The Upcoming UFC Heavyweight Title fight scheduled for UFC 121 on October 23, 2010, beteween current Champ Brock lesnar and number one contender Cain Velasquez Fight Odds have been posted.

Brock Lesnar’s last five opponents:

  • Win against Shane Carwin via arm triangle at UFC 116
  • Win against Frank Mir via TKO at UFC 100
  • Win against Randy Couture via TKO at UFC 91
  • Win against Heath Herring via unanimous decision at UFC 87
  • Loss against Frank Mir via kneebar at UFC 81

Cain Velasquez’s last five opponenets:

  • Win against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira via KO at UFC 110
  • Win against Ben Rothwell via TKO at UFC 104
  • Win against Cheick Kongo via unanimous decision at UFC 99
  • Win against Denis Stojnic via TKO at UFC Fight Night 17
  • Win against Jake O’Brien via TKO at UFC Fight Night 14

Here we have a show down between two great wrestlers.  Cain is 8-0 in his MMA career and 6-0 in the UFC via five T/KO’s and one unanimous decision over Cheick Kongo.  The Kongo fight showed us he can take a punch and recovered using his wrestling ability to get back into the fight.  Velasquez has improved in each fight he has taken.  He is a two-time All-American wrestler from Arizona State, BJJ purple belt under Dave Camarillo and has improved his striking tremendously.  Cain does not have the power of a Shane Carwin, but can hold his own.

Brock Lesnar is 5-1 in his MMA career and 4-1 in the UFC via two T/KO’s, two submissions, and one unanimous decision victory.  Lesnar has also shown the world he can take a punch or 60 according to the fight metrics report during round one of their UFC 116 battle. Lesnar weathered the storm of Carwin and in round two took a tired fighter down and submitted him.  He dominates his opponents with brute strength and his famous double leg take down.

I thought Lesnar would have started out a little higher.  At UFC 116  The odds started at -220 Lesnar / +180 Carwin, then ended up at -140 Lensar / +110 Carwin come fight night.

Vladimir Matyushenko Has “Surprise” In Store for Jon Jones

When Vladimir Matyushenko was confirmed as Jon Jones’ next opponent for the August 1st, UFC on Versus card, it’s likely many fans had one of two responses- for post TUF fans their first reaction may have been ‘who the hell is Matyushenko?’, while old school observers might have had the words ‘sacrificial lamb’ run through their minds. After all, Jones has dominated everyone he has faced in the Octagon to date, and when you leave dudes like Brandon Vera and Matt Hamill broken and beaten, people are going to start talking. And talking they are.

Of course, Matyushenko is no slouch, and when you consider that the decorated wrestler has lost just once since 2003 (and that was to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira) one can understand why the UFC matched “The Janitor” up with Jones (that’s still a badass nickname). So, having said that, what are the betting lines showing? Well, the odds point to Matyushenko getting tossed big time; for example, BETUS has the fight at -600 for Jones and +400 for the decade plus vet (as does Bodog). In an interview with MMA Bay, however, Matyushenko isn’t buying into all this underdog talk, stating:

“I believe at the highest level of MMA there is no such thing as an underdog. I know I have all the tools to do my job and win any fight if I train properly for it.”… ‘My strategy will be a surprise for everyone.”

Huh. It will be interesting to see what the “surprise” is; if Matyushenko wins, someone with a ton of insight, expendable cash and possibly prophetic abilities, is going to get rich. To bet on the bout head here.

Current UFC 118 Odds.  Live on Saturday, August 20, 2010 The TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts will host UFC 118.  The Main Event will feature the rematch between current Lightweight Champ Frankie Edgar (12-1) against BJ Penn (15-6-1).  Frankie was a +500 UnderDog against Penn at UFC 112, pulled off the upset and made some people alot of dough.  However he is once again the UnderDog, but at +250 this time around.  BJ will need to step his game up if he wants his belt back.  The first fight was a a back and forth battle with Edgar getting the better of the exchanges taking a unanimous decision win with a scorecard of (50-45, 49-46, 48-47).  I guarantee we will see a better BJ Penn and will make for a very exciting Main Event.

The Co-Main event is between UFC Hall of Famer and Five time UFC champion Randy “The Natural” Couture (18-10) up against Boxing great James “Lights Out” Toney, boxing record (72-6-3-2) MMA (0-0).  This will mark the first time a legit boxer has entered the Octagon except the fact he is well past his prime.  I’m excited to see if Randy will stand and band or go straight for the take-down.  Lets hope Toney is working on his sprawl.  Also Nate Marquardt (30-8-2) is taking on submission artist Rousimar Palhares (11-2).  Boston native Kenny Florian (14-4) will go up against  undefeated “The Bully” Gray Maynard (9-0-1).  Kenny will have his hometown support behind him and look to get one step closer to another title shot.
