Scoring arguably the biggest win of his professional career, New England Cartel mainstay, Rob Font scores a massive first-round knockout win over one-time bantamweight title challenger, ‘Magic’ Marlon Moraes.

Surving a couple of early takedowns in the first-two minutes from the Nova Friburgo, Font defended well off his back, and despite partially eating a patented whipping switch kick, kept his composure to Stun the former WSOF champion on the feet.

Utilizing massive hooks and straights, the Massachusetts native stunned and dropped Moraes with referee, Marc Goddard keeping a close eye on the #3 ranked Moraes. Eventually sealing the deal and doing enough for Goddard to step in, Font landed a punshing elbow from guard before a couple more ground-and-pound strikes.

While speaking with former two-weight world champion and UFC colour-commentator, Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier afterwards, Font noted the impending return of former two-time division kingpin, T.J. Dillashaw.

What a way to land in the UFC. Undefeated submission-specialist, Jimmy ‘The Brick’ Flick has made good on his Octagon call, scoring a spectacular flying-triangle victory over Cody Durden in the opening-round.

Rallying from some dicey striking exchanges as well as briefly giving up his back, Flick managed to grab his composure midway through the opening-round.

Launching a left high-kick which Durden partially blocked, Flick threw his right leg across the former’s back, setting up a stunning flying-triangle. Scoring his incredible fourteenth submission success, Flick eventually forced the tap from Durden with just over three-minutes elapsed in the opening frame.

Initially slated to feature at UFC Fight Night Raleigh in January of this year, a bantamweight pairing of recent UFC Fight Island 5 victor, Cory ‘The Sandman’ Sandhagen and former lightweight best, Frankie ‘The Answer’ Edgar have been verbally agreed upon for a UFC Fight Night event on February 6th. — with a location and venue for the event yet to be determined.

Recent bantamweight debutante, Edgar was first set to match with Elevation Fight Team mainstay Sandhagen at the above-mentioned, Raleigh event, until a short-notice knockout defeat to one-time 145-pound title challenger, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung at UFC Fight Night Busan in December last ruled him from proceedings. 

Headlining his first event under the UFC’s banner in October, Sandhagen earned his #2 rank at 135-pounds via a highlight-reel second-round wheel-kick stoppage of former WSOF bantamweight best and one-time UFC title chaser, ‘Magic’ Marlon Moraes. 

39-year-old Tom’s River favourite, Edgar successfully made his bantamweight bow in August at UFC Vegas 7 — returning to the winner’s enclosure via a split decision win over Pedro ‘The Young Punisher’ Munhoz in a close back-and-forth. News of the targeted tie was first reported by ESPN MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani. 

A seven-fight Octagon veteran, Sandhagen featured twice this year, scoring his above-mentioned finish of Moraes, after a high-profile rear-naked choke defeat to number-one contender and incoming title challenger, Aljamain ‘Funk Master’ Sterling at UFC 250 in June. 

Seeing his five-fight promotional rise halted, the 28-year-old has nabbed consecutive victories over Austin Arnett, Iuri Alcantara, Mario Bautista, John Lineker, and Raphael Assuncao. 

Returning to winning ways, Edgar halted a two-fight skid of his own, with a featherweight title challenge loss to then-champion, Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway coming prior to his knockout defeat to Jung in South Korea. 

A former undisputed lightweight titleholder, Ricardo Almeida and Mark Henry mainstay, Edgar had picked up notable career victories over B.J. Penn (x3), Gray Maynard, Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson (x2), Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, Jeremy Stephens, and Yair Rodriguez. 

The UFC Fight Night event — which is still without a location or venue, is set to be headlined by a high-stakes, potential heavyweight title-eliminator between the decorated Dutch kickboxer, Alistair ‘The Demolition Man’ Overeem, and former Bellator titleholder, Alexander ‘Drago’ Volkov.

Marvin ‘The Italian Dream’ Vettori has seized the short-notice opportunity with arguably the biggest standout performance of his career. The Kings MMA mainstay switched from an early approach — on his way to a unanimous decision win over Jack ‘The Joker’ Hermansson.

The real story of the first-round came with both men hoping to find a home for counter straight shots, mostly in the pocket. Landing the most significant shot of the frame, Vettori dropped Hermansson with a left hand, and briefly threatened with a guillotine as the Swede survived the first-frame.

With an aggresive approach to the opening exchanges of the second, Hermansson attempted to score a high-crotch single-leg, with Vettori defending expertly, event sweeping the #4 ranked contender, winding up in full-guard. In a much more comfortable finish to the round, Hermansson landed a good knee in the clinch, finding a notably heavy breathing Vettori’s mid-section.

Likely stealing the third-round, Hermansson managed to let his hands go with much more success midway through this headliner, with Vettori still breathing quite heavily. Hermansson swinging somewhat wild, however.

While Vettori seemed much more composed and energetic in the fourth than in the third, it semes Hermansson may have still scored a 10-9 with his cleaner boxing. Vettori’s shots also seem to have waned in effect compared to the first round.

Blasting through the final round with the same pace as set in the prior four, Vettori and Hermansson battled to the distance, with the Italian scoring a unanimous decision win in a short-notice appearance. Following his victory, the soon to be minted top-five contender called for a pairing with recent middleweight title challenger, Paulo ‘The Eraser’ Costa.

Improving to 8-0, Jordan ‘The Monkey King’ Leavitt made good on his promotional bow with a worrying slam KO of veteran contender, Matt Wiman to open the main card of UFC Vegas 16.

Shooting for a double-leg, Leavitt, an alum of Dana White‘s Contender Series — managed to lock his hands as Wiman triangled his legs around the former’s hips.

Walking his way over to his own corner, Leavitt then posted his right forearm on Wiman’s neck before slamming the veteran to the canvas with a massive thud, knocking the 37-year-old Denver native unconscious in quite a worrying way.

Showing his respect and discipline, Leavitt electing against following up with any ground and pound as referee, Chris Tognoni immediately jumped to stop the action. As Wiman began to regain consciousness, Leavitt paid his respects to the former’s wife who was corning Wiman. Leavitt’s stunning slam stoppage comes as the twelfth slam finish in promotional history.

The Georgian MMA takeover continues tonight at UFC Vegas 16 in ‘Sin City’. Featuring on the preliminary portion of the card, Ilia Topuria improved to 10-0 professionally, and 2-0 under the promotion’s banner via a massive overhand right knockout win over Damon Jackson in the opening frame.

The former Brave CF competitor made his Octagon splash in October at UFC Fight Island 5 — taking home a unanimous decision victory over fellow highly-touted prospect Youssef Zalal.

Utilising his boxing early and often opposed to his dangerous grappling, Topuria notably ripped the body on cue in the run up to the finish. Hurting Jackson with a perfectly placed body shot, Topuria backed the former up against the fence, before uncorking a massive overhand right hand, slumping Jackson before the three-minute mark of the first-round.
