Off the back of his stunning first round knockout win over Sean Strickland at UFC 276 on Saturday night, Brazilian kickboxer, Alex Pereira received a quite surprising callout from the undefeated, Khamzat Chimaev, however, the latter has still yet to be drawn on questions of a future fight between the two red-hot contenders.

Pereira, who made just his third UFC appearance in Las Vegas, Nevada over the course of last weekend, likely earned his third combat sports outing with middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya – stopping the #4 ranked division challenger, Strickland, with a picture-perfect opening round knockout.

Circling Strickland for the entirety of the two-and-a-half-minute first round, Pereira set up a left hook expertly, dropping the North Carolina native before following up with strikes to land a first frame KO win.

Entering the Octagon without a top-15 number beside his name, the Sao Paulo striking phenom had made his UFC debut back in November with a highlight-reel flying knee win over Andreas Michailidis, before then defeating fellow Brazilian, Bruno Silva with a unanimous decision performance.

Given his well-documented history with the aforenoted, Adesanya, whom he holds two kickboxing wins over – including a devastating 2017 one-punch knockout win, Pereira managed to fast track his way to a championship fight with his knockout success against Strickland in ‘Sin City’.

However, despite the fact a title showdown with the Nigerian-Kiwi likely awaits him, Pereira received a quite surprising callout from welterweight nightmare, Chimaev, who urged UFC leader, Dana White to book him against next.

“I’m want (sic) to fight with this guy UFC,” Khamzat Chimaev tweeted following UFC 276. “Dana White let’s make it.”

Addressing his next step post-his UFC 276 finish over Strickland, Pereira set sights firmly on a title offing against Adesanya, and refused to speak openly on a future fight with Chimaev.

“I’m gonna keep the same line that I always do,” Alex Pereira said during an interview with Helen Yee. “See what’s in front of me, not what is ahead. Same with (the) Sean Strickland fight. People were talking about Israel’s (Adesanya) fight and I said, ‘Look, I’ve got to take care of this first.’”

“Right now, I’m gonna take care of my fight with Israel for the title and then after that, we’ll see about that,” Alex Pereira said of a fight with Khamzat Chimaev. “To be the champion, that’s my goal.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

Alexander Volkansovski

Reigning featherweight champion, Alexander Volkansovski has responded to Aljamain Sterling’s claims that he would ‘easily’ take down and submit Volkanovski.

In the co-main event of UFC 276, combat sports fans witnessed Alexander Volkansovski further cement his legacy as one of the greatest featherweights of all time. ‘The Great’ would take on and defeat the former champion, Max Holloway, for a third time, simultaneously making his fourth title defense.

Alexander Volkanovski has now expressed intentions of moving up to lightweight, hoping to face Charles Oliveira, who was recently stripped of the 155lb belt, for the vacant title.

Although Volkanovski is chasing greatness in the weight above, the champion in the weight class below him feels he can do the same. Bantamweight champion, Aljamian Sterling, feels that he has the skills to finish Volkanovski if they were to meet in the octagon.

Alexander Volkansovski Responds

During his UFC 276 post-fight press conference, Volkanavski was asked what he thought of Sterling’s comments.

“Aljamain said that? Let him talk, it’s alright,” the Australian said. “He’s got his own division to hold on. Credit to him to fight someone like Petr Yan and get the win, but settle down.”

With his recent win, Volkanovski finds himself in a position where there are no obvious contenders for his title. Holloway was the clear second-best in this position as during the time between the second and third fight he would comfortably beat both Yair Rodriguez and Calvin Kattar.

Volkansovski also found success in this period successfully fending off two more contenders in Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez. Admittedly, No.4 ranked Josh Emmett has complied a solid five-fight winning streak, capping it off with a recent win over Calvin Kattar. However, the idea of this matchup has picked up little steam in terms of fan interest.

Although this does leave an opening for Sterling to potentially move up, there is still plenty of work for Sterling to do at bantamweight. Former champion TJ Dillashaw made a successful return after a PED suspension and the Petr Yan chapter of Sterling’s life doesn’t seem to be over.

Donald Cerrone Lays Out Retirement Plan: ‘Drink Beer And Have A Belly So Big I Can’t See My D*ck’

Donald Cerrone

One-time UFC lightweight title challenger, Donald Cerrone has laid out pretty distinct plans as he rides off into the sunset following his UFC 276 retirement – which includes continued attending of promotional events, and indulging.

Cerrone, who challenged for undisputed UFC lightweight championship spoils back in 2015, to somewhat of a surprise, called time on his storied professional mixed martial arts career following a UFC 276 loss to two-time opponent, Jim Miller on Saturday.

Enjoying a 17-year professional career, Cerrone, who replaced Bobby Green on just a week’s notice, suffered a second round guillotine loss against Miller – whom he holds a prior high kick knockout win over, before deciding to take off both his gloves and cowboy hat, placing them in the Octagon following the ‘Sin City’ defeat.

“Thank you, Las Vegas,” Donald Cerrone said during his post-fight interview with UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan. “I’m glad my boys got to be here. Here they come now. I don’t love it anymore, Joe. It’s hard for me to get up (for fights), and this is the longest camp I’ve had in a long time. I’m not complaining to anybody, but I don’t love it anymore.”

“I‘m going to be a movie star, baby. It’s time to bow out. I’ve got to know when. This was the perfect event, man – a sold-out crowd in Las Vegas, talking to you. I’ve got my boys. It was one hell of a career, man. Hopefully, one day, I’m in the Hall of Fame. Thank you so much, UFC.”

Donald Cerrone admits he should have likely retired more than 2 years ago

Ending his professional career boasting a 36-17(2) record, Cerrone further admitted that he likely should have called time on his run before his 2020 knockout loss to former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor, as well as laying out a gameplan for retired life away from the Octagon.

“I feel good,” Donald Cerrone told assembled media following UFC 276. “It’s like the biggest sight of relief I’ve ever had in my life. Like, ‘Ohh, we’re done.’ And it’s not off to the next chapter. I’m finally okay in my heart saying it’s time to walk away. The only regret I could say I have is I didn’t do this sooner. I’ll be coming to a lot of fights. I still love the sport, I just don’t love fighting for the sport anymore.”

“Yeah, I’m going to drink beer up there on the front row and have a belly so big I can’t even see my d*ck,” Donald Cerrone explained. “That’s what I’m looking for. Take a look at this body, because it’ll be the last time it’s ever looking this way. After that, I’m turning the corner and never looking back.”
