Merab Dvalishvili reveals he will be ready to fight Sean O'Malley at UFC 296 in December I'm ready

Streaking number two ranked bantamweight contender, Merab Dvalishvili has provided an update on his timeline for a return from hand surgery, claiming he will be “1,000%” ready to compete for divisional gold against the newly-minted titleholder, Sean O’Malley at UFC 296 in December.

Dvalishvili, who held the number one rank at 135lbs before UFC 292 last weekend, saw himself slip from the divisional summit after the event’s headliner – which saw his Serra-Longo MMA training partner, Aljamain Sterling drop his championship in a second round TKO loss against the above-mentioned O’Malley.

Sidelined since he headlined a ‘Fight Night’ billed event at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada – Merab Dvalishvili improved his winning run to an impressive nine straight fights with a completely one-sided shutout unanimous decision win over former division champion, Petr Yan in a main event headliner.

In the time since, the Tbilisi native has been sidelined through injury, undergoing a surgical procedure to address a long-standing hand injury, however, is expected to challenge for undisputed spoils in teammate, Sterling’s absence.

Merab Dvalishvili claims he is ready to fight Sean O’Malley at UFC 296

And despite the fact Montana native, O’Malley has targeted first title defenses against either Marlon Vera or former two-weight champion, Henry Cejudo, Dvalishvili has claimed he will be “ready” to compete at UFC 296 in December.

“1,000% I will be ready,” Merab Dvalishili told TSN reporter, Aaron Bronsteter. “I will be ready, yes, man. My hand is still – the doctor just proved me I can start training, proved me that I can start slowly punching (and) grappling. But if the fight is next month, then I will be ready, because I don’t care, I’m just gonna ignore the pain. And I’m just gonna fight.”

“Definitely in December I will be ready,” Merab Dvaslishvili explained. “If this fight [with Sean O’Malley] will happen, I would love to fight him.”

Conor McGregor makes stunning u turn on UFC comeback December is back on the table

Former UFC champion, Conor McGregor claims that his return could possibly be in December of this year.

While McGregor’s return seemed likely, however the situation is now almost laughable. Promises from both McGregor and the UFC have been thrown around over the past few months but there has been no announcement yet.

The issue regarding McGregor’s USADA status has also seemingly not been resolved and no one has laid out plans and what direction the UFC and the Irishman will go.

Recently, McGregor  casted more doubt on his return, claiming that the UFC would not allow him to return this December, a date which he had previously claimed he would fight on

“They’re not going to let me fight in December, ladies and gentlemen,” McGregor said. “You’ve seen Chris Weidman [at UFC 292]. Imagine what that injury is. I feel like I’m being kept from my livelihood, and I’ve been feeling this for years. I’m not going to air grievances. I’m going to buoy down and soldier on. I’m ready. I wanted an announcement for [UFC 296 on] Dec. 16. I’ve given everything. So, it’s not going to happen. It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.” (H/T MMA Junkie)

Conor McGregor makes U-turn on December date

However, now it seems that the December date is back o the table and ‘The Notorious’ put out a recent Tweet.

‘December is back on the table!’– Conor McGregor

While McGregor is still one f the sports biggest stars, patience will wear thin in regard by constant claims of a return. The 35-year-old has nothing left to prove, he is a UFC double champ and changed the sport forever all while making countless millions – he does not need to fight.

Some fighters seem to find it very difficult to leave the sport behind, sometimes because of finical reasons, but also because it is such a massive part of their identity. A sort of insecurity which leaves them questioning who they really are beyond fighting – who they are past tis image they have fought and bled to build.

Headlining his first pay-per-view event under the banner of the promotion, surging striker, O’Malley clinched the undisputed bantamweight crown with a spectacular second round finish of the dominant defending champion, Aljamain Sterling.

Managing to avoid takedown attempts from the Uniondale wrestling ace throughout a cagey first round, O’Malley dropped the defending bantamweight champion with a massive counter right straight early in the second round, faceplanting Sterling before following up with well-placed ground strikes to earn his bantamweight title victory to a raucous reception at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

And following his title-clinching win, Montana native, O’Malley, who was urged to first defend his title against either streaking contenders, Merab Dvalishvili, or Cory Sandhagen, however, issued a direct call out to Ecuadorian contender, Vera – whom is the sole professional to defeat O’Malley throughout his career.

“I said going into this fight, it only takes one mistake against me,” Sean O’Malley told Joe Rogan during his post-fight interview after UFC 292. “I don’t even know if that was a mistake – I’m just that f*cking good. This is just the beginning of the ‘Suga’ era, I’m running this sh*t until 2035, baby. Did ‘Chito’ (Marlon Vera) win? Was it boring. Probably. I’ll whoop ‘Chito’s ass in December in Vegas at T-Mobile. Let’s f*cking go.”

Himself opening the main card of UFC 292 last night in Boston, Massachusetts, Vera managed to turn in a unanimous decision win over common-foe, Pedro Munhoz in a tightly-contested matchup.

And immediately reacting to a call out for a title rematch with O’Malley, Vera appeared to accept a December turnaround at UFC 296.

“Take a seat kids,” Marlon Vera posted on his official X account. “(Money bag emoji) Send me contract ok.”

Facing O’Malley in the co-main event of UFC 252 in the summer of 2020, Vera managed to hand the Dana White’s Contender Series veteran with a first round ground strikes TKO win at the UFC Apex facility.
