Tom Aspinall stops Curtis Blaydes with lightning fast first round KO win - UFC 304 Highlights

Avenging his sole Octagon loss tonight in the co-main event of UFC 304, interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall makes lightwork of perennial contender, Curtis Blaydes in their title rematch — stopping the Illinois native with a first round TKO win via ground strikes in Manchester.

Aspinall, the current interim heavyweight titleholder, won his spoils back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, running through Russian contender, Sergei Pavlovich with another dominant opening round knockout win in New York.

And drawing heavyweight staple, Blaydes tonight after suffering a debilitating knee injury — resulting in a TKO loss to the former two years ago, Tom Aspinall became the first fighter since Renan Barao to successfully retain an interim crown.

Laying waste to Blaydes inside just a single minute in tonight’s co-headliner at UFC 304, Atherton native, Aspinall winged in with a looping straight shot — felling Blaydes to his back on the canvas, before swarming and leaping on the former, forcing him to belly out and landing a TKO victory.

And in the immediate aftermath of his one-sided stoppage win, Aspinall once more called for a title unification pairing against fellow heavyweight gold holder, Jon Jones — who is expected to take on Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 309 later this year.

There can be no question that Paddy Pimblett is legit now, as he will have a ranking next to his name after his win over King Green (formerly Bobby Green) at UFC 304.

Green looked to use the leg kicks and set things up early, but he found himself unable to establish the jab.

In a move that baffled people late in the first round, Green shot in for a takedown. Pimblett easily countered it and looked for a guillotine before transitioning into a triangle choke. Pimblett sunk in the triangle in tight, and as he looked to turn it into a triangle armbar, it could be seen that Green was out cold, forcing the referee to stop the fight.

Following the fight, Pimblett used the opportunity to call out Renato Moicano.

Green has now lost two of his last three, though he has still won three of his last six.

After dispatching his first five opponents inside the Octagon, Paddy Pimblett looked to punch his ticket to the lightweight top 15 with a win over division staple King Green at UFC 304 in Manchester.

The first couple minutes of their scrap saw Pimblett pepper his opponent with a series of well-timed calf kicks. Unable to find his way inside, Green opted to shoot it on one of the low leg attacks, but immediately found himself fighting off an early guillotine choke attempt.

Green escaped, but immediately put himself in another compromising position, allowing Pimblett to lock in a triangle choke. Cinching it in, Green inevitably went unconscious, forcing the referee to step in and call for the stoppage just past the three-minute mark of the first round.

Arnold Allen stops losing skid in decision win over Giga Chikadze - UFC 304 Highlights

Perennial featherweight contender, Arnold Allen has snapped his two-fight losing run tonight to open the main card of UFC 304 in Manchester, landing a unanimous decision win over the returning Georgian kickboxing talent, Giga Chikadze.

Allen, a native of Ipswich, made his return tonight on the main card of UFC 304, attempting to snap a two-fight losing run after back-to-back high-profile decision losses against former undisputed featherweight champion, Max Holloway, and surging challenger, Movsar Evloev.

And getting out of the gates slower than striking challenge, Chikadze tonight, Allen eventually turned pressure into striking openings and counters for the second and third rounds — managing to stifle the former’s ability to get off with his biggest strikes after an impressive start to their pairing.

Landing a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) victory against Chikadze, British featherweight talent, Allen lamented failed pairings with the likes of former interim titleholder, Yair Rodriguez, as well as multi-time title challenger, Brian Ortega, however, plotted his next step at 145lbs.

Nathaniel Wood pummels Daniel Pineda, earns unanimous decision victory - UFC 304 Highlights

After seeing his three-fight win streak snapped in his last outing against Muhammad Mokaev, Nathaniel Wood returned to the Octagon on Saturday night for a scrap with Texas native Daniel Pineda at UFC 304.

It didn’t take long for Pineda to get his grappling going, shooting in early and pressing Wood against the cage wall within 30 seconds. Wood was able to break the grip and separate himself from Pineda, returning to the center of the Octagon. Near the 1:40 mark, Wood landed a front snap kick to the solar plexus of Pineda, folding him. Wood moved in and landed a few strikes, but ultimately ended up taking Pineda to the mat.

They remained grounded for the remainder of the round, but Pineda managed to reverse the position and land some solid ground-and-pound strikes just before the bell.

After an early onslaught from Wood in the second, Pineda appeared to have some trouble with his right eye, constantly wiping at it. Still, that didn’t stop him from throwing some wild hooks as Wood attempted to close the distance.

With a minute to go in the round, Wood landed a nasty left hook that dropped Pineda, but as he did in the first, Wood followed him down to the mat, content to hold position rather than forcing his compromised opponent back up.

A majority of the third round was contested on the canvas with Wood initiating the grappling. However, it was Pineda who turned the tables, gaining top control and fishing for a submission. Wood defended well, but offered little in the way of resistance, likely content to ride out the fight from his back and walk away with a victory.

Official Result: Nathaniel Wood def. Daniel Pineda via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-28)
