There’s no place for CM Punk to go from here but back to training and the drawing board after his UFC 203 loss to Mickey Gall.
While some believe that was it as far as an MMA career goes for the former WWE superstar, Punk – who’s real name is Phil Brooks – still believes the best is yet to come.
“It was the time of my life. I feel I’m better than I showed,” Punk said. “Hats off to Mickey. He’s an up-and-comer. I’ve got some things to remember this from.”
After signing with the UFC after leaving the WWE, many questioned if Punk would even get inside the Octagon. He worked with Roufusport and Duke Roufus ahead of the debut, but was quickly taken down by Gall and finished two minutes later.
While his next fight remains a mystery, Punk said one thing is for sure in his future.
“There’s a lot of food in my future,” he said. “I’ll take a little vacation from the gym which means that I’ll probably be back in there on Tuesday. I want to do better.”

Stipe Miocic scored his first successful UFC heavyweight title defense this past weekend at UFC 203 over Alistair Overeem, finishing the former Strikeforce champion in the first round.
So, what’s next for Miocic? While UFC president Dana White declined to state any potential bouts, Daniel Cormier and Dan Hardy discussed the possibilities on the post-fight show.
“Cain Velasquez vs. Stipe Miocic is the best fight we could put on,” Cormier said of his AKA teammate and close friend. “I believe these are the two best in the division. The heavyweight division is moving fast right now, and Junior Dos Santos looked great as well, until he got hurt.”
Velasquez scored a recent win over Travis Browne, finishing him in the first round and improving to 5-1 over his last six. The lone loss during that time came to Fabricio Werdum for the title last year.
That’s the person Hardy believes should be next. Werdum rebounded from his knockout loss to Miocic for the belt by scoring a decision over Browne.
“I’d like to see Fabricio Werdum fight him again,” Hardy said. “He didn’t look great, but we know he’s better. He just lost the title to Miocic. Let them fight on neutral territory. Then there’s Josh Barnett, who just won last week. It’s time to push him up to a title fight.”
