A firefight was promised when featherweight sluggers Jeremy Stephens and Josh Emmett locked horns in the main event of tonight’s (Sat., February 24, 2018) UFC on FOX 28 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

And the main event delivered on that promise in every sense, as it was a back-and-forth war between two of the hardest hitters at 145 pounds from the bell. Emmett flashed his fight-ending power early and caught Stephens with a hard right hook that dropped him to open the gates for a huge elbow on the ground.

Emmett may have been a bit overconfident, however, as he taunted Stephens that he was going down again.

The opposite proved true, with “Lil’ Heathen” landing an accurate counter left hook that hurt Emmett and allowed Stephens to finish the bout with an absolutely brutal series of elbows that put Emmett unconscious in the second round.

Controversy arose after the bout when slow-motion replay showed Stephens may or may not have landed an illegal knee and some hard elbows to the back of Emmett’s head in a chaotic finishing sequence. Either way, “Lil’ Heathen” has yet another knockout win and is inching close to a featherweight title shot.

Highlights: Max Griffin Batters Hometown Favorite Mike Perry

As one of the more outspoken fighters in the UFC today, welterweight slugger ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry took his antics to a new level prior to his main card-opening bout versus Max Griffin at tonight’s (Sat., February 24, 2018) UFC on FOX 28 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, by attempting to pull “Max Pain’s” pants […]

As one of the more outspoken fighters in the UFC today, welterweight slugger ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry took his antics to a new level prior to his main card-opening bout versus Max Griffin at tonight’s (Sat., February 24, 2018) UFC on FOX 28 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, by attempting to pull “Max Pain’s” pants down during yesterday’s weigh-ins.

Yet while Perry may have made more headlines going into the bout, it was Griffin who did more talking with his hands and feet when it was all said and done as he scored the biggest win of his MMA career as the biggest underdog on the card.

He used an evasive, strategic style to stifle the more plodding Perry’s trademark forward pressure, peppering him with accurate jabs from the start to open a cut on “Platinum’s” forehead early and using a high volume of stinging body and leg kicks. Perry did seem to have a slight edge in the grappling department, however, scoring two dragging takedowns to advance a quick back take into mount at the end of the first round.

But Griffin’s continued striking volume and speed enabled him to use his five-inch reach advantage to stay just out of the way of Perry’s monstrous power, to the point where “Platinum” was throwing little and landing less. That lead to a second-round sequence where Griffin dropped Perry with a perfect left hook that appeared to be the beginning of the end for Perry.

He survived and may have even won the last round by landing some big shots and kicks, but it was too little, too late as Griffin upset the Orlando fans by battering and bloodying their hometown fan favorite for the most decorated victory of his mixed martial arts career.

High-stakes ranking positioning in the women’s bantamweight division was on the line when No. 8-ranked Marion Reneau met No. 7-ranked former title challenger Sara McMann on the preliminary card of tonight’s (Sat., February 24, 2018) UFC on FOX 28 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

For the majority of the opening frame, Reneau was dominated by McMann’s patented power wrestling game as she absorbed endless ground and pound when McMann took her down with a big slam and kept going back to a smothering crucifix position.

While she appeared to be tiring from the relentless attack, the second round was a different story, however. Reneau landed a big right hand that wobbled McMann and turned the tide in her favor. The 40-year-old teacher went to work with a barrage of effective elbows, punches, and knees that left McMann no choice but to resort back to her wrestling.

When she did, Reneau locked up a swift triangle choke following a takedown, taking her time to lock it in and earn an ultra-impressive comeback submission for her biggest victory of all-time in an amazing fight.

Known for his colorful, unique personality both in and outside of the Octagon, welterweight slugger “Platinum” Mike Perry continued to garner eyeballs when he squared off with opponent Max Griffin at yesterday’s UFC on FOX 28 ceremonial weigh-ins from Orlando, Florida.

And he did it in a strange way that was a first in the UFC.

“Platinum” de-pantsed Griffin in a scene reminiscent of a high school bullying that’s drawn reactions where many questioned if behavior like it was good for MMA to those who thought it was hilarious.

Check it out on the UFC’s Instagram:

Griffin was able to block the attempt, however, keeping his pants up in front of the Florida fans.

After the weigh-ins later that night, Perry lashed back at those who criticized his attempted de-pantsing of Griffin, posting the following seething backlash:

Few, if any, are able to rile up the MMA fanbase like the polarizing “Platinum” is, and no matter what you think about his even controversial removal of an opponent’s clothing, it cannot be denied that he gets the fight world talking.

Looking for a big rebound win after dropping his last fight to rising Brazilian contender Santiago Ponzinibbio, Perry will take on Griffin in the opening main card bout of tonight’s (Sat., February 24, 2018) UFC on FOX 28 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

Big FOX cards haven’t exactly brought in the biggest ratings as of late, so we’ll see if Perry can translate that vitriol into fans tuning in to watch him fight.
