John Lineker was initially expected to face Cory Sandhagen at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in Brooklyn last month.

Unfortunately, a hand injury forced “Hands Of Stone” to pull out of the fight. Instead, Sandhagen fought Mario Bautista, who he defeated via armbar in the first round. Now, Lineker and Sandhagen will finally get their chance to throw down. ESPN and MMA Junkie have confirmed Lineker and Sandhagen will fight at UFC Miami from the American Airlines Arena on April 27, 2019.

Lineker is currently on a two-fight win streak. His last appearance inside the cage resulted in a knockout win over Brian Kelleher at UFC 224. After his victory over Bautista, Sandhagen is on a five-fight win streak. Three of those five wins have been in the UFC, as he joined the promotion in January of last year.

Now, Lineker vs. Sandhagen is one of three fights set for UFC on ESPN 3. Paulo Costa vs. Yoel Romero and Glover Teixeira vs. Ion Cutelaba are also expected for the card. We’ll keep you updated as more fights for UFC Miami continue to be announced.

The pairing of the premier mixed martial arts promotion in the world and the worldwide leader in sports continues to be a hit.

According to the sports media giant, the airing of the UFC 234 prelims on ESPN & ESPN Deportes drew the second highest-rated pay-per-view prelims on record:

ESPN Media Zone published an itemized breakdown of the rousing success:

  • UFC 234 PPV Prelims aired on ESPN and ESPN Deportes from 8-10 p.m. and averaged a 1.0 metered market rating
  • Based on preliminary ratings, ESPN’s transmission of the Prelims ties with several other PPV Prelims as the second highest-rated PPV Prelim on record, behind a 1.1 metered market rating for 11/12/16 UFC 205 PPV Prelim (McGregor/Alvarez)
  • Last night’s PPV Prelims were up 100% from the UFC 221 PPV Prelims (Romero/Rockhold) that aired on February 10th, 2018 (0.5 rating)
  • The telecast followed the Virginia/Duke game and peaked with a 1.7 metered market rating and during the Ishihara vs. Kang fight.

UFC 205 prelims still hold the record, albeit by the narrowest of margins. No doubt Conor McGregor helped move the needle for that event.

I know we’re only two months into this partnership, but you would have a hard time arguing the UFC/ESPN deal has been anything but great for the UFC and the sport as a whole thus far.

Two of middleweight’s scariest fighters are rumored to headline UFC on ESPN 3 as Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero are being targeted for a five-round fight.

The UFC is on a matchmaking roll so to speak. It seems like every other day the promotion is announcing a must-see main event. Matchmakers are targeting Costa vs Romero to close out UFC on ESPN 3 at Miami’s American Airlines Arena. Brazil’s Combate first reported the booking and the location

This showdown was originally scheduled for November’s UFC 230 event. However, due to nagging injuries, Romero was forced to withdraw from the contest. They tried booking these two again for last weekend’s UFC on ESPN+ 1 card. But Romero suffered an injury in training camp and was forced to bow out once again.

“Borrachinha” is one of the middleweight division’s most promising prospects. Boasting an unbeaten record of 12-0 the Brazilian powerhouse is riding high after his most recent victory over Uriah Hall at UFC 226.

The “Soldier of God” may be the most accomplished fighter to never hold a UFC middleweight title. He has only dropped two contest in the Octagon, both to the reigning 185-pound champion Robert Whittaker.

Let us know what you think. Assuming this fight actually happens as planned, who wins – Costa or Romero?
