Matt Schnell

In a scintillating performance on the main card of UFC Long Island, flyweight contender, Matt Schnell manages to stop Sumudaerji with a stunning second round triangle choke — rallying from a pair of knockdowns and a slew of wobbles on the feet.

Schnell, the current #8 ranked flyweight contender, entered tonight’s matchup against Sumudaerji off the back of a submission loss to Brandon Royval, and almost found himself riding a two-fight losing run in the second frame, as the latter laid down a series of elbow strikes on the feet.

Rallying as Sumudaerji attempted to empty the tank in search of an almost certain finish, Schnell captilized and wobbled Sumudaerji himself, before taking him down with a double leg, establishing mount and slicing the latter with strikes from the top of his own.

Elbowing his way through as Sumudaerji attempted to sweep, Matt Schnell then moved to his own back, and locked up a triangle choke — forcing a stoppage from referee, Jacob Montalvo at Sumudaerji slipped into unconsciousness.

Eyeing a return to the Octagon in November at Madison Square Garden, Schnell offered to fight Brazilian striker, Matheus Nicolau at UFC 281.

Lauren Murphy

One-time flyweight title challenger, Lauren Murphy has rebounded at the first time of trying from her title challenge loss last year, turning in an impressive, one-sided unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) win on the main card of UFC Long Island against former bantamweight best, Miesha Tate.

Lauren Murphy, who challenged Valentina Shevchenko for undisputed flyweight gold back in September of last year in the co-main event of UFC 266, suffered a fourth round high kick and subsequent strikes knockout loss to the Krgyzstan native.

Facing former undisputed bantamweight champion, Tate in the main card opener of UFC Long Island tonight in New York, Murphy managed to knock back the Washington favorite in her first outing at the flyweight limit, turning in a rather one-sided judging win.

Bloodying the nose of Tate in the second round, Murphy also appeared to cause a rather significant eye injury, or swelling at least beneath the left eye of the former titleholder courtesy of an elbow.

Offering to fight the victor of an expected Manon Fiorot x Jessica Andrade/Katlyn Chookagian fight in the future, Murphy has set sights on landing another crack at dominant division queen, Shevchenko.
