Lina Lansberg will make her Octagon debut Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 95 opposite a person many consider the greatest female MMA fighter in history.

Lansberg takes on Cris “Cyborg” Justino in a catchweight bout at 140 pounds. The fight is the main event and anchors the FOX Sports 1 telecast from Brazil. The 34-year-old nicknamed the “Elbow Princess” is 6-1 in her career with four finishes.

“It feels amazing to fight for the UFC, it is a dream coming true,” she said. “And I have nothing to lose, so it feels perfect. I don’t know how the fight will end, but I really want to fight five rounds, because I prepared myself for that. I just want to do my thing and make it hard for her.

Being not only a heavy underdog and an Octagon newcomer, Lansberg knows that the crowd will be in full-support of Cyborg, who is fighting for the second time in the UFC and in Brazil once more.

“I’m excited to fight with the crowd cheering for my opponent, I think it puts a lot of pressure on her,” Lansberg said.

Renan Barao Believes He Can Be A Top UFC Featherweight

Renan Barao reached the pinnacle of his sport when he became UFC bantamweight champion.

But Barao can no longer compete in that division and now sees himself becoming a challenger in the UFC’s featherweight ranks. The Brazilian meets Phillipe Nover this Saturday night in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 95.

Barao (33-4) had a rough featherweight debut earlier this year, losing a decision to Jeremy Stephens. He is now just 1-3 over his last four, including a pair of knockout losses to T.J. Dillashaw.

“I am confident in this new division, I can see myself in the Top-5 of the division and I don’t think about going back to bantamweight,” he said. “What is most important today is my health and well-being.”

As for his opponent, Barao admits that he “did not know Phillipe Nover,” but has since studied his previous fights and believes he knows where the bout will go.

“I expect the best possible from this fight,” Barao said. “I think this fight will have a lot of grappling, but I am very relaxed as to that.”

“Bigfoot” Silva Ready For Anything To Happen Vs. “Big Country”

Two of the biggest heavyweights in MMA will collide Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 95, as Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva meets Roy “Big Country” Nelson.

For Silva, the bout is a chance to get back on track after losing two straight and four of his last five. The Brazilian has recorded just one win since a 2013 knockout of Alistair Overeem.

“Roy Nelson is a tough opponent, a guy who has proved to withstand many strikes and who has a heavy right hand,” he said. “I respect him a lot, we are friends, I even helped in his training for the fight against Overeem. He really likes to fight on his feet, but in his last fight, against Derrick Lewis, he proved to be able to take the fight to the ground. Because of that, I tried to train for everything to be prepared: wrestling, grappling, jiu-jitsu.”

Once a challenger for the UFC heavyweight title, Silva has suffered back-to-back first round knockout losses to Stefan Struve and Mark Hunt. He was also finished by Frank Mir and Andrei Arlovski around a second round TKO win vs. Sao Palelei in 2015.

“I don’t know what can happen, but I am sure it will be a great fight,” Silva said.

With two days left before this weekend’s (Sat., September 24, 2016) UFC Fight Night 95 from Ginásio Nilson Nelson in Brasília, Brazil, most of the news on the Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino vs. Lina Lansberg main event has centered on ‘Cyborg’s’ brutal weight cut in order to make 140 pounds.

The former Strikeforce and current Invicta champion has long been faced with pressure to cut down to bantamweight in order to fight Ronda Rousey, but if she can’t even make 140 to face Lansberg Saturday, then the fight may not happen at all. Speaking during today’s media day for the card (via MMA Junkie), Lansberg didn’t have much sympathy for her dominant opponent:

“We are both professionals and we have signed a contract at 140 pounds. And she has already been given 140 instead of 135, and we all have to remember the UFC weight is 135, and she’s the only one fighting above it. I’m fighting at 135 as well, and the contract is 140, so I do expect her to make weight, and I’ll fight at 140 and nothing else.”

As for her own weight cut, Lansberg, who usually fights at ‘Cyborg’s’ usual home of 145 pounds as well, said it was going “perfect” and focused on the fact she could still eat during the week, something Justino probably wasn’t able to do much of. she even ran into ‘Cyborg’ on the way to get some snacks:

“I was on my way there to buy some fruits and goodies – that I still can eat. And we crossed her way. She was running in her sweatsuit. Yeah, I know the feeling, but we’ve known for months, so it’s her responsibility.”

Justino supposedly had 24 pounds to cut early in the week, meaning things most likely aren’t all that pleasant for her as she attempts to make a second straight draining cut to 140 after her first well-documented dilemma with the scales for her UFC debut at UFC 198 in May.

She’s criticized her famed nutritionist George Lockhart for telling her to take birth control pills during this cut, but no matter what the reasons she’s so far over, it looks like it could cost her a second UFC fight – and this time a headliner – if she doesn’t make the weight.

Cris Cyborg Says Ronda Rousey Sends Bad Message By Quitting

Invicta FC featherweight champion and current UFC catchweight competitor Cristiane Justino is in a weird place right now. After finally debuting for the UFC in Brazil this past May, Cyborg has found a new opponent that’s far more dangerous than any woman alive. The Brazilian knockout artist is somewhat being backed in to a corner by issues with weight cutting. Her horrific cuts to 140 pounds are clearly very dangerous. The UFC is not interested in making a women’s featherweight division, so Cyborg is left with little choice.

Unable to make the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds means Justino has missed out on a career-making rivalry. When Ronda Rousey was the champion of the division, she and Cyborg shared a nasty feud. ‘Rowdy’ and even UFC president Dana White would share some rather spiteful jokes about Cyborg’s appearance, once even claiming the Brazilian looked like ‘Wanderlei Silva in a dress.’

Cyborg Weight Cut

UFC 198

Cyborg looked insanely good against Leslie Smith at UFC 198, but the same could not be said for her pre-fight weight cut. After winning by first round TKO, Justino once again blasted Ronda Rousey. According to Cyborg, Rousey was a scared little girl in a woman’s game. Speaking with TMZ yesterday, it appears Cris Cyborg has somewhat lightened her tone on the ex-champion. She still believes Rousey is a bad role model, but at the same time sounds more encouraging when discussing a possible fight with her nemesis.
“I don’t think it’s a good example to set for kids, that you should quit when you lose. Life is hard, bad things happen to everyone, you can’t just quit. You have to use it to make you stronger.”

The opportunity to fight against Rousey has been close at times. Following a massively rumoured UFC debut in 2015, negotiations seemed to fall apart due to weight related issues again. Rousey would go on to face Holly Holm at UFC 193, and the result in Melbourne would change everything. ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ beat the daylights out of ‘Rowdy,’ and two more champions would follow in Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes.

With the division seemingly wide open, Dana White hinted this week that Rousey vs. Nunes is likely before this year is up. Will the long-fabled fight between Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey ever happen? Once again it depends on whether ‘Rowdy’ is willing to move up, because Cyborg can’t go down any further.
