Darren Till doubts Ian Garry's illness ahead of UFC 296 I'm not buying that

Former welterweight title challenger and middleweight contender, Darren Till has questioned the legitimacy of unbeaten striker, Ian Garry’s battle with pneumonia – resulting in his withdrawal from a scheduled fight with Vicente Luque at UFC 296 tonight, questioning a recent interview conducted with the Dubliner.

Till, an alum of the UFC, has yet to return to active competition since he featured at UFC 282 back in December of last year, suffering his third consecutive loss in the form of a third round neck crank submission loss to incoming title challenger and UFC 297 headliner, Dricus du Plessis.

As for Garry, the undefeated number ten ranked welterweight challenger, was scheduled to feature on the main card of UFC 296 tonight – taking on Brazilian-American, Luque in a high-stakes welterweight clash.

However, late Wednesday night, reports confirmed by Dana White revealed that flu-like symptoms eventually resulted in pneumonia, with Garry pulled from the bout as a result.

Addressing his exit from the clash, Portmarnock striker, Garry claimed he could “barely breathe” at the moment as he deals with the illness, before assuring fans that he would return to the Octagon as soon as possible.

“How are we, I can barely breathe,” Ian Garry told TNT Sports. “It’s upsetting, it’s irritating, it’s annoying. ‘Cause you guys know I love to fight more than anything. And I’ve never pulled out of a fight, I’ve never had to be in this situation, but here we are. And we’ll deal with it the way we deal with everything: the best in the world.”

“I mean, the truth is – I’ve got what I’ve got, we’ll deal with it,” Ian Garry explained. “And then we’ll get back on the horse and then we’ll fight. …But yeah, I just wanna let you guys know, that I’m good – and I’m coming for everybody with a full head of steam.”

However, as far as Liverpool striker, Till is concerned, he’s unsure if Garry’s illness is legitimate – and futhermore, his current condition.

“I’m not buying this, I’ll be honest,” Darren Till tweeted in response to Ian Garry’s interview.

Drake places $1,200,000 payout bet on Leon Edwards to beat Colby Covington at UFC 296

Canadian rapper and R&B star, Drake has once more thrown a tonne of money at combat sports betting following his recent venture on Logan Paul to beat Dillon Danis in their boxing match earlier this year – slapping $250,000 on welterweight champion, Leon Edwards to beat Colby Covington at UFC 296 tonight – with a payout exceeding $1,200,000 awaiting him should be bet correctly.

Headlining UFC 296 tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada, Edwards takes on former interim welterweight champion, Covington, attempting to land his second consecutive successful defense of the title in a heated grudge match between the two.

Sidelined since March of this year, Birmingham native, Edwards most recently landed a close, majority decision win over common-foe and former pound-for-pound number one, Kamaru Usman in the pair’s trilogy rubber match.

As for Covington, the outspoken former interim gold holder has yet to feature since he took main event honors against Jorge Masvidal back in March of last year, landing a one-sided unanimous decision win over the Miami native in another grudge match between the two.

Drake slaps massive bet on Leon Edwards to win at UFC 296

And with tension reaching beyond boiling point after Covington mocked the murder of Edwards’ father during this week’s pre-fight press conference, Canadian rap star, Drake has again reached into his deep pockets – splashing a massive $250,000 bet on Edwards to stop Covington via knockout in tonight’s UFC 296 title clash – potentially landing more than $1,200,000 in payout fees.

“Head shot please and thank you @leonedwardsmma,” Drake posted on his official Instagram account, accompanied by a screenshot of his betting slip.

In more recent betting ventures by Drake – which have been labelled as certain curses to fighters, the Canadian slapped down half a million dollars on Israel Adesanya to beat Sean Strickland at UFC 293, with the former going on to lose his championship to the latter in a shutout decision loss.

In August, Drake also placed a quarter of a million dollar wager on Nate Diaz to beat Jake Paul in the UFC alum’s professional boxing debut – which the Stockton veteran would lose in another one-sided decision defeat.

Cody Garbrandt unsure on rivalry with T.J. Dillashaw UFC 296 there's always going to be an asterisk

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt has claimed he’s unsure if he’ll ever share a similar sentiment to former teammate, Urijah Faber and end his long-standing rift with former two-time foe and former titleholder, T.J. Dillashaw, claiming there will always been an “asterisk” beside the veteran’s name.

Garbrandt, a former undisputed bantamweight champion, makes his return to the Octagon tonight at UFC 296 in Las Vegas, attempting to turn in a two-fight winning run for the first time since his 2016 title winning run – as he takes on Brian Kelleher in a bantamweight clash.

As for Dillashaw, the Angels Camp native briefly made his return to the Octagon in October of last year, attempting to become the first three-time bantamweight champion in promtoional history, before a lingering shoulder injury resulted in a one-sided second round TKO loss to Aljamain Sterling.

Cody Garbrandt addresses T.J. Dillashaw rivalry

Sharing his thoughts on a potential squashing of a long-standing and heated rivalry with former Team Alpha MMA training partner, Dillashaw, Garbrandt appeared less interested in doing so than former teammate, Faber.

“I mean, it is what it is, T.J. (Dillashaw) is no longer in the UFC, you see with his career and towards the end of it, and that’s the reason why,” Cody Garbrandt told ESPN ahead of UFC 296. “The substances that he was taking, his body wasn’t able to uphold and good for him, hats off to him for what he was able to do. But, you know, there’s always going to be an asterisk and there should be an asterisk throughout his name and whatever he’s done in his career.”

“I know wholeheartedly that I can go through my whole UFC career and not ever had to take any performance-enhancing drug and just believe in my abilities,” Cody Garbrandt continued. (H/T MMA News)

Sean Strickland defends Leon Edwards dead father comment Colby Covington he's a fake coward UFC

Sean Strickland went in on UFC 296 headliner Colby Covington after the two-time title challenger made an especially horrendous comment about Leon Edward’s deceased father.

48 hours ahead of his long-awaited return to the Octagon, Covington stepped on stage and delivered a barrage of insults aimed at the reigning welterweight world champion. Most of it was innocent enough, but ‘Chaos’ took things one giant leap too far when he made an ill-advised crack about Edward’s father who passed away when the defending champ was only 13 years old.

The remark earned a heated response from Edwards who chucked a water bottle at Covington before being restrained by on-site security.

Sean Strickland Unloads on Colby Covington

Multiple members of the MMA community slammed Covington’s vile comment, including Jamahal Hill, Belal Muhammad, Marvin Vettori, and Megan Anderson. Unsurprisingly, the most scathing response to Covington’s verbal low blow came from current middleweight king Sean Strickland, who held absolutely nothing back during a press event on Friday.

“Colby is an utter piece of sh*t. If you know Colby on a personal level, he f*cked over everybody he f*cking knows and I take Colby as a personal insult to me because Trumpsters, the republican, you guys are my f*cking people,” Strickland said. “The blue-collar workers. You guys are my f*cking people and you have a c*nt like Colby taking up the banner and he don’t give a f*ck about you and him making fun of Leon’s dad, that is the biggest f*cking c*nt move you can do.

“Bad guy, good guy, doesn’t f*cking matter. He raised a boy to be a f*cking man. To win a title. To be a good man and a real f*cking American would applaud him for that. They wouldn’t tear him down for that. So just so you know, Colby is a fake f*cking p*ssy and if he was standing here right next to me, the only f*cking thing he would do is call 911 because he is the definition of a f*cking b*tch.

Colby Covington hopes that the third time will be the charm at UFC 296 as he steps inside the Octagon for yet another welterweight title opportunity. ‘Chaos’ came up short in two attempts to claim gold against former champion Kamaru Usman. His only two victories over the last four years have come against Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, two fighters who have since retired from the sport altogether.

Sean Strickland will be back in action at UFC 297 in January to defend his middleweight title for the first time. Four months removed from his shocking unanimous decision victory over Israel Adesanya, ‘Tarzan’ will square off with South African standout and No. 2 ranked contender Dricus Du Plessis.

Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes Leon Edwards ‘Smashes that geezer’ Colby Covington at uFC 296

Eddie Hearn

British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn doesn’t care much for mixed martial arts, but even he has found himself emotionally invested in Leon Edwards’ showdown against Colby Covington at UFC 296.

On Thursday, Edwards and Covington took the stage alongside other members of the UFC 296 main card at a press event inside T-Mobile Arena. It didn’t take long for ‘Chaos’ to take over the festivities, delivering a series of jabs to his opponent and other panelists that fell within the range of light-hearted to semi-distasteful. However, Covington clearly crossed the line when he made an absolutely vile comment about Leon Edwards’ deceased father.

During one of the many back-and-forth exchanges between the pair, Covington took things to an unnecessarily personal level, drawing the ire of fans and media members alike.

“I’m bringing you to the seventh layer of hell,” Covington told Edwards, before adding: “We’ll say ‘What’s up’ to your dad while we’re there.”

Edwards’ father was shot and killed in a London nightclub when the MMA star was just 13 years old. ‘Rocky’ has since said he believes the motive of the murderer was a dispute over money.

Understandably upset, Edwards chucked a bottle at Covington before the two fighters stood up from their seats. Security quickly intervened, preventing things from escalating further. While getting both fighters back to their chairs, Covington continued pandering to the pro-America crowd in his elementary-level cosplay.

Eddie Hearn Condemns Covington’s ‘Horrible’ comment

Speaking with IFL TV, Eddie Hearn condemned Covington’s press conference comments, saying:

“I don’t know anything about UFC, I’ve met Leon a couple of times, lovely fella — I hope he smashes that geezer to pieces tomorrow night. Like, how can you say that? I know you can get carried away, but you’ve got to have some kind of compassion. That’s a horrible thing to say.”

Do you agree with Eddie Hearn? Did Covington go too far, or is there simply nothing considered off-limits in the fight game anymore?

Colby Covington goes into his third shot at the welterweight world title having gone 2-2 in his last four outings dating back to 2019. During that run, ‘Chaos’ suffered losses against then-champion Kamaru Usman on two separate occasions while scoring wins over Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, two fighters who have since retired from the sport following a series of defeats.
