Former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has seemingly called out UFC fan favourite Nate Diaz.

On Wednesday, Diaz also issued a call out on social media. The 35-year-old was targeting a fight with Dustin Poirier who is fresh off the biggest win of his career. ‘The Diamond’ avenged his UFC 178 loss to Conor McGregor in emphatic fashion on January 23.

Diaz initially took to Twitter to address his fighting future, he wrote.

“NDA (Nick Diaz Academy) soldier 170 lbs Come get you some of the real.”

Diaz quickly bailed on his commitment to the welterweight division with a second post directed at Poirier.

“These are fighting words tho So fuck a weight class,” Diaz wrote alongside a video of Poirier talking from a hospital bed.

Ferguson was quick to respond and took shots at Diaz for b*tching out and offering to fight him at either welterweight or lightweight.

“All You Do Is Bitch Out,” Ferguson wrote. “You Don’t Want No Squabbles From A Real Fighter. 170lbs or 155lbs… SitDown & STFU Casual.”

‘El Cucuy’ is looking to bounce back from a tough 2020. The 36-year-old firstly missed out on a shot at undisputed lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He instead fought Justin Gaethje for the interim belt. ‘The Highlight’ dominated the fight from start to finish. He ultimately forced the TKO stoppage in the fifth and final round.

Ferguson later squared off against Charles Oliveira at UFC 256. The Brazilian used his grappling to dominate Ferguson on the mat for three rounds and pick up a decision win.

Diaz hasn’t fought since falling short in his bid to become the inaugural BMF titleholder at UFC 244 in 2019. In recent weeks he has been strongly linked to a comeback and now it seems of matter of who will be his opponent. Perhaps it will be Tony Ferguson. I’m sure fight fans will love to see it!

Fabricio Werdum is confident he would submit Jon Jones.

Jones is set to make his highly-anticipated heavyweight debut later this year with the expectation that he will face the winner of the UFC 260 headliner between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou.

Many have debated as to how Jones will fare in a heavier weight class with some expecting him to succumb to the power while others believe his skills will translate.

As far as Werdum is concerned, he believes Jones will eventually become the heavyweight champion. And while Werdum is now at PFL, he hopes to become champion there and end up facing Jones in a cross-promotional super fight.

As for how it’ll go? Werdum envisions a submission.

“I believe Jones will be the future UFC heavyweight champion,” Werdum told Sherdog. “If I win the PFL heavyweight grand prix, it would be great to finally fight him in a cross-promotion super fight.

“I have no doubt that if I face Jones in the same shape I fought Gustafsson, I would submit him on the ground.”

There’s no doubt that Werdum can submit just about anyone if he is able to get the fight to the ground. After all, he’s submitted the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Cain Velasquez and Alexander Gustafsson. Whether he can get Jones to the ground is the question, however.

Regardless, it’s hard to see the UFC doing any cross-promotional bout in the near future so all we can do is speculate for the time being.

How do you see a Werdum vs. Jones fight going at heavyweight?

Joanna Jedrzejczyk fired back at Stephen A. Smith for his latest comments.

The controversial ESPN commentator recently made headlines when he stated that he wasn’t a fan of women in combat sports.

“When I think about pugilistic sports, I don’t like seeing women involved in that at all,” Smith said. “I just don’t like it. I wouldn’t promote legislating laws to prohibit them from doing so, but I don’t want to see women punching each other in the face.

“I don’t want to see women fighting in the octagon and stuff like that, but that’s just me. What I would adamantly be against is them fighting men. I don’t think that’s cool. Plus, you don’t ever want to give men license to believe that it’s all right to be physical with a woman, to be quite honest with you. You don’t want to do that.”

Those comments naturally saw Smith come under fire from many in the combat sports world. And former UFC women’s strawweight champion Jedrzejczyk decided to personally respond to him on Wednesday.

“I appreciate your transparency @stephenasmith . Although I wish everyone at ESPN—and throughout the world—saw women’s sports in a positive light, I assure you that we women don’t need your support.”

Smith hasn’t responded as of yet, but much like the criticism directed at him last year for his comments on Donald Cerrone, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he clarified his comments soon.

Conor McGregor broke down his defeat to Dustin Poirier at length.

McGregor suffered the first knockout loss of his career after falling to Poirier in the second round of their UFC 257 headliner last month.

Following the setback, McGregor cited inactivity as a factor for his defeat in addition to the leg kicks Poirier landed on him throughout the bout.

However, another factor was the boxing mindset McGregor went into the fight with as he was planning on facing Manny Pacquiao afterwards. That particular revelation explained why McGregor was in a flat-footed boxing stance for long periods of the fight.

Regardless, the Irishman is excited about the prospect of a potential trilogy with Poirier in the future.

“Some highlights from my last fight! What a trilogy I now have on my hands. Exciting!” McGregor wrote on Instagram. “With a handle on the leg kicks I will get back to having fun in there. I was in second gear cruising this fight. Best condition I’ve ever been in. After the wrestling and clinch exchanges my shots still held their pop. First time for me with this so I am very encouraged to keep going. It was the first time I did not use/nor need the stool between rounds also. I did need the stool after tho that’s for sure.

“I am extremely happy I did not need to use the stool between rounds here anyway. Another first for me! I am most certainly on the right path. Despite the loss I am on the correct path of evolution. Thoughts on the bout: I enjoyed racking up some more time inside the famed UFC Octagon. 40 seconds in 3 years is all I’d had up to this bout. I was savouring very second and enjoying my work. A little single disciplined in my approach and stance with mostly boxing. It’s what I get for picking this bout and opponent as a precursor to a boxing match against Pacman. I deserved to get the legs kicked off me going in with this thinking. This is not the game to play around with.

“Besides this tho my shots where sharp and I was in full control. Albeit the leg attacks where building up on me throughout the course. 18 in total thrown at me, with the final one buckling my leg fully, that was that. The peroneal nerve compromised. Fascinating! First time to experience it. Then a tremendous finishing flurry by my opponent. Hats off! A well fought fight by The Diamond. 1 a piece now with a Trilogy bout for all the marbles! Wow! Exciting! Not a trilogy I was expecting, nor the tactical affair I was anticipating, but I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t meant to be. This is exactly how this was always meant to be! Buzzing!!”

Whether McGregor gets a trilogy remains to be seen.

One would imagine it would be for a title as Poirier is undoubtedly the uncrowned champion of the lightweight division as he’s been claiming. Then again, McGregor getting a title shot on a two-fight losing streak in the division would not be well-received at all.

Regardless, a trilogy is seemingly what Poirier wants as well as as he tweeted soon after.

“You know we are going to do it a 3rd time ?

Do you think we’ll get the trilogy next? And will it be for a title?
