Alex Pereira explains meme celebration over Jamahal Hill that's the least I could do to him trash talk

Turning in a spectacular knockout win over former champion, Jamahal Hill last night in the main event of UFC 300, undisputed light heavyweight kingpin, Alex Pereira has explained the origin of his meme celebration after his victory – claiming after the Illinois native’s heated approach to their clash, celebrating in such a manner it eh least he could do.

Pereira, a former undisputed middleweight titleholder, turned in another stunning knockout win overnight in the main event of UFC 300, dispatching the returning DWCS alum, Hill with a devastating opening round shovel hook finish in Las Vegas.

Rejecting a timeout offer from referee, Herb Dean following an inadvertent groin kick, Pereira brushed the veteran official aside, before landing a massive left hand strike on Hill, sending him to the canvas and finishing with a slew of ground strikes for a dominant first round knockout triumph.

Poking fun at Hill’s knockout loss in the immediate aftermath of his win, Pereira gestured to the unconscious challenger repeatedly, before circling the Octagon in celebration.

Explaining the nature for his outlandish celebration gesture, Pereira claimed that after Hill attempted to ramp up their rivalry with verbals during fight week, celebrating in such a fashion was the least he could do.

“I spoke with my team before that I wanted to fight five rounds,” Alex Pereira told assembled media after UFC 300. “But if the knockout happened, that’s what I was going to do. He behaved not so good.”

“He started respectfully during the week and then he did what he did during the press conference and the weigh-ins, so honestly, the least that I could do was just that to him,” Alex Pereira explained.

Calling for a quickfire return after emerging relatively unscathed against Hill, Pereira suggested a May return in just three weeks time at UFC 301 in his native Brazil, however, promotional boss, Dana White revealed the Sao Paulo kingpin had suffered a broken toe just two weeks ahead of his title headliner overnight.

While celebrating the smashing success of UFC 300 on Saturday night, CEO Dana White took a moment to roast the Professional Fighters League — or as he calls them, “PFL-ator.

On April 13, the Ultimate Fighting Championship delivered its biggest event in promotional history, headlined by an epic light heavyweight title fight between reigning and defending titleholder Alex Pereira and ex-champion Jamahal Hill. Just past the three-minute mark, ‘Poatan’ sent Hill crashing to the canvas with a vicious left uppercut, bringing a quick end to a stellar night of action.

As stunning as Pereira’s KO was, the talk of the night was undoubtedly Max Holloway’s absolutely insane buzzer-beating knockout of Justin Gaethje to claim the BMF title.

Speaking with media members during the post-fight press conference, White was questioned about potentially taking the UFC to Holloway’s native Hawaii one day. White didn’t have much to offer in response but he somehow segued into talking about the PFL who put on a show in Las Vegas just 24 hours before UFC 300 kicked off.

“Bellator could put on a fight in the f*cking parking lot,” White said. “You know, PFL-ator was here on Friday. I didn’t know that. They were here on Friday selling tickets, buy two, get two free. I’m not busting on them. That’s a f*cking fact. They put out a memo, buy two, get two free. You’re having a bad f*cking week if those are the memos you’re putting out. There were more people in my f*cking green room than there were at the fight.”

It’s far from the first time that White has thrown shade at the PFL and its merger with Bellator.

“I’ve covered this before,” White said at a post-fight event in December. “One sh*tty organization that sells no tickets and nobody watches buys another sh*tty organization that sells no tickets and nobody watches. Sounds like a f*cking winner to me. Woo!”

One of the PFL’s biggest stars, Kayla Harrison, made her Octagon debut at UFC 300 against former bantamweight women’s champion Holly Holm. The two-time Olympic gold medalist delivered a dominant performance, dispatching ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ via TKO in the second round. The win will likely put her in line to challenge for the 135-pound title later this year.

Israel Adesanya has hilarious reaction to Alex Pereria's epic knockout at UFC 300: 'He got a flashback'

So much for the advice Israel Adesanya gave to Jamahal Hill ahead of UFC 300.

Ahead of his bid to reclaim the crown he’d never lost, ‘Sweet Dreams’ sought the wisdom of the only man who had handed Alex Pereira a loss inside the Octagon. Unfortunately, Hill forgot that ‘Poatan’ had run through ‘The Last Stylebender’ three times before that.

Returning to the Octagon in Las Vegas, Alex Pereira added another name to his hit list and another highlight to his reel, dispatching Hill in the opening round of their UFC 300 headliner with one very nasty uppercut. Adesanya, who was front row and center for the festivities, looked non-too happy to see his friend lying on the canvas courtesy of his greatest rival.

Adesanya knows exactly how Jamahal Hill felt, having been personally knocked out by Alex Pereira on two separate occasions — the first coming under the GLORY Kickboxing banner in 2017.

‘Stylebender’ thought the days of getting his ass handed to him by ‘Poatan’ were over once he made the move from kickboxing to MMA. Five years later, a ghost from his past showed up inside the Octagon at UFC 281 and handed the New Zealander another brutal knockout, taking his UFC middleweight crown in the process.

Israel Adesanya did score a bit of redemption at UFC 287, stopping Pereira in the second round with a counter-right to reclaim the middleweight crown, moving his record to 1-3 against the Brazilian bruiser.

Jon Jones reacts to Alex Pereira's vicious First-Round KO of Jamahal Hill at UFC 300: 'My goodness'

Jon Jones was left stunned by Alex Pereira’s viral first-round finish of Jamahal Hill.

Stepping into the spotlight at the promotion’s landmark UFC 300 card in Las Vegas, ‘Poatan’ put his light heavyweight title on the line for the first time against a former champion hellbent on reclaiming the crown he’d never lost. Jamahal Hill talked a big game going into their massive 205-pound headliner, but it took Pereira a little over three minutes to let his fists do all the talking for him.

Waving off referee Herb Dean seconds after absorbing a low blow, Pereira blasted Hill with a nasty left uppercut that instantly put ‘Sweet Dreams’ to sleep. Hill came to long enough to see a flurry of fists flying his way until Dean stepped in, bringing a stop to the bout in the opening round.

Reactions to the insane knockout flooded social media with some of MMA’s biggest stars joining in — including reigning undisputed UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who shared his two-work take on the epic finish.

“My goodness,” Jones wrote on X.

is Jon jones vs. Alex pereira possible?

Immediately following the contest, Alex Pereira called for a quick turnaround, requesting to challenge interim heavyweight titleholder Tom Aspinall at UFC 301 on May 4.

“I want to keep continuing to defend this belt,” Pereira said. “I talked a lot about fighting in Brazil if I won this fight. I won this fight. I’m not hurt. Nothing happened. I know there needs to be a lot of promotion behind a fight, but I want to have a fight at heavyweight.”

It’s unlikely that Pereira vs. Aspinall will happen — at least on such short notice — but if Pereira likes the idea of a move to heavyweight more than defending his 205-pound title against the next man in line, who are we to argue? Especially when the next man up for ‘Poatan’ is most likely Russian standout Magomed Ankalaev.

Who knows… If the UFC grants Pereria his wish, perhaps we could one day see ‘Poatan’ square off with Jon Jones, though that’s probably just wishful thinking.

Ex-champion Amanda Nunes frustrated by Kayla Harrison’s UFC 300 snub

Kayla Harrison scored a huge win over Holly Holm in her Octagon debut.

Going into her UFC 300 clash with ‘The Preacher’s Daughter,’ the two-time Olympic gold medalist was a sizeable -450 favorite — and for good reason. It took Harrison less than a round-and-a-half to finish Holm and establish herself as the next big thing in the women’s bantamweight division.

Kayla Harrison vs. Holly Holm

Speaking with Joe Rogan immediately following her coming-out party in Las Vegas, Kayla Harrison declared that she would have UFC gold around her waist by the end of 2024.

Taking in the action was former two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes. ‘The Lioness’ took to X while appearing to wait for a callout from Harrison that would never come.

With Nunes walking away from the sport following her UFC 289 title defense against Irena Aldana, the bantamweight division has moved on from Nunes — except for Julianna Pena who’s still salty about missing out on the rubber match.

The Path to Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes is Clear

Currently, UFC veteran Raquel Pennington is holding down the division as the reigning bantamweight champ. She is expected to square off with ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ later this year with the winner presumably squaring off with Kayla Harrison next.

If Harrison goes on to win the title, a fight with the returning Amanda Nunes seems to be the next logical step.

Amanda Nunes is largely considered to be the greatest female fighter in mixed martial arts history, having won both the bantamweight and featherweight world titles during her decade-long run in the Octagon. Her most notable victory undoubtedly came against Cris Cyborg — the only other female fighter who could potentially top her in the great GOAT debate.

She also holds two wins over former flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko and a slew of current or former champions, including Julianna Pena, Raquel Pennington, Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Germaine de Randamie.
