Gunnar Nelson is out of his scheduled bout at UFC Liverpool.

He was slated to fight Neil Magny in a welterweight bout at this upcoming show but unfortunately had to pull out due to a knee injury. UFC officials are currently looking for a replacement opponent to take on Magny.

Nelson has not been seen in the Octagon since he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio in the main event of the UFC Fight Night 113 event in Scotland last July.

On the flip side, Magny is looking to gain some more momentum after picking up a win over former title contender Carlos Condit back in December at UFC 219.

Nelson confirmed the news by writing the following statement on his Facebook page:

“Unfortunately I have to withdraw from my fight against Neil Magny on May 27th in Liverpool. Last weekend I injured my knee. I will undergo an operation right away and I´ll be out for 8-10 weeks. I’m sorry to my family, my opponent, my teammates, the fans and the UFC.

This is a huge blow to me and I’m at a loss for words to describe the disappointment I am feeling. I was really feeling up for this fight, the training camp was going great and everything was just perfect until this happened.

When all is said and done this is the fight business and injuries are sometimes an unfortunate part of it given the physical rigors us athletes put our bodies through. I will keep on evolving as a fighter while I’m on the sidelines and I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

UFC Liverpool is set to take place on May 27, 2018, at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 at while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 at and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass. Darren Till vs. Stephen Thompson will headline this show.

There is one title contender who was unaware who rising UFC welterweight prospect Darren Till was.

That all changed once the Las Vegas-based promotion announced that he would be fighting Till. That title contender is Stephen Thompson.

Till will take on former title contender at the upcoming UFC Liverpool event. It’s already been confirmed that this bout will serve as the headliner.

Thompson was last seen in the Octagon at the UFC 217 pay-per-view event in New York City last November where he won via unanimous decision against Jorge Masvidal.

On the flip side, Till is coming off the biggest win of his pro-MMA career thus far by beating former title contender Donald Cerrone.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Thompson opened up on this fight, and in the interview, he claimed that he didn’t even know who Till was.

“To be honest, I didn’t know who this guy was, when I was approached. ‘Who is this Darren Till?’” proclaimed Stephen during a recent edition of The MMA Hour (transcript courtesy of MMA Mania). “He got a name after knocking out (Donald) Cerrone, which I don’t, Cerrone was on a three-fight losing streak. He was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal, who I just beat,” he added.

“So I was like, ‘Who is this number seven guy? Why is he jumping over everybody else to fight the number one contender? Why am I not fighting the number two guy?’ When I was coming up in the rankings, I had to fight up to number one to get that title. That was another reason I turned down the Till fight right away was because I wanted to fight ‘RDA,’ and that’s not happening.”

“So there was nobody else to fight but this guy Darren Till. And it’s in his own backyard? So I was like, ‘Why am I fighting this guy who I don’t even know, in his own hometown?’” added Thompson. “But he keeps asking for it and he is definitely going to get the best ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson come May 27.”

Surging No. 7 UFC welterweight Darren Till burst into the spotlight when he stopped longtime vet Donald Cerrone in the main event of last October’s UFC Poland, but it’s been surprising to not see the Scouse star set foot back into the octagon since then.

But even though the UFC and Till didn’t strike while the proverbial iron was hot, they may have found an even better spot to showcase Till’s enamoring skills when it was recently announced he would be taking on former title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in the main event of the UFC’s first trip to Till’s hometown of Liverpool on May 27.

Since the pivotal fight broke, Till has predictably been making bold prognostications for the awaited match, a trend he continued to MMANYTT (via MMA Mania), insisting he knows he’s better than the 35-year-old striking specialist before offering his foretelling of a brash outcome in his favor:

“Everyone says I’m not worthy of him … well, let’s just f**king fight. Because it’s getting me more lit up now inside. Let’s f**king do it. Let’s do it. Me and him. Show me how good of a striker you are, because I know I’m better, I know I’ll take his chin clean off. I know I’m better than him.”

It may have taken several months for his next bout to get booked, a time during which he went back-and-forth with several rising welterweight contenders such as Kamaru Usman, who was recently scheduled to fight Santiago Ponzinibbio in the main of UFC Chile.

Usman accused the Liverpudlian of being scared to face him, something he’s done to a large portion of the 170-pound rankings of late. But Till insisted he isn’t scared of the dominant wrestler’s mat game, just like he’s not scared of anyone in the division’s main strengths:

”I’m not scared of anyone,” Till said. “I’m not scared of Gunnar’s grappling and I’m not scared of Usman’s wrestling, I’m not scared of Woodley’s power and I’m not scared of Thompson’s karate. I don’t give a f**k about any of them. I’m not scared of any of them. They should be f**king scared of me because I’m a vicious little c**t.”
