Conor McGregor, Islam Makhachev

UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev has heard Conor McGregor‘s claims for the next title shot and he isn’t amused.

Makhachev made quick work of Bobby Green in the main event of UFC Vegas 49. He secured a heavy takedown just minutes into the fight and landed solid ground-and-pound strikes to earn the TKO victory.

Makhachev has now won 10 in a row and will more than likely get the next lightweight title shot. But, McGregor has claimed that he expects to get the next title shot once he returns from his leg injury later this year.

Charles Oliveira will face Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 and Makhachev expects to get the winner. Not only that, but he isn’t ruling out the possibility of a fight with McGregor down the line.

Islam Makhachev Talks Potential Conor McGregor Fight

During his UFC Vegas 49 post-fight press conference, Makhachev addressed McGregor’s title ambitions and whether or not a fight with him is of interest.

“Honestly, I don’t remember when this guy beat someone,” Makhachev said. “He has to come back, beat someone, and then let’s go. Why not? I’m gonna smash him. Bobby Green is going to look harder for me than a fight with him.”

Makhachev earned dominant wins over Thiago Moises and Dan Hooker before earning the win over Green. He was originally supposed to face Beneil Dariush at UFC Vegas 49 before Dariush pulled out after suffering an injury in camp.

McGregor is expecting to return this summer but it’s unclear as to an exact timeframe for his return to the cage. Makhachev is a protege of Khabib Nurmagomedov, one of McGregor’s most heated rivals.

It’s unclear what could be next for both men, but a McGregor vs. Makhachev fight may not be completely out of the realm of possibility over the next year or two.

The UFC Vegas 49 bonuses have been released.

The event took place in Las Vegas, Nevada at the UFC Apex facility. Headlining the card was a clash between Islam Makhachev and Bobby Green. This fight was exactly what everyone thought it was going to be, a one-sided beatdown and Green was the victim.

Islam took him down about two minutes into the first round before going through some positions until getting back mount where he rained down strikes to get the TKO. Green took the fight on short notice so he should get a nice payday for his efforts.

The co-main event saw more action between Wellington Turman and Misha Cirkunov.

This was a wild fight as in the first round,  Turman took his back while standing. Misha got him off his back before getting into full guard and unloading with strikes. He later got his back and went for a rear-naked choke then a d’arce choke, but both failed. Moving along to the second round, Turman was taken down, but locked in an armbar out of nowhere for the win.

Glover Teixeira Vs. Jiri Prochazka Moved To UFC 275

Glover Teixeira, Jiri Prochazka

UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira will have to wait a bit longer to put his title on the line against Jiri Prochazka.

It’s unclear what the reasoning is for the push-back, but Teixeira will now face Prochazka at UFC 275 in June. Teixeira announced the news during a recent interview with Canal Combate.

Teixeira earned the title over Jan Blachowicz in a massive upset at UFC 267. At 42-years-old, he has shattered the notion that veterans can’t still compete for UFC titles.

Glover Teixeira Vs. Jiri Prochazka Delayed For Undisclosed Reasons

UFC 275 doesn’t have a specific date or location as of yet, but that could be changed in the coming weeks. The winner of Teixeira vs. Prochazka could face a slew of contenders at 205 pounds.

Prochazka has been on a tear with 12 straight victories, including back-to-back wins over Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes to begin his UFC tenure. Before making it to the UFC and getting the shot against Teixeira, Prochazka earned dominant wins in Rizin over C.B. Dollaway and Fabio Maldonado.

Teixeira has fought all of the top light heavyweights since he first debuted for the promotion back in 2012. After falling short of a title against Jon Jones at UFC 172, Teixeira would win five straight over the likes of Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith to secure the title shot against Blachowicz.

the UFC light heavyweight title picture is quite interesting, to say the least. Santos will face Magomed Ankalaev in just a couple of weeks, and the winner could get either Teixeira or Prochazka next.

Teixeira’s last challenger, Blachowicz will face Aleksandar Rakic later this year. The fight was supposed to take place next month but was called off due to Blachowicz suffering an injury.

What is your prediction for Glover Teixeira vs. Jiri Prochazka?

Electing to strike with Green for the first minute, Makhachev eventually clinched and then locked the hands, securing his first successful takedown with three minutes remaining in the first round. Half guard almost immediately for the Russian.

Establishing mount soon there after, Makhachev began laying down heavy ground strikes, and forced the San Bernardino native to belly out — giving up his back.
