UFC 300's Justin Gaethje snaps back at 'Fat' Jorge Masivdal over BMF title dig: 'He is so irrelevant'

Justin Gaethje has no interest in listening to anything Jorge Masvidal has to say — particularly when it comes to the BMF title.

On Saturday night (April 13), Gaethje will return to the Octagon as part of a loaded UFC 300 card in Las Vegas. There, the UFC’s baddest motherf*cker will put his bragging rights belt on the line against Dana White’s all-time favorite featherweight, Max Holloway.

Upon hearing news of the clash between Gaethje and Holloway, Masvidal — the promotion’s first-ever BMF titleholder — suggested that the UFC book a unification match of sorts between himself and Gaethje. When ‘The Highlight’ promptly shot down the idea, ‘Gamebred’ snapped back, threatening to break the lightweight’s orbital.

“If you put BMF against BMF, if you put me against Gaethje in there, I would break his f*cking eye orbital, and I would f*cking chop him up,” Masvidal said in an exclusive interview with LowKick MMA.

Justin Gaethje slams Jorge Masvidal in scathing response

Earlier this week, UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier caught up with Gaethje ahead of his BMF title tilt with Holloway. Asked about Masvidal’s comments, ‘The Highlight’ didn’t hold anything back in his response.

“The only orbital he got broken is his against Kamaru [Usman] and I loved to see it,” Gaethje said. “He f*cking cheap-shotted Colby Covington and didn’t break his orbital.”

“Nothing was more special than seeing all that mist come off his face when f*cking Kamaru put a hole through it,” he added.

He’s fat as f*ck. I fight at 155 pounds, so he can f*ck off.”

Masvidal won the BMF belt at UFC 244, defeating Nate Diaz via a doctor’s stoppage TKO following the third round. ‘Gamebred’ would go on to lose his next four fights before exiting the promotion to pursue a career in boxing.

On Saturday, June 1, Masvidal will run it back with Diaz inside the squared circle at a pay-per-view event in Inglewood, Cali.

Alex Pereira reveals stunning weight gain ahead of light heavyweight headliner at UFC 300

Less than 24 hours after weighing in at the 205-pound limit for his light heavyweight title fight against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, Alex Pereira is looking more like a heavyweight.

In a video initially shared on Pereira’s Instagram account, ‘Poatan’ stepped on the scale to reveal that in just a few short hours, he had gone from 205 pounds to a whopping 232 pounds. For comparison, former two-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic weighed in at 234 pounds for his last fight against Francis Ngannou.

It’s crazy to think that at one point, Alex Pereira was cutting down to middleweight and still competing at the highest level.

Alex Pereira Tops a historic night of fights in ‘sin city’

Just seven fights into his Octagon career, Pereira is set to headline the biggest card in UFC history. Emanating from the familiar confines of T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the promotion’s landmark event will host 12 current or former champions, all of whom made weight without issue on Friday morning.

In the co-main event of the evening, reigning strawweight world champion Zhang Weili puts her title on the line in an all-Chinese clash with the division’s top-ranked contender Yan Xiaonan.

Rounding out the main card will be a BMF title fight that has “the people’s main event” written all over it. Justin Gaethje puts his bragging rights belt up for grabs against Dana White’s all-time favorite featherweight, Max Holloway.

Conor McGregor has announced that his long-awaited fight with Michael Chandler will go down on Saturday, June 29. Sure, he may have done it on Instagram while squaring off with a chubby Teletubby in place of the former Bellator MMA champion, but still…

Conor McGregor

McGregor’s return to the Octagon has been relentlessly teased for over a year, but fight fans are hoping all the he said/she said comes to an end on Saturday night when the promotion presents its mega-sized UFC 300 card in Las Vegas.

Earlier this week, rumors began circulating that the UFC would announce McGregor vs. Chandler at the UFC 300 press conference on Thursday night. When that moment never came, pundits started convincing themselves that all the speculation surrounding McGregor’s “greatest comeback in combat sports history” would come to an end at this weekend’s landmark event in Sin City.

Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler stick by their June 29 Date – Dana White, not so much

Both Chandler and McGregor appear to be on the same page, frequently citing International Fight Week as the setting for their epic encounter. Dana White, on the other hand, has been dismissive of their statements, suggesting that ‘Mystic Mac’ would come back in September — at the earliest.

Has Dana White been toying with us about Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler

That seemingly changed when the UFC CEO dropped a video on Instagram, teasing an announcement regarding the Irish megastar. Let’s hope all the drama and uncertainty comes to an end this weekend. If not, it’s going to be a long summer.

Also, the yellow Teletubby is Laa-Laa, in case anyone is curious.

UFC unveils new sleek 3EIGHT/5EIGHT glove design, set to debut on June 1

Hours before the UFC’s biggest event of all time, the promotion unveiled a brand new glove design that has fans hoping — and praying — that the epidemic of eye pokes inside the Octagon is over.

On Saturday, June 1, the new gloves, named the 3Eight and 5Eight, will make their official debut at UFC 302 when the promotion returns to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

According to the official UFC website, “The gloves were designed based on significant feedback from athletes and coaches, as well as scientific data and engineering principles, to ensure that they improved the fit, function, and technology of the gloves that fighters wear in the Octagon.”

Aside from sporting a more ergonomic design for maximum comfort and a secure fit, each pair will include a data chip inserted in the glove “that will allow UFC to identify a pair of gloves to a fighter and a specific fight, authenticating the gloves as fight worn.”

The gloves also feature a new wristband locking system to remove the space that could allow an opponent to grab a glove during grappling exchanges.

The new gloves will come in multiple colors with championship bouts featuring the gold set while non-title fights will see fighters dawn the more traditional black gloves.

There will also be blue gloves introduced for fighters competing on Dana White’s Contender Series along with a red set that will be utilized for miscellaneous events i.e. Road to UFC.

UFC champ Sean O'Malley responds to criticism from Deiveson Figueiredo with homophobic slur

‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley had an interesting response to comments recently made about him by former flyweight titleholder Deiveson Figueiredo.

On Saturday (April 13), Figueiredo will make his sophomore appearance in the bantamweight division, leading off UFC 300 opposite former champ Cody Garbrandt at T-Mobile Arena.

Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt

Ahead of his highly anticipated return to the Octagon, ‘Deus da Guerra’ suggested during a recent interview that O’Malley wouldn’t make it past his next bantamweight title challenger, Merab Dvalishvili.

“I think this fight between Merab and Sean O’Malley won’t happen,” Figueredo said on MMA Fighting’s Trocação Franca podcast.” In my opinion, I think [O’Malley] is a guy who can’t defend his belt again. If I win this fight [at UFC 300] then there is a possible fight for the belt right? I really want to fight for the belt against Merab. I would give him a very dangerous fight.”

Getting wind of Figueredo’s comment, Sean O’Malley responded in a way that left a lot of fight fans scratching their head.

Sean O'Malley

“Davison fagirito scared of me,” O’Malley wrote in a since-deleted post on X.

Looking past the misspelling of Figueiredo’s name, the blatantly homophobic slur used in reference to the Brazilian was not a particularly good look — which is probably why ‘Sugar’ was quick to delete the comment — especially after O’Malley was recently caught on camera using an antisemitic remark.

Sean O’Malley teasing a September return at The Sphere

O’Malley has not locked in a date for his expected title clash with Merab Dvalishvili, though the Helena, Montana native recently teased a return in September, presumably when the promotion makes its debut inside The Sphere in Las Vegas for UFC 306.

As for Deiveson Figueiredo, the ex-flyweight fought his way into the bantamweight top 10 with a big win over Rob Font in his divisional debut. With a win over Cody Garbrandt at UFC 300, he could find himself next in line for a shot at the 135-pound crown.
