Ronda Rousey’s level of incredible fame is once again on display, as Time Magazine has included her in their list of options to vote for in their poll of the “100 Most Influential People In The World.”

The official website of Time Magazine, Time.com, wrote the following:

“Even after her stunning loss to Holly Holm, the UFC fighter and former bantamweight champion continues to thrive outside the ring, landing a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover and cementing her place as an outspoken advocate of body positivity.”

As noted, Rousey is expected to make her Octagon return near the end of this year. While her opponent for her return fight is unknown at this time, the current belief is that Rousey will be involved in either one of two fights.

Either Rousey will compete against Holly Holm in a rematch of her last fight, which she lost — the first pro MMA defeat of her career — or she will challenge the winner of the Miesha Tate vs. Amanda Nunes fight at UFC 200 for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.

Holly Holm Says It’s Possible UFC Is Going With Rousey-Holm II Next

While the fight she has wanted since UFC 196 ended last month was an immediate rematch against Miesha Tate for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Holly Holm might be sitting on the sidelines until mega star Ronda Rousey makes her UFC return, as it’s starting to look like Rousey-Holm II is the direction things are headed.

As noted, Tate will be defending her UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title for the first time against highly regarded contender Amanda Nunes at the landmark UFC 200 event on July 9th.

On Monday, Holm spoke with Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com and admitted that she might have to wait for Rousey’s return before she gets back into the Octagon.

“It’s very possible [they make me wait for Rousey]. I don’t know what their real thinking is, but they’re obviously a successful business for a reason. They’re a successful promotion. They usually have their reasons behind everything.”

According to Holm, if she does get a chance to fight the Tate-Nunes winner — and she openly admitted she is routing for Tate to win — she will be ready to take that opportunity.

“I’ll be ready either way,” Holm said. “If I rematch with Ronda, I’m gonna train my butt off. If I rematch with Tate, I’m gonna train my butt off. If they give me one of the other top girls in the meantime, I’m gonna train my butt off.

“I feel like at this point, not having the rematch, which is what I really wanted, I kind of just changed my train of thought to just be open to whatever. I don’t want to be so focused on that that if something else comes my way that I don’t take advantage of the opportunity.”

Another UFC Fight Night 85 Fighter Tests Positive

viscardi-andrade

Viscardi Andrade has been notified that a drug test given to the USADA ahead of his bout with Richard Walsh at UFC Fight Night 85: Mir vs. Hunt last month has tested positive.

Andrade provided the sample to a WADA accredited laboratory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil a few weeks prior to his win over Walsh in Australia.

The Brazilian is 19-6 in his career and 3-1 in the UFC, with two of his victories coming via decision.

Below is the complete press release from the UFC:

The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Viscardi Andrade of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on March 7, 2016. The sample was collected from Andrade in Brazil and analyzed at the WADA accredited laboratory in Rio de Janeiro, and recently reported to USADA as containing a prohibited substance.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Andrade. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed, including any ruling on Andrade’s victory over Richard Walsh in Brisbane, Australia on March 20, 2016.

Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.

As noted, Portuguese fighter Joao Carvalho died just 48 hours after being knocked out by Irish fighter Charlie Ward at a Total Extreme Fighting event on Saturday evening. On Tuesday, Ireland’s biggest MMA star and Ward’s teammate, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor commented on the tragedy.

The UFC Featherweight Champion took to social media, posting the following on his official Facebook page about Carvalho’s death, as well as being ringside for the fight.

For more on Joao Carvalho’s tragic passing, as well as video footage of the final minute of the Carvalho-Ward fight from the TEF event this past Saturday night, click here.

Terrible news regarding Joao Carvalho. To see a young man doing what he loves, competing for a chance at a better life, and then to have it taken away is truly heartbreaking.

We are just men and women doing something we love in the hope of a better life for ourselves and our families. Nobody involved in combat sports of any kind wants to see this. It is such a rare occurrence that I don’t know how to take this.

I was ringside supporting my teammate, and the fight was so back and forth, that I just can’t understand it.

My condolences go out to Joao’s family and his team. Their man was a hell of a fighter and will be sorely missed by all.

Combat sport is a crazy game and with the recent incident in boxing and now this in MMA, it is a sad time to be a fighter and a fight fan.

It is easy for those on the outside to criticise our way of living, but for the millions of people around the world who have had their lives, their health, their fitness and their mental strength all changed for the better through combat, this is truly a bitter pill to swallow. We have lost one of us.

I hope we remember Joao as a champion, who pursued his dream doing what he loved, and show him the eternal respect and admiration he deserves.

Rest in peace, Joao.
