Cormier Vows To KO Rumble In Rematch: “You Don’t Hit As Hard As People Think”

The trash-talk between Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Daniel Cormier on social media continued on Friday, with both fighters debating when and where they will meet and D.C. issuing an incredibly bold prediction on how the fight will go.

After challenging Cormier to a rematch at the UFC 205 show in November in New York, D.C. told the knockout artist that he would have to wait until UFC 207 in Las Vegas in December, but that he would be next because he’s not going to wait around for Jon Jones.

The fun continued on Friday as Rumble and Cormier went back-and-forth a number of times on social media. During the Twitter exchanges, Rumble continued to push for the fight to take place at the historic UFC 205 event that will see the Octagon in the middle of the world-famous Madison Square Garden arena for the first-ever UFC event in the state of New York.

Meanwhile, Cormier continues to insist that he will give him the shot at the UFC 207 pay-per-view, rumored to include Cormier’s teammate and friend Cain Velasquez finally fighting the man who ended his UFC Heavyweight Championship reign, fellow former UFC Heavyweight title holder Fabricio Werdum.

Oh yeah, D.C. also tossed in a bold prediction.

“December 30th I’ll be waiting for ya,” wrote Cormier. “No wrestling! I’ll give [you] a shot. I’m gonna knock you out!”

The reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, who won via decision in their first meeting, continued, “Truth [is] I’ll knock you out before [you] knock me out. [You] don’t hit as hard as people think. I’ll stand right in front of [you].”

So what did Rumble, who just knocked out dangerous striker Glover Teixeira in just 13 seconds at last month’s UFC 202 pay-per-view, think about Cormier’s claim that he doesn’t hit hard and that it will be D.C, not Rumble, who wins by knockout in their rematch?

“Man, hush,” said Johnson. Before closing with a “#RumbleCares” hash-tag, Johnson concluded, “Just stop, please.”

Luke Rockhold Reveals UFC Contract Changes: “I Need To Get F*cking Paid”

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold recently spoke about turning down a fight offer from the UFC because “the money was bullsh*t,” only for the UFC to announce days later that he would be returning against Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

Rockhold explained during his recent appearance on the Extra Rounds Podcast that the reason he now has a signed fight against Jacare is because he and the UFC restructured some points in his deal.

“I signed my contract with the UFC back before I fought Machida. I had confidence in myself to win the title and I thought that I’d find myself in a better situation but the contract fell back – before I was able to restructure it – to a place where I wasn’t really happy with it. Seeing what I fell back to and knowing what I’ve accomplished and my credibility in the sport, I wasn’t happy with what they were offering. It’s gonna take more than that to get me to fight. I’ve got other avenues outside the sport, and I’m not gonna go fight when it’s not worth it. I gotta get my due, I’ve gotta get my worth. No matter how much I love fight, and what I’m doing out here, I need to get f*cking paid.”

With the UFC being sold to new owners WME | IMG for a reported $4 billion, more and more fighters have been looking to get more out of their contracts with the company. As Rockhold explains, things are in a “transitional period.”

“I think we’re in a transition period. I think there’s definitely positive change in the sport and people are starting to realize it’s about leverage in the right situation and understanding your worth… These guys are trying to keep you down on these paychecks, keep you hungry, keep you needing more.”

Now that he has the paperwork figured out and a fight lined up, Rockhold also made it clear he has one thing he has focused on accomplishing — recapturing his UFC Middleweight Championship.

“They restructured the deal for the time being, and so we got a new contract. We got a new contract upping the money, and we got the right fight so I think this will be the best fight for me right now to get me back to the title. I think we’re clearly the best two guys in the division, so this will solidify myself to going back and getting my gold back.”

Dustin Poirier turned pro at 18 years old and has spent the last nine years of his life carving out a spot in the world of MMA.

But outside of the Octagon, “The Diamond” believes his family is helping him balance things.

Poirier takes on Michael Johnson Saturday night in the main event of UFC Fight Night 94. He’s won four straight, including three finishes in those bouts.

“I’m 27 years old, I’ve been in the game, fighting non-stop for nine years, this is my 18th appearance on the big stage and I’ve matured as a person,” he said. “I’m a father now, I’m comfortable with who I am, not that I didn’t believe in myself before, but now I know. As I get older, I realize that fighting is my life, but I’m not all the way in like I was before. I was lost in it.

“It’s part of my life, but it’s not who I am. I’m a father, I’m a son, a husband. It’s part of who I am, it’s not who I am.”

Poirier has picked up wins over Bobby Green, Joseph Duffy, Yancy Medeiros and Carlos Diego Ferreira since a move up to lightweight after a loss to Conor McGregor, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, in 2014.
