The stage was set for the main event of UFC Fight Night Glasgow. Taking the headlining spot inside The SSE Hydro were Gunnar Nelson (16-3-1) and Santiago Ponzinibbio (25-3).

Nelson was going for his third straight win, while Ponzinibiio wanted to extend his winning streak to five.

The two men touched gloves and the action was underway. Nelson came out firing and he backed his opponent up with the lead uppercut. A lead left hook connected for “Gunni.” Ponzinibbio stunned Nelson with a right hand. Nelson left himself open and was dropped. “Gente Boa” capitalized and put him away. A huge upset in Glasgow.

Final Result: Santiago Ponzinibbio def. Gunnar Nelson via KO (Punches) – R1, 1:22

The co-main event of UFC Fight Night Glasgow featured strawweight action. Joanne Calderwood (11-3) took on Cynthia Calvillo (6-0) inside The SSE Arena.

Calderwood was looking to bounce back from her Sept. 2016 loss to Jessica Andrade. Calvillo was out to improve her professional mixed martial arts record to 6-0.

A body kick was there for Calvillo. She looked to move inside with strikes. He got in a right hand and kept moving around. A leg kick was there for Calderwood. Calvillo scored a takedown and took her opponent’s back. Calderwood spun around, and Calvillo went for an armbar. She couldn’t get it and the final horn sounded.

A clean right hand landed for Calvillo in the second stanza. She went for a side kick to the body. Calderwood used kicks to keep her distance. Calvillo blocked a high kick. A left hook landed for Calvillo. A spinning elbow got Calvillo off balanced and she acknowledged the shot. Calvillo lit up her opponent with a combination near the end of the round.

The final round began. An elbow connected for Calderwood. A head kick was there for Calvillo. Calderwood continued to use her kicks to create distance. Calvillo caught a leg and dumped her opponent down. She took the back with both hooks in. She fought to get a rear-naked choke, but the final horn sounded.

All three judges scored the fight for Calvillo.

Final Result: Cynthia Calvillo def. Joanne Calderwood via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

A lightweight bout between Paul Felder (14-3) and Stevie Ray (21-7) took place today (July 16) inside The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Felder came into the bout off a TKO victory over Alessandro Ricci. Ray had two close decision victories over Ross Pearson and Joe Lauzon.

The opening frame opened with a push kick from Felder. A leg kick was there for both men. Ray grabbed a hold of his opponent and pushed him against the fence. He changed levels and went for a takedown. Felder defended the attempt, but his back remained against the fence.

A knee to the body was there for Felder. The two had a back-and-forth battle in the clinch. Another knee to the body was there for “The Irish Dragon.” The two continued to battle in the clinch. A huge knee dropped Ray. Felder dropped some ground-and-pound. Huge elbows put a stop to the fight.

Both men stepped inside The SSE Hydro coming off losses. After riding an eight-fight winning streak, Janes was submitted by  Gerald Meerschaert. Marshman had his own streak put to an end courtesy of Thiago Santos.

Marshman looked to close the distance early. A counter right hand was there for Janes. A left hook to the body was there for Marshman. He landed a couple of strikes clean. Janes got in another counter strike. A hard hook landed for Marshman. A left hand connected for Marshman.

Janes found himself on the receiving end of clean strikes. He threw a kick to the body. Marshman answered with a leg kick and a combination upstairs. Marshman fired off some shots, but Janes landed some strikes of his own. Janes pushed his opponent against the fence as the round ended.

The second stanza began and Marshman popped his opponent with a jab. Janes had no answer for Marshman’s jabs. He left himself open to a bevy of clean shots. Janes pushed his opponent against the fence. Marshman broke free and popped Janes with more clean shots as the round ended.

Marshman again closed the distance at the start of the final frame. A counter punch scored for Janes. A series of knees to the body in the clinch was there for Janes. Time was briefly called for a mouthpiece. When the action resumed, Janes found a home for the jab. A lead left hook scored for Janes. He tied his opponent up momentarily. The final horn sounded.

All three judges scored the fight for Marshman.

Final Result: Jack Marshman def. Ryan Janes (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Having suffered the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts career, Craig was looking to get back in the win column. After dropping two straight bouts, Rountree slept Daniel Jolly in 52 seconds with a knee.

A leg kick from Craig opened up things in the bout. Another leg kick was there for Craig. Rountree moved forward with strikes. A counter right connected for Rountree. A left hand pierced the guard of Craig. Rountree landed another left hand followed by an uppercut. A kick to the body was there for Rountree.

Craig had his high kick blocked. He landed a body kick, but ate a right hand. Rountree dropped his opponent with an uppercut and landed some hammerfists to put an end to the fight.
