Aljamain Sterling believes the criticism of the way he became UFC bantamweight champion is unfair, especially given that he wasn’t responsible for stopping the fight. Despite currently sitting as the only American titleholder in the UFC, Sterling certainly has his fair-share of detractors, with many hoping to see him dethroned at every opportunity. That’s largely…

Chase Hooper Clay Guida

UFC featherweight contender, Chase Hooper turned in a spectacular submission win at Fury Pro 6 this weekend, clashing with long-time perennial lightweight contender, Clay Guida, snatching up a highlight-reel calf slicer stoppage.

Hooper, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series following a decision win over 2018, spent time competing on the North American regional circuit before making an eventual UFC bow back in December of that following year.

Just 23 years of age, Hooper recently featured at UFC Vegas 63 knockout loss to Steve Garcia back in October of this year, suffering his third loss under the promotional banner.

As for Guida, the former Strikeforce lightweight title challenger featured just earlier this month on the UFC Orlando card in the ‘Sunshine State’, scoring a split decision win over Scott Holtzman.

Sharing footage of his impressive submission win over Guida, Chase Hooper explained he was honored to compete against the former, whom he described as a “legend”.

Chase Hooper boasts a 3-3 UFC record from six Octagon walks

“Thankful to end the year on a high note doing something I love,” Chase Hooper tweeted. “It was an honor to compete against a legend and hopefully I put on a good show for everybody.”

3-3 during his six-fight Octagon tenure, Hooper holds wins over the trio of David Teymur, Peter Barrett, and Felipe Colares – the most recent of which at UFC Vegas 55 back in May of last year – earning him a Performance of the Night bonus.

38-22 as a professional, Guida has competed under the UFC banner since October 2006, and during his professional career, landed victories over the likes of Josh Thomson, Nate Diaz, Rafael dos Anjos, Takanori Gomi, Anthony Pettis, Joe Lauzon, B.J. Penn, Michael Johnson, and Leonardo Santos.

In the submission grappling event’s headliner, prolific grappling talent, Gillian Robertson submitted former two-time UFC strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas with a quickfire stoppage.

Kamaru Usman helps promote MMA in his home country of Nigeria leading up to UFC Africa

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has decided to promote mixed martial arts in Africa prior to the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s debut event on the continent.

UFC President Dana White has gone on record a number of times in 2022 stating that he’d like to take the UFC to Africa in 2023, and that if he doesn’t do it now, 10 more years will go by and they still wouldn’t have created a market there.

Therefore, Usman has taken matters into his own hands by helping promote an event in Nigeria.

As you see in the video above, Usman is playing Dana White by hosting the weigh ins at Face Off Fight Night III.

Kamaru Usman is one of the greatest 170 lb fighters to ever walk the earth, many placing him second just behind Georges St-Pierre.

But, it’s not just himself helping to promote MMA in Africa; former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou have both done the same as well, Adesanya being a fellow Nigerian, and Ngannou hailing from Cameroon.

With the athleticism, strength, and power of most Africans, once the Performance Institutes have been built there, there’s no telling how many stud fighters will come out of there.

Dricus du Plessis, following his win over Darren Till at UFC 282, also stated that the UFC should come to his native country in South Africa for their continental debut, saying they have the perfect infrastructures to host a massive event.

Do you think the UFC will host an event in Africa in 2023?

Shavkat Rakhmonov responds to Kevin Lee’s callout of Khamzat Chimaev: “Where do I fit into this?”

Undefeated UFC welterweight prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov has recently taken a jab at former lightweight and welterweight talent Kevin Lee, who recently called out Khamzat Chimaev despite not being signed with the UFC himself.

Lee recently tweeted the following regarding Chechnya native: “All I’m saying is I’m willing. Don’t act like everybody(‘s) scared of the man.”

It’s hard to imagine this fight would even be put together, considering Lee left the UFC over a year ago. He also has three fights left on his deal with Eagle FC, following a four-fight contract he signed with the promotion in late 2021.

Lee defeated The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner Diego Sanchez in his Eagle FC debut, a lackluster performance that gave ‘The MoTown Phenom’ his first win in over two years, improving his record to 19-7 in the process. However, he’s still only 3-5 in his last eight.

Shavkat Rakhmonov responded to the tweet stating: “Where do I fit into this?”

It’s a reasonable question, because he’s the perfect next match up for Chimaev according to many fans and media members.

For one, Rakhmonov is currently under the UFC umbrella, and for two, it’d be an undefeated versus undefeated match up.

Rakhmonov just lost his match up with Geoff Neal, who was forced to withdraw from their January showdown with an injury. Neal is the only man to knock out both Mike Perry and Vicente Luque, and Rakhmonov is currently in search of another dance partner considering.

Rakhmonov is 16-0 (4-0 UFC) as a professional with finishes in all 16 wins (8 knockout, 8 submission), while Chimaev is 12-0 (6-0 UFC) as a professional with 11 finishes (6 knockout, 5 submission).

Should the UFC make this fight next, someone’s 0 will have to go.

But, these are perhaps the no. 1 and no. 2 hottest prospects in the sport right now, they’re both 28 years old, they’re both undefeated with a combined record of 28-0 (10-0 UFC with 9 finishes), and they’d probably end up rematching for the belt someday down the road.

Who knows, maybe they’d even have a trilogy as well.

Do you think Shavkat Rakhmonov vs Khamzat Chimaev is the fight to make next?
