Aljamain Sterling backed as bantamweight goat by Jon Anik at UFC 292 he can even lose by head kick in 30 seconds and he's still the greatest

Undisputed bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling has been dubbed the greatest bantamweight of all-time to ever step foot inside the Octagon by play-by-play lead, Jon Anik, who claims that regardless of result against incoming challenger, Sean O’Malley at UFC 292, the Uniondale native’s status will remain unchanged.

Sterling, the current undisputed bantamweight champion, is slated to make his return to the Octagon at UFC 292 next weekend in Boston, Massachusetts, headlining the TD Garden card in a title defense against the current number two ranked contender, O’Malley.

Recently separating himself as the most prolific bantamweight champion in the history of the promotion back in May, Sterling headlined UFC 288 in Newark, New Jersey, defeating the former flyweight and bantamweight kingpin, Henry Cejudo in a close, split decision win.

Jon Anik sings the praises of Aljamain Sterling ahead of his return at UFC 292

And attempting to land a further record-setting fourth consecutive title defense against Montana native, O’Malley, Sterling hasb been labelled the greatest bantamweight to ever compete in the UFC, even if he loses in spectacular fashion against O’Malley next weekend.

“He (Aljamain Sterling) could lose by head kick 30 seconds in [against Sean O’Malley at UFC 292], and he’s still the greatest UFC bantamweight champion of all time, for me,” Jon Anik told MMA Junkie. “Aljamain Sterling is criminally underappreciated.”

Prior to his split judging win over Los Angeles native, Cejudo earlier this year, Sterling managed to turn in his second successful title defense in a dominant second round ground strikes TKO win over former champion, T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 280 last October – which followed a rematch title unification and retention win against rival, Petr Yan

As for O’Malley, the surging bantamweight contender enters next weekend’s premiere title challenge off the back of a close, split decision win of his own over former champion and Dudinka native, Yan.

Footage shows UFC 185lber Chris Curtis attempting to fight on after suffering a rib injury while sparring Ian Garry.

Garry and his team have been churning out social media content for some time now, documenting the Irishman travelling around the world and training at different gyms. In the latest chapter, this time in Miami, Florida, Garry enlisted the help of the well-experienced middleweight, Curtis for sparring.

However, during the training session, Curtis appeared to injure on of his ribs, claiming he had separated it. After a short break, the American quickly attempted to get straight back to action much to dismay of Garry.

“Stop being an idiot. BRO! I’m gonna jump the f**k out of the ring,” Garry said.

“Come on, it’s a rib, Layla [Garry’s wife] make him fight” Curtis responded.

“You’re too tough for your own good. You’re fighting soon,” Garry replied.

“I got six weeks,” Curtis said attempting to reason, “Ian buddy come on, finish the round”.

“You’re going to come in the next one. Trust me,” said Garry. This is where you being smart is going to get you to the f*****g top five, the belt, all of that shit. You don’t need to be tough here.”

Curtis is currently booked to face Anthony Hernandez on September 16 as part of a UFC Fight Night card.

Sparring Curtis does present a similar fighting style of Garry’s next opponent, Goeff Neal. The pair will face one another in just 10 days time on the main card of UFC 292, headlined by Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley.

It will be the biggest test of Garry’s young career and will also be a chance for the 25-year-old to break into the welterweight top-10.

Attending last night’s headliner at UFC Fight Night Nashville between former opponent, Cory Sandhagen, and New England Cartel staple, Rob Font, undisputed bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling has described the headlining bout as a “sh*t” – amid a wrestling-heavy display from Sandhagen, en route to a dominant judging win.

Sterling, the current undisputed bantamweight champion, is slated to take main event honors at UFC 292 next weekend in Boston, Massachusetts – taking on the surging Sean O’Malley in a fourth attempted title defense.

Earlier this year, Uniondale native, Aljamain Sterling managed to land a close, split decision win over former undisputed flyweight and bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo in Newark, New Jersey – becoming the first gold holder in the division’s history to land three successful title defenses in the UFC.

Aljamain Sterling blasts Cory Sandhagen’s victory at UFC Nashville

And with a keen eye on last night’s headliner between former opponent, Sandhagen, and Font – Sterling described the pairing as “sh*t” – likely criticizing a wrestling and grappling-heavy display from the surging former foe.

“Respectfully, this fight was sh*t,” Aljamain Sterling posted on his official X account.

Sharing the Octagon with Colorado back in June 2020 in a bantamweight title-eliminator, Serra-Longo MMA staple, Sterling managed to land his first title charge off the back of a stunning opening round submission win over Sandhagen – submitting the latter in less than two minutes with a blistering rear-naked choke

Receiving significant criticizm for his performance against short-notice replacement, Font, Sandhagen, who was originally booked to fight the streaking, Umar Nurmagomedov, revealed he suffered a tricep injury in the early goings of last night’s main event in Tennessee – sporting a sling around his right arm and shoulder following his unanimous decision triumph.

Last night’s victory came as Sandhagen’s third on the trot – prior to a split decision win over Marlon Vera earlier this year, and a prior doctor’s stoppage win over Song Yadong last year in a headliner at the UFC Apex facility.

Cory Sandhagen scoffs at career advice from super lame Sean O'Malley UFC 292

Ahead of his return to the Octagon this weekend atop a UFC Fight Night Nashville card, surging bantamweight technician, Cory Sandhagen has elected against taking career advice from incoming title challenger, Sean O’Malley – describing certain characteristics of the Montana native as “super lame”.

Sandhagen, the current number four ranked bantamweight contender, makes his Octagon return this weekend at UFC Nashville – taking on short-notice replacement, Rob Font, after an initial scheduled clash against the streaking, Umar Nurmagomedov fell to the wayside.

Sidelined since April, Eliot Marshall trainee, Sandhagen most recently turned in a one-sided split decision win over common-foe, Marlon Vera at UFC Fight Night San Antonio, which followed a prior fourth round doctor’s stoppage win over Song Yadong in another headlined last year.

For O’Malley, the Dana White’s Contender Series alum has been sidelined himself since October of last year, earning next week’s UFC 292 title fight against champion, Aljamain Sterling with a close judging win of his own over former gold holder and common-opponent, Petr Yan.

Cory Sandhagen explains his differences with Sean O’Malley

Sharing his thoughts on recent comments made in a bid to advise fighters from O’Malley, Sandhagen admitted that he could not “connect” with some of the thought processes of the title chaser.

“There are things about Sean O’Malley that I think are just like, super lame,” Cory Sandhagen told Shakiel Mahjouri during a recent interview. “Talking about things like, ‘You fight the worst guy for the most amount of money.’ Everything being like, business decisions. It’s like, I can’t connect with that type of thinking at all. To me, those are ways of thinking that are just weak and they’re ways of thinking that are gonna trend into ruining the sport a little bit, in my opinion.”

“You should want to fight the best guy,” Cory Sandhagen explained. “If you’re here to be the actual world champion, that’s what we’re doing. I don’t see this as a business really… I make good money now, I’m good. The greediness and the business decisions things that happen in a lot of these ways of thinking are, to me, lame. I don’t think that passing on the message that you should fight the worst guy for the most amount of money – that is just such a weak way of thinking.” (Transcribed by MMA News)
