A featherweight banger between Shane Burgos and Charles Jourdain will go down at UFC Long Island on July 16.

Multiple sources confirmed the planned booking to Cageside Press’ Alex Behunin last month, with UFC 276 being reported as the targeted date. On Thursday, Eurosport’s Marcel Dorff confirmed that the matchup will take place in New York two weeks after International Fight Week.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Burgos wrote, “And we’re back.”

Burgos (14-2), who is currently ranked #14 at 145 pounds, is rarely, if ever, in a boring fight. Despite being 1-2 across his last three appearances, “Hurricane” never fails to entertain, even in defeat.

After going 6-1 in his first seven Octagon outings, a run of form that included wins against Cub Swanson and Makwan Amirkhani, and a sole defeat to now-top-five contender Calvin Kattar, Burgos fell to consecutive losses for the first time in his professional career. Following a narrow defeat to Josh Emmett in one of 2020’s Fight of the Year contenders, a knockout loss to Edson Barboza, remembered for the freakish nature of the KO, made it back-to-back setbacks.

In yet another entertaining three-round war, Burgos returned to the win column last time out at UFC 268, outpointing fellow fan favorite Billy Quarantillo. In the 31-year-old’s way of a two-fight win streak could be Jourdain (13-4-1).

After an underwhelming start to his UFC career, which saw him go 2-3-1 in his first six appearances, Jourdain has hit his best form yet, winning two in a row inside the Octagon for the first time. Having rebounded with an emphatic decision victory over Andre Ewell last December, the Canadian opened his 2022 account with an impressive first-round submission triumph against 12-fight UFC vet Lando Vannata at UFC Vegas 52 last month.

While Burgos will be looking to maintain his place on the featherweight ladder on July 16, Jourdain will be hoping to add a number next to his name. Although they may have different goals for UFC Long Island, both will be targeting another memorable contest, and perhaps one that will be worthy of a $50,000 FOTN bonus.

The fights currently expected to take place on the UFC Long Island card are as follows:

Brian Ortega vs. Yair Rodriguez (featherweight main event)

Askar Askarov vs. Alex Perez (flyweight)

Michelle Waterson vs. Amanda Lemos (women’s strawweight)

Ricky Simón vs. Jack Shore (bantamweight)

Shane Burgos vs. Charles Jourdain (featherweight)

Li Jingliang vs. Muslim Salikhov (welterweight)

Jessica Penne vs. Brianna Fortino (women’s strawweight)

Dustin Jacoby vs. Da Un Jung (light heavyweight)

Billy Quarantillo vs. Bill Algeo (featherweight)

Punahele Soriano vs. Dalcha Lungiambula (middleweight)

Herbert Burns vs. Khusein Askhabov (featherweight)

Who do you think will have their hand raised at UFC Long Island, Shane Burgos or Charles Jourdain?

UFC lightweights Rafael Fiziev and Bobby Green seemed to be on mutually respectful terms, but not anymore.

Fiziev and Green fought in a three-round war at UFC 265, with Fiziev earning a unanimous decision victory. It was an exciting fight between two of the most technical strikers in the lightweight division.

But things quickly turned hostile when Green accused Fiziev of using steroids during a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. Green said that because Fiziev trains in Thailand, he dodged USADA testing and got away with steroid use ahead of their UFC 265 matchup.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Fiziev responded to Green’s accusations that he uses steroids and intentionally cheats.

“Bobby Green, before, I respected him a lot. I respected him a lot and I talked about him only good, only nice stuff. But now I understand he’s a fucking salty ex,” Fiziev said. “He’s a fucking salty ex, because why you talk this shit about me? Man, I’m scared to use BCAA’s. I’m scared to use just protein.

“Sometimes I have head pain, I’m scared to use just pills for my head pain. And this guy, he goes and talk about me like this? Maximum what I drink – I can show you now what I drink everyday. I drink multivitamin, Vitamin C and calcium. That’s it. That’s it what I drink. And this man goes and talks sh*t about me, and his coach also.

“I am [gonna] slap him. I don’t talk with him, I just come and I slap him like my bitch,” Fiziev continued. “Because why you lie for nothing? He just going to Joe Rogan cause he have a big fanbase and millions of people watch him, and he goes and talks shit about me for nothing. Just go and talk shit. And Bobby, he’s a dog. Stray dog.” (h/t MiddleEasy)

Fiziev and Green are both scheduled for fights later this year. Fiziev will face former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at a UFC Fight Night on July 9, while Green was recently booked to face Jim Miller at UFC 276.

Green most recently fought on short notice against Islam Makhachev in February, losing via first-round TKO. Before that, he picked up wins over Nasrat Haqparast and Al Iaquinta.

Fiziev has won five straight since a UFC debut loss to Magomed Mustafaev in April 2019. He has earned wins over the likes of Moicano, Brad Riddell, and Green inside the Octagon.

Green has yet to respond to Fiziev’s comments, but we’ll update you if he responds publically to the threats.

What do you make of the ignited Rafael Fiziev/Bobby Green beef?

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman couldn’t care less if the UFC decides to create an interim title in his absence.

Currently, Usman is dealing with a hand injury that has kept him sidelined since his last bout. That being a November title defense against Colby Covington, which he was victorious in via unanimous decision.

Now, Usman is letting his hand recover from surgery, but with no time frame for his Octagon return just yet. He only barely started testing out the hand lightly earlier this month, and is expected to receive an update from doctors in two weeks.

Speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Usman was asked about how he would feel should the UFC implement an interim 170-pound title in his absence. From the sound of it, “The Nigerian Nightmare” couldn’t care less.

“Well, I don’t really care about any of these guys because I’ve proven who I am. It’s not like, oh, you just got the title, now you’re out for a year or two years. But no, I believe it’s if you’re out for a year then it’s an interim title? I mean, I just put in a year to cement where I am. And let’s be honest, an interim title really just means you’re the #1 contender.

“So I don’t really think anything of it. Everyone knows who the champion is. Everyone knows who the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet is. So that’s all I’m thinking about is my health, and when I can get back in there, and do what I love to do.”

Usman’s tear through the welterweight division has certainly been a dominant one. His list of victories include names such as Colby Covington, Tyron Woodley, Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal, Leon Edwards, and so many more.

He is the most dominant champion the division has seen in some time, and could quite possibly go down as the greatest of all time when it’s all said and done. However, he’ll need to get past this injury, and back in the Octagon, before anything else.

What do you make of Kamaru Usman and his indifference to a potential interim welterweight title? Do you think the UFC will pull the trigger on an interim champion? Sound off below!

Gegard Mousasi Claims UFC-Reebok Deal Was A Way Of ‘Stealing’ From Fighters

Gegard Mousasi

Bellator MMA middleweight kingpin and former UFC contender, Gegard Mousasi has claimed that the promotion’s uniform and outfitting deal with global brand, Reebok – which initially came into effect in 2015, was a way for the promotion to “steal” from fighters on their roster.

Mousasi, the current undisputed middleweight champion, is slated to return under the Scott Coker-led banner at Bellator 282 in June, clashing with Johnny Elben following a first round knockout win over Austin Vanderford back in February at Bellator Dublin in another successful defense of his middleweight throne.

Debuting under the scrutiny of Bellator back in October 2017, Mousasi has so far established a 7-1 promotional record from eight total fights.

Mousasi, a former Strikeforce, Cage Warriors, and Dream gold holder, made his move to the UFC back in April 2013, and despite riding a five fight winning run, including a victory over former middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, Mousasi never competed for Octagon gold before linking up with Bellator.

Gegard Mousasi shares his thoughts on the criticized Reebok deal with the UFC

Penning a contract with the organization following his win against Weidman, Mousasi has detailed how he earns a more lucrative payday per fight as a result with Bellator – in comparison to a massive dip in sponsorship money earned in the UFC, as he noted with the introduction of the Reebok deal with the organization.

“You took those away, you put Reebok,” Gegard Mousasi told Robin Black on Haymakers,” All the money went to UFC. Paying a fighter that can make $200,000 a fight, then it goes to $10,000 (with) Reebok. That’s stealing from the fighter. They could’ve said, ‘Ok, f*ck that’. And then they killed the whole sponsorships, everything.”

“They could’ve sent every fighter $10,000 checks as an employee (as a) thank you for where we are now,” Gegard Mousasi said. “$10,000 is nothing. They took the sponsorship, they put Reebok. I was making $6,000 with Reebok. (What) they were giving fighters, it wasn’t always the best. They could’ve done a better job. You don’t have to be that greedy.”

Mousasi maintains that he was thankful for the opportunity provided to him in the UFC, and how he was not speaking negatively of the promotion.

“I’m thankful to UFC, to be honest,” Gegard Mousasi said. “After Strikeforce… they bought Strikeforce, I went there, they gave me opportunity. I’m not bashing on them. I’m still thankful. I can understand profit goes (comes first). But my thing is more – treating your employees better, and then the business. But maybe I would go bankrupt (that way).”

Beneil Dariush Brands Charles Oliveira A “Hypocrite” For Not Fighting Him

Beneil Dariush, Charles Oliveira

UFC lightweight Beneil Dariush has fired shots at Charles Oliveira for not taking a fight with him.

Having been on the sidelines since his last outing against Tony Ferguson last May, Dariush is swift in recovery from an ankle tear. Although he was expected to fight Islam Makhachev, talks of the showdown fizzled out after the sixth-ranked contender provided an update on his injury.

With Oliveira having to vacate his title, the matchmaking for UFC lightweight division has been turned on its head. Dana White had stated that Makhachev would need to dispatch Dariush to get a shot at the title but with no champ in place, things may change very quickly. Dariush was scheduled to take on Oliveira in October 2020 but it never happened as ‘do Bronx’ ended up facing Tony Ferguson in December of that year.

In a recent interview with ESPN MMA, Beneil Dariush talked about Charles Oliveira missing weight, the state of the lightweight division in the UFC, and Islam Makhachev.

“I haven’t had any conversations with the UFC,” Dariush said. “In my mind, if I’m as good as I think I am, if I’m the best in the world, then everybody’s food. All these guys are just food. The only difference is the rotation, like who’s going to be first for me to eat. That’s basically how I look at it.”

“And so, that’s one of the reasons why I’m not like jumping on it, ‘ah, Charles has to give me this fight.’ I could clearly say, ‘hey buddy, you always talk about how the top five never gave you the fight. We were scheduled to fight, we were supposed to fight in October of 2020. You bailed on me and you said family issues. And then in December, you fought Tony Ferguson.

“What the heck, man? You’re being kind of a hypocrite’. If I really cared, that’s kinda how I would come at this. I’d be like, ‘dude, you’re being a hypocrite. You owe me a fight’.

“Pff, I don’t care. Just tell me who’s next and let’s get to work. That’s really how I feel right now. Just annoyed, mostly annoyed is the way I would put it.”

It seems like Beneil Dariush knows what he needs to do to get in a better position to challenge for the title. Although he’s expressed his disappointment with the Brazilian’s treatment, he is willing to wait for the match.

Would you like to see Beneil Dariush fight Charles Oliveira?
