Incoming UFC 298 headliner, Ilia Topuria may be pre-occupied by a title siege against featherweight kingpin, Alexander Volkanovski, however, plans to evenutally lure former division champion, Conor McGregor to a future fight – atop a premiere card in Spain.

Topuria, the current number three ranked featherweight contender, is slated to headline UFC 298 later this month in Anaheim, making his pay-per-view headliner debut in a massive featherweight title charge against undisputed champion, Volkanovski.

And as for McGregor, the former two-division champion has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 264 back in July 2021, suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula in a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier

Ilia Topuria welcomes Conor McGregor clash at UFC Spain

Welcoming the possibility of an immediate title defense against the Dubliner if he topples Volkanovski at UFC 298 – Topuria boldly claimed to keep McGregor “rich” in a future clash – if he doesn’t get beaten by targeted foe, Michael Chandler first.

“Conor McGregor, that’s the fight I’m looking for,” Ilia Topuria said during an interview with MMA Fighting. “He has a a great fight with Michael Chandler. If he doesn’t get his ass whooped, he will be a pleasure to share the Octagon with me.”

“Maybe in (sic) UFC Spain,” Ilia Topuria suggested. “We’re both from Europe, and he will be able to go back home and tell his wife, ‘Baby, take out the red panties, Topuria kept us rich.’”

Remaining supremely confident ahead of his first title challenge under the promotion’s banner, Topuria vowed to turn in a dominant first round finish of Volkanovski – in the form of a crushing knockout win.

Sidelined since last summer, Topuria most recently retained his unbeaten featherweight streak in the Octagon with a decision shutout win over former interim title challenger, Josh Emmett at UFC Jacksonville in his first main event bout.

Ian Garry vows to leave Geoff Neal like a defecating dog at UFC 298 I'll make him quit

Unbeaten welterweight contender, Ian Garry has promised to leave incoming foe, Geoff Neal looking like a defecating dog in their UFC 298 grudge match later this month – claiming he will make the Texas striker “quit” inside the Octagon.

Garry, the current number number ten ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since August of last year, most recently turning in a one-sided decision shutout over recent winner, welterweight veteran, Neil Magny.

And booked for a high-profile clash with Kill Cliff FC stablemate, Vicente Luque at UFC 296 back in December, a nasty viral infection forced Dublin striker, Garry from the pairing with the Brazilian-American.

Ian Garry provides bizarre prediction for UFC 298 return

Set to make his return this month in a rescheduled fight against Texan striker, Neal at UFC 298 in Anaheim, Garry has made a rather bizarre and specific prediction for his planned finish of the former – anecdotally describing the process of a dog defecating.

“What am I going to finish him (Geoff Neal) with?” Ian Garry told on his official Instagram account. “I am going to make him quit. He’ll choose when he’s done. I’d like to kick him to the body and have him do that – when the dog is sh*tting.”

“The dog looks at you like – when they’re pooing, for protection,” Ian Garry explained. “That’s what they do, right? [They] look at their owners when they’re pooing because that’s when they’re vulnerable for attack.” (H/T MMANews)

Holding the number eight rank at the welterweight limit, Neal most recently featured at UFC 285 back in March, suffering a third round rear-naked choke loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov, which snapped a winning run over both the above-mentioned, Luque, and Santiago Ponzinibbio.

Robert Whittaker vows to defeat Dricus du Plessis in rematch after UFC 298 I'm a better fighter than him

Former undisputed middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker claims that if he fights newly-crowned divisional titleholder, Dricus du Plessis in a rematch after his return to the Octagon at UFC 298 this month, he will avenge his loss to the South African.

Whittaker, a former undisputed middleweight champion and perennial contender at the weight class, has been sidelined since he featured against the Pretoria native in an officially billed title eliminator back in July of last year during International Fight Week.

Suffering his first loss in the division to a fighter other than two-time foe, fellow former kingpin, Israel Adesanya, Whittaker was stopped with a flurry of second round ground strikes following a knockdown for a TKO blemish.

And drawing former title challenger, Paulo Costa in two weeks’ time at UFC 298 in Anaheim, Whittaker, who vowed to severely “hurt” the Brazilian in their pivotal clash, and when reflecting on his matchup with du Plessis las summer, claimed if they fought again – he beats him nine times out of 10.

“Dricus (du Plessis) is a hungry guy, and I think I underestimated that hunger,” Robert Whittaker told assembled media at a UFC 298 press event in Sydney. “I still believe I beat him nine times out of 10, I still believe that I’m a better fighter than he is, that I have a better skill set than he does, but [fighting] a big, strong, hungry guy that’s willing to leave it all in there, you need to match that. I feel like I didn’t do that in that last fight and it really made me think a little bit.”

Himself expected to make his own return in a title fight against the above-mentioned, Adesanya, du Plessis has been linked with a massive headlining fight on a monumental UFC 300 card in April.

Ilia Topuria promises to land first round KO win over Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298

The undefeated Ilia Topuria is extremely confident in his abilities leading into the biggest fight of his career at UFC 298.

Although Alexander Volkanovski has never lost at 145lbs, Topuria believes he’ll be able to end the fight early with a first-round knockout. Volkanovski is coming off of a vicious knockout loss at the hands (or foot, to be exact) of the UFC’s lightweight champion: Islam Makhachev.

Volkanovski has battled the featherweight division’s best and brightest and has been tested against some of the greatest fighters to ever grace the weight class. Topuria is no stranger to top-notch competition himself though, and holds wins over the likes of fighters like Bryce Mitchell, and Josh Emmett.

Ilia Topuria Describes Victory over Alexander Volkanovski, claims his time is over

“I see myself finishing him in the first round – knockout,” Topuria told UFC Español (H/T MMA Junkie). “It’s most likely going to be a knockout unless he dives for my legs. I’m going to put his lights out.”

“I’m part of the new generation of MMA,” Topuria continued. “I bring an evolved style in all areas of the sport: on the feet, in the wrestling, in the grappling. I consider myself a far more complete and effective finisher than Volkanovski.”

“The experience is on his side, but the young blood is on my side. This is my moment. God’s timing is perfect, and He’s prepared me for this moment. There won’t be any failure.”

Ilia Topuria is indeed challenging the throne at the perfect time. With Volkanovski coming off of a devastating knockout, there’s no doubt that that has to leave somebody’s confidence a little shaken. Ilia Topuria will be coming into the fight with all of the momentum, while Alexander Volkanovski will simply be looking to get things back on track.

“I’m not going to say it’s been the toughest camp because every camp we do is always hard, but I will say it’s been the most professional camp I’ve ever done,” Topuria said. “We’ve done a deep analysis on my opponent, and we’re prepared for the fight.”

Alexander Volkanovski plans lightweight title fight after UFC 298 definitely in the near future

Undisputed featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski claims a lightweight return is defintiely something he plots in the immediate future – despite suffering losses in his first two charges for the undisputed gold at 155 pounds last year.

Volkanovski, the current undisputed featherweight champion, has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 294 back in October of last year in Abu Dhabi, UAE on short-notice.

Suffering his second attempt to dislodge pound-for-pound number one, Islam Makhachev from his lightweight perch, Volkanovski was stopped with a stunning opening round high-kick and strikes KO loss to the Russian in the pair’s rematch.

And booking a quickfire comeback later this month at UFC 298 in Anaheim, Volkanovski takes on the surging, unbeaten featherweight challenger, Ilia Topuria – attempting to retain his featherweight crown as part of a dominant reign.

Alexander Volkanovski plans lightweight future

However, despite the fact a clear path to a lightweight title siege for a third time seems more than cloudy for New South Wales native, Volkanovski, the incoming headlining starts still has plans for a continued future a division higher.

“Definitely not (finished at lightweight},” Alexander Volkanovski told assembled media during a press event ahead of UFC 298 in Sydney. “Obviously straight after – I’m a realist. I’m not expecting a rematch straight away. Everyone’s going to see that. They’re going to be like, ‘The age thing’ and all that. There’s going tobe some people doubting, ‘Is his time done?’ – which is hyping up this fight, so I’m all good with it.”

“But, everybody’s going to be reminded, and everybody is going to be switching a full 180 (degrees) saying there’s nobody left for me at 145, and they want me to go take that lightweight belt. That’s what I plan on doing. I’m going to go out there, take care of Ilia (Topuria) and we’ll see what’s next, but lightweight definitely in the near future.”
