Beneil Dariush claims he beats Charles Oliveira if they rematch again in the UFC

Iranian grappling talent, Beneil Dariush may have seen his impressive seven-fight winning run halted by former champion, Charles Oliveira earlier this summer in the co-main event of UFC 288, however, insists he would defeat the Brazilian in the future if they share the Octagon again.

Dariush, the current number four ranked lightweight contender, most recently co-headlined UFC 288 back in June in Canada, suffering a dominant opening round loss to Sao Paulo finisher, Oliveira – with the former undisputed lightweight champion landing a first round ground strikes TKO win.

Off the back of the victory, Oliveira, the current number one ranked contender has booked his return to a title setting, taking on soon-to-be two-time opponent and undisputed gold holder, Islam Makhachev atop UFC 294 in October in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Beneil Dariush confident he beats Charles Oliveira in potential UFC rematch

Yet to return to the Octagon since his defeat, Kings MMA staple, Dariush, who has targeted a return to active competition before the close of this year, claimed he would defeat Oliveira if they fight again.

“Yeah, it’s not my first time losing and it’s not my first time rebuilding back up,” Beneil Dariush told UFC Unfiltered during a recent interview. “I’ve done it before. To be honest with you, I’m not sure why the fight [with Charles Oliveira] went the way it did. But like, I don’t feel something was missing that night. I’m going to get that fixed. I’m going to figure it out, and I’m going to show a better version for sure.”

“I really believe, (if) we fight again, I win that fight,” Beneil Dariush continued. “So, I have to work hard. He was about as strong as I thought he was going to be.”

22-5-1 as a professional, Urmia-born contender, Dariush had landed notable consecutive wins over Thiago Moises, Drew Dober, Drakkar Klose, Mateusz Gamrot, and former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson before his defeat to Oliveira.

Paulo Costa vows to make Khamzat Chimaev suffer at UFC 294 take over Abu Dhabi

Ahead of his Octagon return at UFC 294 in October, one-time middleweight championship challenger, Paulo Costa has promised to “take over” Abu Dhabi – and make arch-rival, Khamzat Chimaev “suffer” in their long-awaited grudge-match.

Costa, the current number seven ranked middleweight contender, is scheduled to make his first Octagon outing since August of last year in his return at UFC 294 in October, taking on the undefeated Chimaev in the Chechen’s return to the middleweight limit to boot.

Sidelined since UFC 278 last summer in Salt Lake City, Costa most recently snapped a two-fight losing skid with a unanimous decision win over former undisputed middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold over the course of three rounds.

As for Chimaev, the unbeaten 12-0 finisher has been sidelined since September of last year, most recently turning in a first round D’Arce choke submission win over Kevin Holland at the T-Mobile Arena. Chimaev currently holds the number four rank in the official welterweight pile.

Paulo Costa plans to make Khamzat Chimaev “suffer” at UFC 294

Jabbing back-and-forth with AllStars MMA staple, Chimaev over the course of recent weeks following the confirmation of their matchup in the Middle East, Costa claimed he would knock out the former in the first round. And has now laid the ground works to make Chimaev “suffer” when they share the Octagon.

“I hate that dude,” Paulo Costa said of Khamzat Chimaev during an interview with MMA Junkie. “I’m training to make him suffer. Not only to beat him – but I want to do that in great style. I put all my skills and all my concentration, focus to be better than ever.”

“Physically, mentally, technically, all parts together to help me perform better than ever,” Paulo Costa continued. “I know over there in Abu Dhabi it will be kind of his house, but I don’t care. I’m going there to take over.”

Justin Gaethje wants title rematch with Charles Oliveira instead of Islam Makhachev redemption UFC 291

UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje wants Charles Oliveira to defeat Islam Mahkahcev to step up the perfect chance of redemption.

Last nights clash between Gaethje and Dustin Poirier did not disappoint the pre-fight hype. After what was a competitive first round with narrow misses from both men, Gaethje wasted no time to land the fatal blow a minute into the second round.

Gaethje had began to throw the head kick in the first round, but it wasn’t until he put it behind a fake back hand that it landed cleanly. Poirier did not see it coming and send his unconscious body crashing to the floor, forcing referee Herb Dean spring to action before he could receive any more punishment.

The win now sets Gaethje up to face the winner of Makhachev and Oliveira for the lightweight title.

Justin Gaethje hoping for revenge

With Makhchev and Oliveira set to rematch this October in the main event of UFC 294, Gaethje will have to wait until it least the first quarter of 2024 for his shot. However, the 33-year-old doesn’t seem to bothered about that, and is in fact already thinking about having his own rematch with Oliveira.

“I’d prefer Charles because he beat me,” Gaethje said to the media. “I’m a competitor, this chance at redemption was amazing… It drove me to work harder, be ready more, but they’re the best in the world, and I want to fight the best in the world. After the last fight, I couldn’t see Charles winning [against Islam at UFC 294] but I can hope.”

Gaethje and Oliveira squared off at UFC 274 in May of 2022, in which the latter would secure a first-round stoppage. After surviving a couple early knockdowns, Oliveira would land a right hand that would send ‘The Highlight’ to floor and would quickly jump on his back – securing a rear naked choke finish.

However, Gaethje has seemed to add more layers to his game and has had more mature performance in his last two outings.

Justin Gaethje should fight Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 he's ready Chael Sonnen

Chael Sonnen is very impressed with Justin Gaethje’s recent performance over Dustin Poirier and is fully convinced that Gaethje is not only ready for UFC 294, but that Gaethje should take Charles Oliveira’s place in fighting Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title.

UFC 291 was an absolutely magnificent card, headlined by one of the most desired rematches in years. Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier stepped into the octagon and delivered a truly fantastic fight. Things were so competitive in the first round, and it all looked like things could go either way. The second round started similarly to the first, with neither fighter really gaining a true upper hand. Then, as soon as the round began, it was almost just as quickly that it was over.

Justin Gaethje landed the most picture-perfect headkick to send Poirier crashing to the ground. He followed up the kick with a ferocious hammer fist, and the referee Herb Dead didn’t waste any time: as he soon came baseball sliding in to protect Poirier from more damage and to stop the fight.

Justin Gaethje reigns victorious in the rematch, but now Chael Sonnen is eager to see him quickly turn things around for a title match at UFC 294

So, Justin Gaethje would prevail in the infamous rematch fans had been dying to see for so long. Now, even though he and Poirier are 1-1, many fans, and even Chael Sonnen himself would love to see Gaethje make the quick turnaround for a title fight.

“I’m not positive that Charles Oliveira wants to do that fight,” Sonnen speculated on the ESPN post-fight show. “I don’t want to be a spoiler but I read his Twitter account, he’s saying he wants to fight Conor McGregor next. And the only reason I bring that to you: we at minimum have a backup. We thought that Justin Gaethje or [Dustin] Poirier, whoever came out would be the No. 1 contender. We also thought they’d be hurt. We thought this was going to be a bludgeon. We thought they were gonna be swapping stories in the hospital.”

“This was a surprise finish,” Chael Sonnen continued “He’s (Justin Gaethje is) surprisingly fresh… I think he’s ready to go in.”

“The Charles Oliveira vs. [Islam] Makhachev fight was made because nobody thought — whoever won this fight was not going to make a quick turn to go back,” Anthony Smith added on-air during the post-fight show. “And everyone knows that Gaethje does not like short-notice fights, he likes a lot of time to prepare, he likes a lot of rest. I think that if the matchmakers had known this would possibly be the result, they may have waited a little bit longer to match that Oliveira fight.”

Even Justin Gaethje himself seemed pretty open to the idea of being a backup for the Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira fight, something that is extremely uncharacteristic for him. “I’d want to go watch it, yeah,” he said when asked about Makhachev vs. Oliveira. “I don’t think I’d want to be a backup. Unless they pay me a s— ton of money, then maybe. Maybe.”

Even saying maybe is a far cry from what Gaethje would usually say: which would have been something along the lines of an emphatic no. So, things are looking very interesting in the lightweight division now. Poirier and Justin Gaethje will need to settle their infamous rivalry with a trilogy fight one day, and Gaethje is now a clear-cut number-one contender for the title.
