Conor McGregor, Max Holloway

Conor McGregor has deleted a tweet of him staring down Max Holloway as he was about to fight Yair Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 42 on Saturday.

For months now, McGregor and Holloway have taken shots at one another and many thought the fight would happen. Ahead of the Hawaiian’s fight against Rodriguez, McGregor took to social media to stare down Holloway, which was him pretending he was standing across the Octagon from the former featherweight champion. Of course, that added speculation to many thinking the two will rematch sometime in the future once the Irishman is healthy.

After this tweet and Holloway beating Rodriguez by decision, many fans have expressed a desire to see McGregor-Holloway 2 next time out. However, UFC President Dana White doesn’t see the need of making the fight.

“I don’t know what’s next for Max, but it does make sense to see him and Volkanovski again,” White said after UFC Vegas 42. “Conor’s not even – Conor’s still hurt. To even talk about Conor is silly.”

Conor McGregor (22-6) is coming off back-to-back stoppage losses to Dustin Poirier, yet, in the last fight, he broke his leg so he’s still rehabbing that. Prior to the losses to Poirier, he TKO’d Donald Cerrone in his return fight after being submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov. “Notorious” is the former featherweight and lightweight champ with notable wins over José Aldo, Chad Mendes, Eddie Alvarez, Holloway, and Poirier among others.

Max Holloway (23-6) is now on a two-fight winning streak after losing back-to-back fights to Alexander Volkanovski to lose his title. As mentioned, he’s coming off the win over Rodriguez and before that, picked up a dominant five-round beatdown over Calvin Kattar. He’s also the former featherweight champ who has wins over Brian Ortega, José Aldo, Anthony Pettis, Charles Oliveira, and Cub Swanson.

Things are starting to heat up ahead of Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane.

The former teammates are expected to clash at UFC 270 with the winner being crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion.

At UFC 268, Ngannou sensationally snubbed his Gane and his old team as he walked right by them without even glancing in their direction. The moment was caught on camera and has since gone viral, with ‘Bon Gamin’ since speaking about his confusion following the incident.

Fernand Lopez Accuses Francis Ngannou Of Sabotaging His Teammate

Fernand Lopez, who is the head coach at MMA Factory where Ngannou used to train and Gane still does, has added more heat to the rivalry by claiming ‘The Predator’ strategically advised the UFC against signing his next opponent.

“At the time (the start of Ngannou’s career), what I was doing was that every time they (MMA Factory fighters in the UFC) had an interview, I will ask them to drop the name of Francis Ngannou; name-drop him,” Lopez said on The MMA Hour. “So every time that they will get caught in an interview, they will say, ‘Oh, we have so much good talent, you will know, soon enough you will know Francis Ngannou.’ That’s how I was trying to build his name… That’s how I used to push guys.

“As a matter of fact, I did do the same for Ciryl Gane… I tried to sign him with Mick Maynard,” Lopez added. And you know what, Francis went back to Vegas and he said to me, ‘Hey, I had Mick and he asked me if young guy in my gym name Ciryl Gane is good.’ And I said, ‘Oh yeah, he did? He said, ‘Yes, but you know what, because that people in the matchmaking, because they expect me to be very, very dithyrambic on the name of the guy, I didn’t say that, I said he’s a little bit good, but he’s not good yet to go to the UFC.’ That’s coming from Francis Ngannou’s mouth. For him, that’s a strategy to do not have Mick Maynard get suspicious of me and him being on the same page, which is not true.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Gilbert Burns Open To Khamzat Chimaev Fight: ‘That’s A Great Option For Me’

Gilbert BurnsGilbert Burns wants another shot at welterweight gold but is not ruling out a fight against the division’s dangerman Khamzat Chimaev.  ‘Durinho’ who currently holds a UFC record of 12-4, is coming off one of his most impressive wins with a victory over UFC veteran Stephen Thompson with his previous fight being a loss to […]

Gilbert Burns

Gilbert Burns wants another shot at welterweight gold but is not ruling out a fight against the division’s dangerman Khamzat Chimaev.

‘Durinho’ who currently holds a UFC record of 12-4, is coming off one of his most impressive wins with a victory over UFC veteran Stephen Thompson with his previous fight being a loss to champion Kamaru Usman for the 170lb title.

Gilbert Burns Believes His Fellow Title Contenders Are Ducking Him

Speaking to MMA Junkie Burns has expressed his desire for a fight with Colby Covington who is coming off a second loss to Usman, both fighters being highly ranked in the division this fight does seem perfect for the both of them.

“For Colby, the perfect would be me,” Burns said. “That’s the fight that I want. He knows that I want it. But when it’s the time to call out a guy, when it’s time to pick an opponent, they don’t pick me. I think they know why. Leon (Edwards) never says my name. Colby never says my name. (Jorge) Masvidal never says my name. It’s for a reason, and they know why.

“I do know I lost that title fight, but I’ve been doing a lot of great things in that division, and they know that. So that’s what I’m looking at. I’ll be ready. Colby, Masvidal, Leon, even Khamzat in the future – that’s a great option for me. I never say no for a fight. I still believe (Khamzat has) got to do a little bit more work, but I’m still open to fight any one of these guys.”

Burns has been impressed by Chimaev and is open to taking on the undefeated prospect in the near future.

“I think so. I think he’s real,” Burns said. “I think he’s been tested. People say, ‘Oh, no. He’s just no.’ I think he fought a couple of good fighters. And the other thing, too, the way he beat them.

“Sometimes people don’t understand the matchmaker. Sometimes they feed you. They want new contenders. They want new stars, and they feed a couple guys. But sometimes they don’t destroy the guys the way they should. Even the matchmaker is just like, ‘Hey, feed that guy. He don’t want to eat.’ But he’s been doing a great job, you know, and I think he’s real.

“I think I’m going to face him very soon. I think he needs one more win, and I think he’ll have (the win). And if things keep going like that, like Colby doesn’t even say my name, Masvidal, Leon. Why not? I’ll give him the opportunity.”

Chimaev has taken the UFC by storm with him only having four fights

He first put himself on notice through his debut as a middleweight at UFC Fight Night 172 against John Phillips, winning the bout by submission and out striking his opponent 124 to 2.

Then as a welterweight and at UFC Fight Night 174 ten days after his debut, he would fight Rhys Mckee, winning the fight by TKO out striking him 68-0.

Finally, Borz most recent fight was against highly-ranked welterweight Li Jinglianang which he would win once again in the first round by submission landing him in the top 1- of the welterweight rankings

On Sunday, it was reported that talks are currently ongoing for a fight between Burns and Chimaev.

Do you think Gilbert Burns will be Khamzat Chimaev’s next opponent?

Daniel Cormier

Former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier received some notable flak over the weekend — after he misidentified ‘Eternals’ star, Kumail Nanjiani for the actor-turned-politician, Kalpen Suresh Penn.

Following his tweet in which he misidentified Nanjiani, Cormier received criticism from Kashif Shaikh who urged him to delete his unfactual tweet, where he misidentified Nanjiani for Kalpen Suresh Modi, who played the role of Kumar Patel in the trilogy movie series, Harold & Kumar alongside John Cho who played the role of, Harold Lee.

Daniel Cormier mistakes Kumail Nanjiani for Harold & Kumar star Kalpen Suresh Modi

Finally watching the Eternals and what happened to Harold and Kumar?‘ Cormier tweeted. “Dude is all ripped and sh*t now.

Responding to Cormier, the aforenoted, Shaikh urged the former two-weight champion and UFC color commentator to delete his tweet.

@dc_mma DC [Daniel Cormier],” Shaikh tweeted. “Dude, you’re better than this. Delete this and there’s still time to pretend it didn’t happen.

Cormier owned his mistake and apologized for misidentifying Nanjiani, or “the guy from Silicon Valley“.

Made mistake man,” Cormier tweeted in response to Shaikh. “It’s normal brother I thought it was that guy from Silicon Valley. My apologies.

Shaikh once again responded to Cormier and claimed he was appreciative that the latter addressed the issue, and called him a “good dude” for doing so.

@dc_mma you’re a good dude DC. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional,” Shaikh tweeted. “Appreciate you owning it.

I made a mistake brother and if I upset someone I apologize,” Cormier tweeted. “It was literally a mistake.

ONE Championship heavyweight kingpin, Indian-Canadian-born Arjan Singh Bhullar — a teammate of Cormier at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California — maintained that Cormier was definitely not racist and has respect and love for their culture and people.

@VoidTV4 @kmshaikh @dc_mma He’s def (definitely) no racist and got love for our culture and ppl (people) (100 emoji),” Bhullar tweeted

Cormier thanked Bhullar for his backing regarding the issue — once again reiterating that he had mistakenly misidentified Nanjiani.

Thank you, brother Arjan, I legit made a mistake,” Cormier tweeted. “Much love my brother.”

White Unsure Of Amanda Nunes’s Future At 145lb, May End The Division

Dana White Amanda Nunes

Dana White is not sure about the future of the women’s featherweight division.

While the division has had a total of three champions, women’s 14lb has never had an official rankings list on the UFC’s website. For the most part, champ-champ Amanda Nunes has bounced between the divisions, largely facing featherweight champions from other organizations in her defenses of that title.

Currently, Nunes is set to defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Peña, at UFC 269, and Dana White seems unsure that she will ever return to 145lb. When asked about the featherweight division at the UFC Vegas 42 post-fight presser, the UFC President seemingly said that the decision on whether the UFC gets rid of the division lies in the hands of Nunes, and what she chooses to do after her December 11th fight.

“Yeah, I don’t know. It’s gonna depend on what the champ (Nunes) wants to do. It’s gonna depend. We’ve got this fight coming up with her, and we’ll see how that fight plays out, and then we’ll figure out what we’ll do with that division… Yeah, I don’t know,” White said.

What makes this information interesting to hear at this current point in time, is that PFL lightweight champion and Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison is currently a free agent. This has led to numerous back and forth between her and the UFC, with White regularly dismissing Harrison, saying she should stay with the PFL, where she can win millions without fighting top fighters.

If Amanda Nunes decides that she does not want to continue fighting at featherweight, and Dana White and the UFC drop the division, it will almost certainly end all talks of her and Kayla Harrison fighting each other. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, and what the champ-champ has to say about the situation.

Jon Jones: LHW Experience Will Help Me Be More “Unique” Than Gane

Jon Jones, Ciryl Gane

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has discussed his expected move up to heavyweight in 2022, suggesting “the world isn’t ready.”

Jones is undoubtedly the greatest light heavyweight of all time and is widely regarded as the leading contender in the overall GOAT debate. The two-time 205-pound king became the youngest champion in UFC history with his title victory over Maurício “Shogun” Rua in 2011. Among a host of light heavyweight records, Jones boasts the most title defenses, most wins, and the longest winning streak.

After returning from suspension to regain the belt with a win over Alexander Gustafsson in 2018, Jones went on to defend the gold three times against Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, and Dominick Reyes during his second reign. After a tight decision victory over “The Devastator,” Jones vacated the belt to pursue a move up to heavyweight.

Jones Says The World Isn’t Ready For Heavyweight “Bones”

Jones has now been out of action since last February. In that time, “Bones” has continuously shared training videos and updates on his ongoing transition to the UFC’s heaviest division. After Francis Ngannou dethroned Stipe Miocic earlier this year, most had expected Jones to be the first challenge to the Cameroonian’s reign.

After failed negotiations and a public feud over the promotion’s failure to meet his pay demands, Jones announced that he’d remain on the sidelines until 2022. Despite a troubling arrest for battery domestic violence, Jones’ comeback is seemingly still on track. The 34-year-old was recently spotted training with Henry Cejudo at the Fight Ready gym.

Providing a further update on his heavyweight status, Jones recently interacted with a fan on Twitter. Responding to a question surrounding Ciryl Gane’s abilities, “Bones” admitted the Frenchman is “pretty unique” for a heavyweight, but claimed the world isn’t prepared for the level of uniqueness he’s set to bring to the Octagon in his new weight class.

“I think he’s pretty unique for a heavyweight, I don’t think the world is ready for how unique I’m going to be. I believe my light heavyweight experience will be the biggest difference in my future fights.”

Ciryl Gane is set to clash with current champion Ngannou in a blockbuster unification bout at UFC 270 next year. The general consensus is that Jones will likely face the winner in the second quarter of 2022, a timeframe he confirmed for his divisional debut at the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony in September.
