Donald Cerrone got his career back on track over the weekend.

As seen in the main event of Sunday’s UFC Austin event that took place at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, the former lightweight title contender scored a first round TKO victory over up and coming contender Yancy Medeiros.

As a result of this win, Cerrone snapped a three fight losing streak. Even though he has been fighting as a welterweight over his past few fights, he is eyeing a change.

Whether that be going back to lightweight or jumping head first into a weight class if the MMA promotion decides to create a new one.

Over the past few years, weight cutting has been brought to light by fighters, commissions and media reporters.

As time rolls on, more and more people are talking about how there needs to be more weight classes in MMA just like boxing has.

UFC President Dana White has given in a bit on this discussion by adding new divisions over the past several years.

This leads us to Cerrone who wants to fight at a 165-pound weight division as he believes that would be perfect for him as the last five pounds to lose in order to make lightweight can be challenging for him.

However, he does have a name in mind that he would make him go down to lightweight once again.

“I can make 160 (pounds),” he said after stopping Medeiros(15-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) in an FS1-televised welterweight headliner at UFC Fight Night 126. “It’s that last little bit, I just don’t have the body fat, or I’m too lean.”

“Why not 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185 – let’s do them all,” he said (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie). “You’d see a lot of people make that (at 165). I’d be there.”

“Khabib (Nurmagomedov) wants some (expletive), I’ll make it,” Cerrone said.

Derrick Lewis is back in the win column after his latest fight.

As seen in the co-main event of Sunday’s UFC Austin event that took place at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, Lewis picked up a third round TKO victory over top prospect Marcin Tybura.

Following the fight, Lewis spoke with media reporters who were in attendance at the event.

He noted that although he won’t be choosy who his next opponent will be, he does have three names in mind.

Keep in mind that this will have to take place after he heals up from his latest comeback as he believes he broke his hand in the fight this past weekend.

“I think my hand is broken right now, but hopefully I can get Francis, Curtis Blaydes, (Fabricio) Werdum, Cain (Velasquez) – really anybody,” Lewis said to MMA Junkie. “Whoever signs the contract first, that’s who I’m willing to fight.”

“I’m going to try and rest up a little bit so I can be strong in the fourth round with (my wife),” he said. “I’m going to knock it out of the box. I heard they’re giving people $500,000 just to fight for the title,” he said. “So your boy had to step his game up.”

Lewis, who really turned it on in the second and third round of this co-main event bout, noted that prior to the finish, he didn’t want to tire out while attempting to finish the prospect.

“I didn’t want to gas myself out like you-know-who,” Lewis said. “In the third round, I wasn’t tired at all. It was shocking. In the third round, my ass is gas. But this fight right here, I really wasn’t tired. I still felt like I could throw heat.

“Before the fight even started, (my coaches) already knew what time I’m going to really turn it on.”

After three consecutive losses, Donald Cerrone needed a win versus Yancy Medeiros in the main event of tonight’s (Sun. Feb. 18, 2018) UFC Fight Night 126 from Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

If he did end that streak, it came with a rare reward as well – tying the record for most overall wins in the UFC.

The bout with the surging Medeiros promised fireworks, and it delivered just that from the outset. The Hawaiian pushed forward with some big shots early, appearing to outwork and out-land “Cowboy” in the early minutes of the first round. But Cerrone soon found Medeiros’ timing, landing some huge counter shots to switch the tide in his favor.

The switch was complete when he scored a missile of a right hand right on Medeiros’ chin, wobbling and dropping him for ‘Cowboy’ to pour on the ground stoppage enough for the referee to call off the action almost right when the first frame ended.
