Leon Edwards reveals extra steps has taken to adjust to the late start time of UFC 304

The UFC is set to make it’s awaited return to the United Kingdom on July 27. UFC 304 will see Edwards defend his title 170lbs title against Belal Muhammad in the main event. Tom Aspinall will put his interim heavyweight championship on the line against Curtis Blaydes. Both matchups will be rematches.

Other talent such as Paddy Pimblett, Muhammad Mokaev and Arnold Allen will also feature, UK fans should be in store for a great night. However, not only are fans being charged extortionate prices, but the card will also start on U.S. time. This means that the main event will begin around 5 am UK time.

Not only will this impact fans, but also many of the athletes on the card who are based in Europe. Fighters will have to adjust in their preparations to best deal with the anti-social hours.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Leon Edwards would even reveal that he has totally changed training schedule and has even employed asleep coach.

“I’ve brought in a specialist in sleep, and they’ve given me a plan of how it will work,Edwards explained. I thought I’d have to train at 5 a.m. straight away from the morning, but they said basically ‘Six weeks out we’ll start switching your body clock and training’.”

So, my evening session will now become my first session, so at 5pm I’ll do my first session and then I’ll train again at midnight. And then each week I’ll move both sessions forward an hour to adjust to the time, so I’ll sleep later and train later.”

While some aspects of the event are far from perfect, it is hard to complain about the card itself. It is packed with UK and Ireland-based talent from top to bottom.

Finally slated to make his return this summer, Leon Edwards has opened as a sizeable betting favorite to successfully defend his undisputed welterweight crown in his rematch with the surging, Belal Muhammad atop UFC 304 in July.

Edwards, the incumbent welterweight champion, is set to return to the Octagon at the end of July this summer, taking on Illinois contender, Muhammad in the pair’s title re-run – in the main event of UFC 304 in Manchester.

Sidelined since December of last year, Birmingham native, Edwards most recently recorded his second straight successful defense of his title with a unanimous decision shutout win over Colby Covington at UFC 296

And with betting lines now set for UFC 304 in July, welterweight king, Edwards has opened as a -218 favorite to dispatch the +180 underdog, Muhammad in the pair’s championship rematch this summer.

First squaring off at UFC Vegas 21 three years ago in a main event slot, then-surging contender, Leon Edwards fought Muhammad to an eventual third round official ‘No Contest’ – forcing the latter out of their main event bout after landing an inadvertent eye poke.

Working his way back to top contention with a stunning unbeaten streak since, Muhammad most recently took out prior title challenger, Gilbert Burns back in May of last year in a short-notice five round decision win, earning himself the number two rank at 170 pounds.

And remaining supremely confident of definitively dispatching Muhammad this time around at UFC 304 in the summer, Team Renegade BJJ & MMA stalwart, Edwards has already played up the possibility of facing off with UFC 303 headliner, Conor McGregor in a historic title fight at Madison Square Garden later this annum.

“That’d be good, that’d be good, you know,” Leon Edwards told of a fight with Conor McGregor. “It would be good to give him the opportunity – yeah, 100 percent, why not? I feel like let’s give him the opportunity to become [a] three-division world champion, [and] give me an opportunity to take out a guy like Conor (McGregor). You know, New York – that would be perfect.”

“That is the fight, you know,” Leon Edwards explained. “He goes out there and takes out Michael (Chandler), I take out ‘No One Remembers His Name’ and we’ll go from there. We’ll go to New York – MSG, let’s go. That’s the fight. That’s the fight, that’s the fight, I feel. You know, two of us have business to take care of. That’s the fight, that needs to happen. It should happen.”

Alongside his return to the U.K. to defend his title on home soil again, Edwards is joined by fellow British star, Tom Aspinall who himself rematches Curtis Blaydes in a co-main event slot, putting his much-discussed interim heavyweight title on the line at the Co-op Live Arena.

Who wins at UFC 304: Leon Edwards or Belal Muhammad?

Belal Muhammad plans to taunt Leon Edwards’ corner before finishing him in the 2nd round at UFC 304

"The UFC [is] trying to hype up a guy, that doesn't hype up himself, right? Nobody hears about Leon. Leon doesn't talk. He comes on a podcast once every three months and he like whispers, nobody can understand what he is saying. He looks stupid. He doesn't have confidence, he is awkward, he is weird. I'm gonna to do everyone a favor on July 27th. After I beat him we are going to be done. We won't have to hear about him no more. Belal Muhammad offered up a rather bold and incredibly detailed prediction for his first UFC title fight.

Riding a nine-fight win streak dating back more than five years, Muhammad will finally get a chance to challenge for championship gold when he headlines UFC 304 on Saturday, July 27. Stepping into the main event spotlight, ‘Remember The Name’ will go toe-to-toe with reigning and defending welterweight titleholder Leon Edwards in the champ’s home country.

Belal Muhammad

News of the bout came with little fanfare as both Edwards and Muhammad are notorious point fighters with 28 decision victories between them.

Attempting to create a bit of hype for their 170-pound title tilt, Belal Muhammad delivered a very elaborate prediction for his fight with ‘Rocky’ while speaking with Farah Hannoun.

“I think that I’m gonna rock him really early and then I’m gonna take him down. I could finish him with a TKO, but I’m just gonna let him back up,” Muhammad said in an interview with MMA Junkie. “Then I’m gonna look to his coach and I’m gonna tell his coach, ‘Yo, give him some motivational words. Let him man up, hurry up.’

His coach is going to look at me and he’s gonna be like, ‘I don’t know what to tell him,’ and then I’m just gonna hit him again. Then I’m gonna say, ‘Say something to him.’ Then I’m gonna hit him again and then I’m gonna get him in a rear naked choke probably in the first round and then right before he’s about to tap, I’m gonna let him go. I’m gonna let him breathe a little bit, go to his corner, and hopefully his coach gives him some better in advance.”

“In the second round, I’m gonna take him down again and start dominating him again. Hitting him, elbowing him. This time, I’m gonna look to his brother like, ‘Bro, you’re not gonna jump in for your brother? You’re not gonna help your brother out?’ He’s gonna look at me, he’s gonna curse and swear at me and I’m just gonna be smiling. Then I’m gonna look at Leon and say, ‘Alright, I’m done with you,’ and finish him in the second round.

Can’t wait to see that show up under the fight props on DraftKings.

Belal Muhammad Promises to do everyone a favor by beating Leon Edwards

That would certainly be an impressive performance for Muhammad, and one that would make fans ‘Remember The Name’ for years to come. But with 17 decisions against just six finishes in his mixed martial arts career, we’ll just stick with our bet on the fight going the distance.

Belal Muhammad

Still, you have to respect Muhammad’s willingness to talk some trash and try to create hype for the much-maligned main event. We know Leon Edwards sure won’t.

“The UFC [is] trying to hype up a guy, that doesn’t hype up himself, right? Nobody hears about Leon,” Muhammad added. “Leon doesn’t talk. He comes on a podcast once every three months and he like whispers, nobody can understand what he is saying. He looks stupid. He doesn’t have confidence, he is awkward, he is weird. I’m gonna to do everyone a favor on July 27th.

After I beat him we are going to be done. We won’t have to hear about him no more. The UFC doesn’t have to promote him no more because he is not going to be a champion.”

Interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall has again needled at former gold holder, Ciryl Gane following a failed title clash at UFC 304 later this summer, questioning how the Frenchman would reportedly turn down a clash in favor of starring in an upcoming film.

Aspinall, the current interim heavyweight champion, is slated to co-headline UFC 304 at the end of July, taking on perennial contender, Curtis Blaydes in a rematch clash – attempting to follow in the footsteps of Renan Barao and successfully defend an interim title.

And constantly linked with a showdown against former interim champion Gane this year – particularly in a return to Manchester at UFC 304, reports emerged prior to his booking with Blaydes, that Aspinall’s quest for a clash with the former was put on ice with Gane preparing to take part in an upcoming film

Tom Aspinall pokes fun at Ciryl Gane

Poking fun at Gane’s skirting of an interim title clash, Aspinall starred in a video for TNT Sports ahead of his return against Blaydes, questioning he who would turn down a title fight with him in favor of shooting a movie – needling the Frenchman once more.

Himself sidelined from the Octagon since he returned to winning-ways at UFC Fight Night Paris back in September of last year, Gane landed an eventual second round TKO win over common-foe, Serghei Spivac.

Landing the number two rank at heavyweight as a result, Gane, who failed in his attempt to land the vacant heavyweight championship in March of last year, dropped a first round guillotine choke. Gane has since confirmed that he will return in another edition of UFC Paris later this year in his return to active competition.

Although Muhammad is one of the top fighters in the world, he doesn’t get a ton of support from the average UFC fan, which he doesn’t seem to care about.

“Being at [WWE] events is funner,” Belal Muhammad said on the Money Loyalty Respect podcast. “It’s like the complete opposite of UFC because those people are so into it. No matter what you’re doing, like, you could literally throw a punch or run into the ropes and the fans are going crazy no matter what, because they’re real, true, fans…

“UFC fans, it’s just like you said, 90% of them are just drunks that don’t care about anybody else unless they’re bleeding and standing in front of each other just banging it out … A lot of these people are just waiting for that viral moment, that viral knockout, that viral power slap or something nowadays that could go on TikTok,” Muhammad added.

Belal Muhammad holding himself to a higher standard

Part of the reason why Belal Muhammad doesn’t care about the support from MMA fans is because he holds himself to a higher standard than what they think about him.

Instead, he says he wants to set a good example for other Muslim kids on how to act, and not be disrespectful, which plenty of fighters are.

“I hold myself to higher standards because I do have those younger Muslim kids out there that are looking up to me,” he explained. “When they see me praying or something, it motivates them. And I’d rather have that more so than the drunk guy at the bar that’s, like, ‘Oh, Bully B’s a beast.’ Because those guys, once you lose, they’re gonna be the same ones that are saying, ‘Oh, you suck.’”

Paddy Pimblett laughs off threat of Bobby Green ahead of UFC 304 his chin is gone

Paddy Pimblett has taken shots at Bobby Green ahead of their fight at UFC 304 in Manchester, England.

After Green beat Jim Miller at UFC 300, he called out Pimblett, and the fight was made for UFC 304 on July 27. It’s a step up in competition for the Brit but he has confidence he will beat Green as he doesn’t the American has a chin anymore.

Paddy Pimblett

“He’s a proper tool, lad,” Paddy Pimblett told The Mac Life,. “He’s a proper weapon. The funniest one is he says he mentioned me. I didn’t mention you. You mentioned me first. So then I mentioned you, ya little sausage. Everyone talks about me so it’s all the same. He’s just a proper tool, lad. I think he’s a proper s—t human being. He’s just a proper wanker, lad. He’s saying that I mentioned him first, lad. He’s just lying. Why would I mention you? Why would I mention Bobby Green, lad?”

“He’s got very good striking,” Paddy Pimblett said. “He’s got good hands, but his chin’s gone after what happened with Jalin Turner. Jim Miller’s no knockout artist and he wobbled him once or twice in that fight on UFC 300. I think that is off Jalin Turner absolutely obliterating Bobby Green’s skull into the canvas.

“His striking’s very good, his takedown defense is very good and that’s what he’s gonna try and do. He’s gonna try and use his takedown defense to keep it on the feet ‘cause he thinks he’ll outstrike me. As I say, his chin’s gone so strike with me, we’ll see what happens. I can see me knocking him out. I can see me submitting him,” Pimblett concluded.

Although Pimblett thinks Green’s chin is gone, the American has only been knocked out five times in his career, but his last three losses have all come by TKO/KO.

Paddy Pimblett an underdog to Bobby Green at UFC 304

Even though Pimblett doesn’t think Green has a chin anymore, the Brit is the betting underdog at UFC 304.

Bobby Green UFC 300

Pimblett opened as a +210 underdog, while Green was a -250 favorite. At the opening odds, oddsmakers implied Pimblett has a 32.3% chance of winning the fight at UFC 304.

If Pimblett can KO Green at UFC 304 it would be a statement-making win for him, and it would put him in the rankings.
