Curtis Blaydes Explains Why He’ll ‘Most Likely’ Wrestle Francis Ngannou

UFC heavyweight prospect Curtis Blaydes explains why he’s ‘most likely’ going to wrestle Francis Ngannou at UFC Beijing this weekend.

This weekend (Sun. November 25, 2018) a massive heavyweight rematch will main event the UFC’s trip to Beijing, China.

Curtis Blaydes will face Francis Ngannou in the main event of the evening. This is quite an interesting match-up. Both men are massive contenders in the heavyweight division, with Blaydes who is on a tear at the moment with a five-fight win streak. Also, Ngannou is a former heavyweight title challenger, however, he is coming off back-to-back unanimous decision losses.

After Ngannou’s past two opponents were able to avoid his knockout power and go the distance with the Frenchman, a few holes have been exposed in “The Predator’s” game. He lacks in the wrestling department and also is suspect in regards to having the cardio to go five full rounds. Blaydes recently spoke to “The MMA Hour” to preview his fight with Ngannou.

“Razor” revealed that he’s “most likely” going to capitalize on Ngannou’s weaknesses and take the Frenchman down to the canvas (via MMA Mania):

“He didn’t have great conditioning then, he doesn’t have great conditioning now,” Blaydes said. “I know if I hold him down for two to three minutes, he’ll be gassed, he’ll be done for.

“That right there just lets me know I could have beat him back then with all the holes I have in my game and today I’m ten times better than the version of myself that debuted that day.

“I don’t have to wrestle, but most likely I will wrestle because I know that’s his weakest area of MMA.”

Ngannou and Blaydes initially fought each other back in April of 2016. Blaydes lost his UFC debut due to a second-round doctor stoppage. It remains the only blemish on “Razor’s” MMA record. He hopes to right that wrong in China this weekend.

‘DC’: Curtis Blaydes Is Close To Heavyweight Title Shot

UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier believes Curtis Blaydes is close to receiving a heavyweight title opportunity.

UFC “Champ Champ” Daniel Cormier seems to be very interested in this weekend’s (Sat. November 24, 2018) UFC Beijing main event.

Knockout artist Francis Ngannou will take on Curtis Blaydes in the show’s main event of the evening. This will be a rematch from the pair’s initial meeting back in April of 2016, which happened to be Blaydes’ UFC debut, where Ngannou won via doctor stoppage. Since losing to Ngannou, Blaydes has been on an absolute tear through the heavyweight division.

“Razor” has amassed a five-fight win streak, defeating all but two of those opponents via stoppage. Some of the names on Blaydes’ list of victims include UFC heavyweight veterans Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem. In Blaydes’ most recent Octagon appearance, he finished Overeem in devastating fashion, taking “The Reem” out in the third round with a barrage of elbows that busted open the Dutchman terribly.

Recently, the UFC’s YouTube channel released a video in which Cormier is previewing UFC Beijing. In regards to Blaydes, “DC” had some interesting comments about the 27-year-old. Cormier said that he believes Blaydes “is on the cusp of fighting for the heavyweight title.” However, should that be the case, it’s unlikely Blaydes shares the cage with Cormier.

Cormier is expected to fight one more time before officially retiring from MMA competition. That fight is expected to be against returning former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in early 2019. Check out Cormier’s comments in the video below:

Curtis Blaydes Questions Francis Ngannou’s Mindset Going Into UFC Beijing

Curtis Blaydes has some question about the mental state of Francis Ngannou heading into this rematch.

The post Curtis Blaydes Questions Francis Ngannou’s Mindset Going Into UFC Beijing appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Curtis Blaydes questions the mindset of Francis Ngannou heading into their rematch in the headliner of UFC Beijing. Their first fight saw Ngannou win by second-round TKO in 2016.

Coming into this fight, Blaydes has won five straight since losing his UFC debut in April 2016. Despite the logic behind this, it makes sense for Ngannou to accept as he has already beaten Blaydes. On the flip side, some fight fans might think this is an odd fight to do again. The reason for that is due to the outcome of their first fight.

For Blaydes, this is an important fight for two reasons. First is the obvious one which is to get revenge on someone who has already beaten him. The second is to get closer to a title shot at the UFC heavyweight championship.

During a recent interview, the rising title contender believes that Francis Ngannou needs a desperate win which could impact his performance.

“I don’t know. I’ve never had a two-fight losing streak. But if I project, I’m thinking he’s probably feeling a bit of pressure right now,” Blaydes said on The MMA Hour. “He knows if he loses another one it doesn’t look good. That would be three back-to-back-to-back losses in one year.”

UFC Beijing (also known as UFC Fight Night 141) is set to take place on November 24, 2018 at Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China. Blaydes continued by stating that the former title contender is a fan favorite but has a bunch of pressure on him right now.

“He’s a fan favorite, but you can still get released after that. So I know he’s got a little bit of pressure on him and that might make him press. When guys start pressing, they make mistakes and it usually gets worse.”

Curtis Blaydes Questions Ngannou’s Mental State Heading Into Rematch

Curtis Blaydes thinks former title challenger Francis Ngannou is in a ‘dark place’ heading into their main event rematch at UFC Beijing. Curtis Blaydes thinks former title challenger Francis Ngannou is in a ‘dark place’ heading into their main event rematch at UFC Beijing.

Blaydes will get his chance at redemption as Ngannou defeated “Razor” via second-round TKO (via doctor stoppage) in April 2016. That remains the only loss on Blaydes’ record.

Their first meeting, however, served as a bit of a launching point for both fighters. “The Predator” went on a run that took him straight to a title shot. As for Blaydes, he is still peaking and has won five straight since losing to Ngannou.

Blaydes said he always thought he and Ngannou would cross paths again. It just made too much sense to “Razor.”

“I wouldn’t say it kept me up at night, but I knew it would happen eventually,” Blaydes told reporters, including LowkickMMA, during a recent media scrum. “It was inevitable. I knew he’d be around, I’d be around. The UFC likes natural stories like this. We already have a natural storyline. It’s not fake. We had a fight, he won, but I didn’t get to finish it. So I do have a bit of redemption I want to get.”

Blaydes will headline UFC Fight Night 141 takes place Nov. 24 at Cadillac Arena in Beijing. The event will stream entirely on UFC Fight Pass.

When asked about Ngannou’s mental state after his last two losses, Blaydes doesn’t see how the Cameroonian can be in a good place. However, he still sees Ngannou as a dangerous opponent.

“He’s probably in a hole right now,” Blaydes said. “0-2 after being the hotshot? That’s got to be a dark, dark place. I want him to be his best, I don’t want any excuses out of his camp or the fans or the company. I want him at his best. I’ll beat him 10 out of 10 times.”

If Blaydes beats Ngannou he would seem like the next logical title challenger in the heavyweight division. He launched a social media campaign in an effort to fight for the belt after his last victory.

The UFC instead offered up a former foe for Blaydes. Although it’s far from what he wanted, a chance at redemption is a nice consolation. And either way, the first loss doesn’t get to him due to its result.

“It is a loss,” Blaydes said. “On my record, it’s a loss, but any loss that you don’t lose any sleep over is that one. It wasn’t the referee’s decision, it wasn’t the judge’s decision, it was the doctor.”
