his thoughts on the end-of-month rematch between former interim champions, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 – mocking the inclusion of a symbolic BMF belt to boot.

“That’s why it’s a little bit of a silly fight, you know what I mean?” Dan Hooker said during an appearance on Freestylebender. “We’re prizefighters at the end of the day. Nah. What does it actually mean though?”

“Of course, I’d take it because there’s money that comes with it, which is the main objective of doing it,” Dan Hooker explained. “But having a BMF title and hanging that on my wall, and being proud of that is like not the same as a world title. I’d probably it under the bed or something like that.”

A fan-favorite striker under the banner of the UFC, Kiwi native, Hooker has landed notable victories over the likes of Ross Pearson, Jim Miller, Gilbert Burns, James Vick, Al Iaquinta, and Paul Felder to name a few.

Kevin Holland offers to fight Jack Della Maddelena at UFC 290, fight Michael Chiesa 3 weeks later

With the highly-touted, Sean Brady forced from a scheduled UFC 290 return next weekend during International Fight Week against the surging, Jack Della Maddalena, Californian striker, Kevin Holland has offered to fight the Australian on a weeks’ notice – before returning to fight his originally-scheduled foe, Michael Chiesa at UFC 291 at the end of July.

Holland, who snapped a two-fight losing skid to Khamzat Chimaev and former two-time welterweight title chaser, Stephen Thompson, managed to stop Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC 287 earlier this year, defeating the Argentine veteran with a bizarre third round knockout.

And slated to make his return to the Octagon at UFC 291 at the end of July in Salt Lake City, Utah, Holland takes on the returning Ultimate Fighter alum, Chiesa in a pay-per-view clash.

Kevin Holland makes a stunning offer to fight at both UFC 290 and UFC 291

However, with the aforenoted, Della Maddalena now without an opponent for UFC 290 next week during International Fight Week, due to an injury suffered by the aforenoted, Brady – Holland has stunningly offered to fill-in, and then fight Chiesa at the end of next month.

“Kevin Holland offers a 175 pound catchweight fight with Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 290 WHILE keeping his fight with Michael Chiesa at UFC 291,” ESPN MMA tweeted.”

14-2 as a professional, the highly-touted, Maddelena has landed three notable wins most recently, defeating the trio of Ramzan Emeev, Danny Roberts, as well as locking up a first round submission win over Randy Brown.

Since his return to the welterweight limit, Holland has racked up three wins and two losses – defeating veteran duo Alex Oliveira and Tim Means with knockout and submission wins, respectively, to go with his UFC 287 knockout of Ponzinibbio.

Jamahal Hill picked to beat Alex Pereira it a matchup thing though UFC

Expected to attempt his first defense of the undisputed light heavyweight title before the close of the year, Jamahal Hill has been picked to likely hand former UFC middleweight champion, Alex Pereira a loss in a potential future championship showdown.

Hill, the first product of Dana White’s Contender Series to strike gold under the banner of the UFC, managed to do so back in January at UFC 283 in Brazil, defeating former champion and Alex Pereira’s compatriot, Glover Teixeira in the pair’s vacant title fight.

Expected to return to the Octagon – potentially in September of October of this year, Illinois native, Hill has been tipped to fight former division champion, Jiri Prochazka in his first title defense – with the Czech Republic native vacating his title back in December of last year after suffering a catastrophic shoulder injury.

Jamahal Hill tipped to defeat Alex Pereira in future title fight

And while the surging champion is already preoccupied with Prochazka, he has been picked to solidly defeat former champion, Pereira – if they ever share the Octagon.

“I think Jamahal Hill beats him (Alex Pereira) too,” Anthony Smith told Ariel Helwani on The MMa Hour. “It’s a matchup thing, though. It’s a matchup thing. There’s a lot of guys at light heavyweight that he’ll beat and could look really great doing it. Jan Blachowicz is tough.”

For now, however, Pereira is slated to make a light heavyweight division debut at UFC 291 in July, taking on former division champion, Jan Blachowicz, and according to Smith, the Brazilian could also struggle with him – before any title fight.

“Again, we’re talking about leg kicks here – Jan Blachowicz might be the best kick defender in the entire UFC, and I’ve been saying that for a long time,” Smith explained. “But, if you go back and even watch the (Israel) Adesnaya fight, it all starts with the leg kicks.”

Alexander Volkanovski offers to fight Dustin Poirier Justin Gaethje for BMF title after UFC 290

Undisputed featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski has claimed that he is open to the possibility of fighting for a symbolic BMF championship in the future if a lightweight title fight with Islam Makhachev alludes him – particularly against either Dustin Poirier or Justin Gaethje.

Volkanovski, the current featherweight champion, challenged for undisputed lightweight gold back in Feburary at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia – suffering a unanimous decision loss to Makhachev in his first promotional loss.

Slated to return to the Octagon next month during International Fight Week – Volkanovski is set to top UFC 290 in Las Vegas, Nevada, attempting to unify the featherweight titles with interim gold holder, Yair Rodríguez.

And later that month, former interim lightweight champions, Poirier and Gaethje as slated to rematch at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Utah – taking headlining honors with symbolic BMF spoils on the line to boot.

Alexander Volkanovski offers to fight for BMF title spoils

And claiming that if his pursuit of a lightweight rematch with Makhachev proves fruitless for the time being, Volkanovski has offered to fight either Poirier and Gaethje for BMF spoils.

“If I had to lean toward someone, I’d lean Dustin Poirier,” Alexander Volkanovski said on his YouTube channel. “He obviously won the last time they fought, and I’d probably lean towards Dustin. But you can’t tell me Justin Gaethje can’t acth him, you know what i mean? … it’s funny you say that, because I agree with it.”

“At the end of the day, fight anyone, anytime,” Alexander Volkanovski explained. “Who’s the real badasses? The guys that fight injured and consistently like Israel Adesanya, like myself. These guys are bad… 100 percent that’s something I’d love to do. I’ll do it antwhere, any place, any time. … Maybe a BMF belt fight if Islam (Makhachev) his going his thing, and then we can rematch after. Then I can have three belts; featherweight, BMF belt, and that lightweight belt.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Islam Makhachev mocks BMF title ahead of UFC 291 What is this I don't want this sh*t

Islam Makhachev, the current undisputed lightweight titleholder, has mocked the return of the symbolic BMF championship next month – claiming that Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje are competing for a belt made for “bums” ahead of UFC 291.

Makhachev, the current #3 ranked pound-for-pound ranked fighter under the banner of the UFC, and the current undisputed lightweight champion, has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 284 back in February of this year, successfully defending his title in a unanimous decision victory over featherweight kingpin, Alexander Volkanovski.

Islam Makhachev expected to fight Charles Oliveira again later this year

Expected to make his comeback in October at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, UAE – Makhachev has now been touted to fight former champion and current #1 ranked contender, Charles Oliveira in a rematch, after the Sao Paulo native returned to the winner’s enclosure at UFC 289 last weekend with a first round TKO against Beneil Dariush.

However, next month, the Octagon is set to host a lightweight rematch between former interim gold holders, Poirier and Gaethje, with the pair left with an outside chance to force a fresh title fight Makhachev – as the duo headline UFC 291 with symbolic BMF spoils on the line.

Scoffing at the return of the symbolic championship, Makhachev admitted that he does not even want the title on the line for him when he competes in the future.

“If Dustin Poirier beats Justin Gaethje, and he’s gonna fight next for the lightweight title, he’s gonna come with ‘BMF’ title?” Islam Makhachev asked Daniel Cormier during an appearance on Check In. “I don’t want this sh*t. ‘BMF’ – what is this? This belt’s for the bums.”

“First time, who fought for this belt? (Jorge) Masvidal and Nate Diaz,” Islam Makhachev continued. “Two people (who) never can be champion, you know? They [the UFC] give some belt (and say), ‘Be happy, fight for ‘BMF’’”
