Paul Felder targeted to make return at UFC 300 next year

Former lightweight contender, Paul Felder is reportedly expected to make his long-rumored return to the Octagon at UFC 300 next year, as speculation continues to mount regarding a would-be four-year retirement snapping return to combat sports competition.

Felder, 39, has been sidelined from active competition since he featured atop a UFC Apex facility card against former undisputed lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos back in November 2020, suffering a one-sided split decision loss to the Brazilian in a short-notice main event clash.

The defeat came as Philadelphia native, Paul Felder’s second on the bounce, following a close, debated split decision loss to Dan Hooker in a UFC Fight Night Auckland headliner back in February of that year as the pair turned in a Fight of the Night viewing.

And calling time on his storied career in the year following his subsequent final outing against dos Anjos, Felder has since switched his focus to color-commentary and analyst work, featuring on countless ‘Fight Night’ billed cards as well as pay-per-view events for the UFC.

However, earlier this summer, reports appeared to suggest that Felder was considering a return to the sport, with the Roufusport staple confirming he had returned to the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) testing pool, ahead of a potential return to the sport.

“I have no idea,’ Paul Felder said. “I rolled with Michael (Chiesa) today. Honest to God, it blew up on social. I’m back training, I’m enjoying MMA again.”

“For all the people that think I need a complete both hip replacements, I have bad hips there’s no secret about that. I’ve had bad hips for years, but I am back in the USADA testing pool. That’s exactly where I’m at now, but that is it. That is it. I did it just in case, I’m getting old and there might be some old dudes out there that might want to dust it up in six months. Other than that, I have no idea. I’m enjoying training.”

Paul Felder targeted to make a return to the Octagon at UFC 300 next year

And according to reports earlier this week from The Schmo, Felder is currently targeted to make a return to the Octagon at UFC 300 in the opening quarter of next year, with an opponent or weight class for the former’s return still yet to be disclosed.

Without a victory since a 2019 appearance in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Felder landed a close split decision win over Edson Barboza in the pair’s lightweight rematch.

While McGregor has not fought actively for some time now, it has not stopped him from calling out countless fighters. This time it was the shot of Alexander Volkanovski, who would be on the receiving end of one of the Irishman’s classic social media message.

“Ask my bollox that little sausage volkonovski is no way p4p 1,” McGregor wrote. “Silly. That’s quick work for me. 100% accuracy work. Readable. Hittable. Hurtable. I like he has this title tho we should fight at some stage so the FW goats will have all faced off and let there be no debate.”

Volkanovski would quickly respond to the 35-year-old, calling for the showdown to take place on the upcoming UFC 300 card.

Alexander Volkanovski talks Conor McGregor fight

Talking on The MMA Fan Podcast, Volkanovski spoke about the matchup against McGregor and how he compares to him in terms of featherweight status.

It’s pretty easy for me in saying Conor McGregor because he was in featherweight,” Volkanovski said. “He was a featherweight. We’ve got to remember the champions I’ve beat. I’ve beaten every other champion in the featherweight division.

“The only champ I haven’t fought in the featherweight division is Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor in his prime in featherweight division would obviously be the all-time – I’m sure everyone would want to see that right now. If we could make that happen right now, somehow get prime Conor vs. prime Volk, it would be pretty special.” (H/T MMA Mania)

Volkanovski is set to take on Ilia Topuria as his next defence of the 145lb crown, while McGregor is ‘supposed’ to be taking on Michael Chandler next but the entire situation is very unclear.

Alexander Volkanovski calls for UFC 300 title rematch with Islam Makhachev that makes sense

Undisputed featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski may be expected to continue at 145lbs for the foreseeable future, with a title defense against Ilia Topuria, however, the Australian is already weighing up a potential lightweight return against Islam Makhachev in a title rematch proposal for UFC 300 next year.

Volkanovski, the current number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter under the UFC banner alongside incumbent heavyweight champion, Jon Jones – most recently headlined UFC 290 back in July during International Fight Week, successfully unifying the titles in a TKO victory over then-interim champion, Yair Rodríguez.

Yet to be booked to make his return to the Octagon in the time since, Volkanovski has been pegged to fight Georgian contender, Topuria in his comeback, with the latter continuing his winning spree with a headlining win over Josh Emmett earlier this summer in dominant fashion.

Alexander Volkanovski eyes UFC 300 title re-run with Islam Makhachev

However, with eyes fixed on next month’s UFC 294 title fight rematch between Makhachev and Brazilian favorite, Charles Oliveira, Volkanovski has staked his claim for his own rematch with the Russian, potentially atop a UFC 300 card next year.

“That makes a lot of sense,” Alexander Volkanovski told assembled media during UFC 293. “Yeah, for sure. I think that it’ll be great, especially if we get my hand raised for that one. UFC 300 would be perfect, But again, we’ll see what we can do but I think that’s one of the bigger fights that we can make.”

“I truly do believe that people want to see it again,” Alexander Volkanovski explained. “It’s very competitive and I guarantee you I’ll get it done next time.”

Initially sharing the Octagon back in February in the main event of UFC 284 in Perth, Australia, Volkanovski suffered his first promotional loss in a lightweight title pursuit against Makhachev, dropping a close decision loss.

Ronda Rousey turned down more money than God to make return at UFC 300

Inaugural bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey is alleged to have turned down a more-than lucrative offer to make a return to mixed martial arts at UFC 300 next year, as per former promomtional heavyweight contender, Brendan Schaub.

Rousey, a former undisputed bantamweight champion under the banner of the UFC, retired from mixed martial arts competition in 2017, after suffering her second consecutive loss in a stunning opening round TKO loss to former two-weight champion, Amanda Nunes.

In the time since, the future Hall of Fame inductee has switched her focus to professional wrestling, plying her trade under the banner of the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

However, ahead of the next edition of flagship event, WrestleMania next year, Rousey, who has struck gold under the promotional banner, has reportedly informed the WWE of a “hard out” date to end her tenure in professional wrestling.

As a result, the Riverside native has been linked with a stunning return to combat sports competition, in the form of a UFC comeback, however, those suggestions, particularly of a career-first featherweight walk, have been shot down by promotional boss, Dana White.

“There’s no shot,” Dana White told said. “She accomplished everything she set out to do.”

“Her dream was to win a UFC championship then win a WWE championship,” White explained. “And she’s done it. Now, she’s starting a family. Ronda has made so much money and she’s still making a lot of money in sponsorships.”

Ronda Rousey alleged to have rejected massive offer to make UFC comeback

However, according to the above-mentioned, Schaub, he has it on good authority that the UFC failed in a bid to land Rousey for a monumental UFC 300 next year, despite putting forward a lucrative deal.

“I’ll say this, I have it on good authority they [the UFC] offered Ronda Rousey more money than you can imagine to come abc, and she said no,” Brendan Schaub said on his podcast.

“Maybe Dana (White) didn’t do the deal, I’m not saying Dana offered it,” Schaub explained. “From what I know, they offered her more money than God and she was like, ‘I’m good.’ Ronda’s very smart, has other businesses, her farms, her house. She doesn’t need to do any of it. She said no.”

Dana White addresses potential return of former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar at UFC 300

Don’t expect to see former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar make a surprise comeback at the promotion’s 300th premium event next year.

No official details surrounding UFC 300 have been released as of yet, but the event, which is projected to go down sometime in March or April of 2024, is expected to be stacked with top-tier talent and maybe even a surprise or two. Recent rumors have suggested that women’s mixed martial arts pioneer ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey could once again strap on the four-ounce gloves after reportedly completing her obligations with WWE in August.

White has already attempted to debunk rumors of a Rousey resurgence, but what about the beast incarnate, Brock Lesnar?

“I think Brock’s done,” Dana White told Sports Illustrated. “I don’t think he ever comes back.”

Brock Lesnar’s Last Appearance in the Octagon Was the Cause of Much Controversy

Brock Lesnar last competed for the promotion at UFC 200, and while the WWE Superstar came out on top in his heavyweight scrap with former title challenger Mark Hunt, the fight ended up proving to be a much bigger headache for the promotion than it was probably worth. Following the contest, it was revealed that Lesnar had tested positive for a banned substance prior to the event.

Mark Hunt accused the UFC of intentionally hiding the results of the test until after the event, prompting the New Zealander to file a lawsuit against the promotion.

Lesnar, 46, has likely put his days in the fight game behind him, but after competing at both UFC 100 and UFC 200, fans would undoubtedly love to see the former champ make a comeback and keep his streak of milestone event appearances alive.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey may be ready to pack away her wrestling boots and once again strap on the four-ounce gloves for a return to the Octagon in 2024.

After years away from the MMA game, ‘Rowdy’ may be looking for a comeback as the UFC closes in on its 300th event next year. That is according to an anonymous source close to the current WWE Superstar. In an interview with DailyMail, the source claims that Rousey is looking to finish up her commitments with the sports entertainment behemoth and is strongly considering a UFC return.

“She just had a match at Summerslam and is looking to wind down her time and commitments with the WWE and she is now focusing on potentially making a run to have one last fight in the UFC and compete at UFC 300 when that presents itself sometime next year,” the source said.

They also added that Ronda Rousey is “at a current crossroads in her life and career as she is looking to see what she might want to do next.

Ronda Rousey Reportedly Ready to Add Another Addition to Her Family

Ronda Rousey has not competed inside the Octagon since suffering back-to-back knockout losses against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. Prior to that, ‘Rowdy’ won 12 straight, all by way of finish with 11 coming in the opening round. After her first-round loss to the ‘Lioness’ at UFC 207, Rousey walked away from the sport and ultimately signed with WWE shortly after.

In 2021, Ronda Rousey gave birth to her first child, La’akea Makalapuaokalanip? Browne, with husband and former UFC standout Travis Browne. Anyone who follows her on social media knows how important being a mom is to the former bantamweight world champion. So much so that she is reportedly interested in adding another bundle of joy to her household.

“She really wants to do it all [career-wise], but in the next few months don’t be caught off guard that she is having another kid because that is something she feels is one of the most important things to happen for her again,” the source added.

Dana White recently debunked Ronda Rousey’s rumored return for UFC 300 next year, but it wouldn’t be the first time the UFC President has flat-out lied to protect some of the promotion’s impending surprises. And with Amanda Nunes no longer terrorizing the bantamweight division, there is no better time for ‘Rowdy’ to step back into the cage.
