“He’s (Conor McGregor) big nowadays,” Sean O’Malley said during an appearance on Raw Talk. “I’m pretty realistic when it comes to big guys. I’m like, okay, I’m a ‘35er. I stay in my lane and I do my thing. I could go up to ‘45 [pounds], I’d fight Volk (Alexander Volkanovski), I’d fight Max (Holloway), I’d fight Ilia (Topuria), but I stay in my lane.”

“Conor’s one of the only guys I would fight that I’m like that motherf*cker’s big,” Sean O’Malley explained. “I would just fight him at ‘55 [pounds]. First of all, it’s a huge payday, second of all, it’s Conor. That would be legendary. So, he’s one of the rare guys I would fight that are way out of my weight class.”

Amid continued links to a UFC 303 return at the end of June in a clash with the unbeaten, Ian Garry, former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington has instead switched lanes and now wants to fight surging contender, Belal Muhammad in a five round title eliminator.

Covington, a former interim welterweight gold holder and the current number four ranked division contender, has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 296 back in December of last year.

And amid calls from Portmarnock native, Garry that Covington is avoiding a clash with him – as recent at UFC 301 last weekend, the former has switched his focus to a fight with the above-mentioned, Muhammad.

“Maybe this kid (Belal) Muhammad, who’s been talking a lot,” Colby Covington told The Rush during a recent interview. “He’s up there in the rankings above me. So, I think if I beat that guy, it gets me right back to a title fight. I don’t know, anybody. I could fight Joe Schom off the street and I’m going to be get the same paycheck. It’s going to be a high-level fight. Every time I get on the mic you know I’m going to sell that sh*t to the moon.”

“In a five round fight – I would be super intrigued with that fight,” Colby Covington explained. ‘I always told them [the UFC] I want this guy in a main event. I don’t think he can last. His cardio doesn’t look that good. His last fight he fought Burns at 185 [pounds] on one weeks’ notice, and I thought Burns won the fight. He landed more strikes. …I think he’s going to get exposed soon. He doesn’t have good cardio, and he’s not as good as everybody thinks he is.”

“I think that if Conor (McGregor) comes back anything [the way] he was with his timing and rhythm – but with the injury that he had and this long of a layoff – and we are not getting any younger, either,” Dustin Poirier told MMA Fighting. “If he (McGregor) comes back similar to who he was before he left, I think he stops Michael Chandler. If Conor is who he was before the injury and stuff, I think two rounds. I think the fight is over in two rounds.”

Conor McGregor declares UFC 303 opponent Michael Chandler is not on his level: 'Not even close'

Conor McGregor is ready to show ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler that there are levels to the fight game. More importantly, the Irishman wants to make it clear that the former Bellator MMA champion is nowhere near his.

After nearly three years on the shelf following a devastating leg injury in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, McGregor will return to the Octagon on Saturday, June 29 for a main event clash with Chandler as part of this year’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

With their highly anticipated clash less than two months away, you can expect the trash talk between McGregor and Chandler to start picking up. Mystic Mac’ got things rolling on Monday, stating that at UFC 303, he will show the world what it looks like to compete at the “very top” level.

Conor McGregor

“There is levels and in 7 weeks and 5 days you are gonna see the very, very top level,” McGregor wrote on X. “This next run is for the Clan!”

He quickly followed up that post with another specifically targeting his first opponent since July 2021.

“NOT ON MY LEVEL, NOT EVEN CLOSE,” McGregor added.

Can Conor McGregor recapture his past glory inside the octagon?

Conor McGregor’s rise up the featherweight ranks was truly a sight to behold. Going through a slew of tough competition, including Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier, and Chad Mendes, the Irishman delivered a highlight that will stand the test of time when he KO’d 145-pound GOAT Jose Aldo a mere 13 seconds into their UFC 194 headliner.

Less than a year later, he finished Eddie Alvarez in round two to win the lightweight title, becoming the UFC’s first-ever simultaneous two-division champion.

Unfortunately, McGregor’s meteoric rise to fame and fortune has already taken much of the blame for his abrupt downfall inside the Octagon. After cashing in his chips to secure a crossover boxing match against Floyd Mayweather in 2017, McGregor has only won one fight since his title-winning performance against Alvarez at UFC 205.

Of course, McGregor is doing just fine away from the fight game. Earlier this year he starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in a remake of the 1989 action classic Road House which turned out to be a massive hit for Amazon Studios.

McGregor also became a part owner in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, adding yet another massive enterprise to his growing portfolio.
