Jorge Masvidal wants to fight Conor McGregor, but he’s in no rush to do so.

Masvidal has been a long-rumored opponent of the Irish superstar, but those talks vamped up even more so after McGregor’s return last weekend. McGregor headlined UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in a welterweight bout with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The former two-division champion only needed 40 seconds to put Cerrone away with a beautiful performance.

“Gamebred” was front-and-center in the crowd, watching the action unfold. However, Masvidal, nor anyone else, was specifically called out by McGregor after his win. Speaking to the “Le Batard & Friends” podcast, Masvidal said he doesn’t think McGregor is ready for him.

The UFC’s BMF Champ won’t be losing any sleep if that’s the case, as he’s more than willing to move on to a potential UFC welterweight championship fight with current titleholder Kamaru Usman. (H/T MMA Fighting)

“He’s talking a lot of sh*t. But it’s all sh*t cause he doesn’t want this,” Masvidal said. “He could have cut the sickest promo — he could have cut the sickest promo of life. Had everybody extra wanting it and talking about it. We kind of understand where they’re going. Certain things he said on the microphone as well that he doesn’t feel he’s not up to speed, that he needs to work on this, he needs to work on that.

“I get it, man. Go back in there, find your timing, when you feel you’re ready for the challenge, we do it. There’s no rush. I’ll go get my title meanwhile. I’ll go f*ck up [Kamaru] Usman meanwhile, and then me and Conor can talk in the future if he wants to or not. It doesn’t really matter. I’m not here to bully people into fights or keep asking for the fight. I’m going to go about my business like I said I always will.”

Masvidal comes off a Fighter Of The Year run in 2019, in which he finished all three of his opponents. The first being Darren Till, who Masvidal knocked out in dramatic fashion in front of Till’s own native English crowd. He followed that up with a record-breaking five-second knockout of Ben Askren, ending “Funky’s” undefeated streak.

And finally, Masvidal picked up a TKO win over Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in November, following a Doctor Stoppage, to win the BMF Championship. With the tremendous amount of hype carried into 2020 by Masvidal, it should be noted that, whatever the American Top Team (ATT) product decides to do, it’s going to be huge.

What do you think about Masvidal saying he’ll “f*ck up” Usman while he waits for McGregor?

Jimmie Rivera will not be fighting Marlon Vera at UFC 247.

MMA Junkie has confirmed that Rivera pulled from the scheduled bout due to an undisclosed injury. The UFC has not yet made an official announcement. It also remains unknown if Vera will stay on the card or receive a new opponent. UFC 247 goes down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on February 8.

The card is headlined by a light heavyweight championship bout between defending champion Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes. Rivera is currently on a two-fight losing streak to names such as Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan. At one point in his career, Rivera was on a 20-fight win streak, not having lost since 2008. However, in June of 2018, Marlon Moraes ended that with a first-round knockout via head-kick.

After picking up a decision win over John Dodson the following September, Rivera is now on a two-fight losing skid. As for Vera, the No. 14-ranked bantamweight is on a five-fight win streak. A win over a name like Rivera will certainly propel him into a new tier of competition.

Check out the updated UFC 247 card below.

Main Card (PPV, 10 p.m. ET):

  • Light heavyweight: (C) Jon Jones vs. Dominick Reyes
  • Women’s flyweight: (C) Valentina Shevchenko vs. Katlyn Chookagian

Conor McGregor made a statement in his return to mixed martial arts (MMA) competition last weekend (Sat. January 18, 2020).

McGregor headlined the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, taking on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight bout. It only took the Irishman 40 seconds to get the job done, after spending over a year away from active competition. His last fight was a 2018 submission loss to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

In his return Saturday night, McGregor came out hard with a big left hand, which Cerrone ducked under, but ran right into “Notorious’” knee. After a clinch, McGregor nailed Cerrone with several hard shoulder shots, which fractured Cerrone’s nose and orbital bone. Upon separation, McGregor blocked a head-kick from “Cowboy,” before landing a big one of his own which dropped Cerrone.

After some nasty ground-and-pound, the referee waved the action off. It was McGregor’s first victory in combat sports competition since November of 2016 when he beat Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC’s 155-pound champion, and the first-ever two-division champ in UFC history. Now, the UFC has released its “UFC 246: The Thrill and the Agony – Sneak Peek” video on its official YouTube channel.

In the video, fans can hear exactly what McGregor said to Cerrone seconds after TKO’ing him. Here’s what the Irishman had to say.

“I love you Donald,” McGregor said. “Those shoulder shots broke it [nose] eh?”

McGregor then had an exchange of words with Cerrone’s grandmother. Here’s what McGregor told “Cowboy’s” grandma.

“I have respect for you. So much respect for you. You raised a hell of a boy. You should be proud I’m serious.”

A nice show of respect from two great fighters. You can check out the full video in the player below.

What do you make of McGregor’s comments to Cerrone after finishing him at UFC 246?
