*Fingers Crossed* Guida vs. Hioki, Grant vs. Wiman, + More Added to Stacked UFC on FOX 6 Card

(We know, Clay, we had a hard time watching your last fight too.)

It’s looking like the crippling power of this year’s injury curse is going to be tested early come 2013, because the UFC’s first major network event of the year is currently stacked with more budding talent than a Miss Teen USA pageant. Aside from the Cerrone/Pettis, Jackson/Teixeira, and Dodson/Johnson fights that were announced earlier this week, the UFC has recently announced that Clay Guida will be making his featherweight debut again Hatsu Hioki at the same event as well.

Guida’s last performance saw him channel Steve Prefontaine for the majority of five rounds against Gray Maynard at UFC on FX 4, earning him his second straight loss at lightweight following his much more exciting loss to current champion Benson Henderson at the inaugural UFC on FOX event.

Despite the fact that he is coming off a close decision loss to Ricardo Lamas at the same event, there’s no denying that Hioki is still considered to be one of the top contenders at 145, so a win over Hatsu is not only essential for Guida — he has never dropped three straight in his MMA career — but would easily launch him up the list of potential contenders to boot. Let’s just hope he brings a more aggressive strategy against Hioki or we could be in for a long three rounds.

Elsewhere on the card…

A matchup between surging lightweights T.J. Grant and Matt Wiman is also in the works for the UFC’s return to Fox. Despite fighting in the UFC for over three years, one could argue that Grant finally had his coming out party in his last fight against Evan Dunham at UFC 152. The submission specialist actually managed to outstrike the striker for the majority of the fight, mutilating Dunham’s face worse than Mark Dacascos does a Japanese accent en route to a unanimous decision victory. It was Grant’s third straight victory since dropping to lightweight and sixth overall under the Zuffa banner. Wiman is also coming off the biggest win of his career, having submitted undefeated submission whiz Paul Sass via first round armbar at UFC on FUEL 5 in his last octagon appearance. The TUF 5 alum has now won 5 of his last 6 fights.

And finally, the featherweight pairing of two top contenders in Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas — which was originally reported to be transpiring at UFC 155 — has also been added to the January 26th Fox card. No word yet on whether or not the UFC will bring the winner of the Guida/Hikoi fight into the octagon afterward to engage in a good old fashioned staged confrontation, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

Oh yeah, a heavyweight matchup between Mike Russow and Shawn Jordan has also been added to UFC on Fox 6, but judging by their last performances, you probably couldn’t give a shit.

Now here’s a cat attacking a small child. Good day.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson made good on his word about an upcoming bout with Glover Teixeira.

The UFC’s official webpage confirmed Wednesday night that Jackson vs. Teixeira has been added to UFC on FOX 6, the first major UFC card for 2013.

Rampage tipped the fans off about the Jan. 26 card, which takes place at the Chicago, Illinois United Center, with a tweet he sent out on Tuesday.

Outside the cage I hate no one. Life is too short for that. In side the cage my Job is to destroy! Glover is done on Jan 26 n Chicago..

The top-tier 205-pounders were originally scheduled to face off at UFC 153, but Teixeira instead ended up defeating Fabio Maldonado on the card since Jackson withdrew from the bout with an elbow injury.

Teixeira comes into the bout riding an incredible 17-fight win streak, including two finishes in the Octagon, while Jackson has lost back-to-back fights to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Ryan Bader

UFC.com also reports several other new and exciting bouts added to the card, including a showdown between lightweight contenders Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis and the featherweight debut of Clay Guida, who takes on Hatsu Hioki

While Jones is currently set to defend his title against Chael Sonnen on April 27, the winner of Rampage-Teixeira will likely immediately enter the title conversation at 205 pounds.

The UFC on Fox 6 card in Chicago is filling up quickly, as three new fights have been added to the card.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that three Illinois natives will have secured spots on the card. Those three fighters are heavyweight Mike Russow, newly it dropped featherweight Clay Guida and featherweight Ricardo Lamas.

Guida made the drop to featherweight after a long run at lightweight. He will meet Hatsu Hioki, a long-time Japanese featherweight staple who steps on Guida‘s home turf.

Guida dropped his last two lightweight fights in a row, dropping decisions to Benson Henderson (the UFC lightweight champion) and former top contender Gray Maynard.

Meanwhile, Hioki is 2-1 since entering the UFC. His latest outing saw him lose to Lamas by decision.

Lamas will be fighting on the card, looking to move one step closer to a featherweight title shot. He meets Erik Koch in a fight that was moved from UFC 155.

Lamas is 3-0 in the UFC, beating the likes of Matt Grice, Cub Swanson and Hioki. With a resume like that, he could be on his way to the top soon.

Koch trains out of Milwaukee, so this will be close to home for him as well. Koch is 2-0 in the UFC, beating Raphael Assuncao and Jonathan Brookins on his journey.

Lastly, Russow will meet Shawn Jordan at heavyweight. The former Chicago cop is looking to come back from a loss to Fabricio Werdum in his last fight, which snapped a 4-0 run in the UFC.

Jordan is 1-1 in the UFC and coming off a stinker of a loss to Cheick Kongo. Previous to that, he made a successful debut against Oli Thompson.

It is not certain where these fights will take place on the card, but with the star power so far, they will likely be on the prelims.

‘UFC on FOX 6? Announced With Flyweight Title Fight, Cerrone vs. Pettis; Rampage/Teixeira Also Reported

(…sit back there and say his jacket ain’t luxurious when you know it is, bitch.)

The UFC announced yesterday that its next UFC on FOX event — slated for January 26 at Chicago’s United Center — will be headlined by Demetrious Johnson‘s first flyweight title defense against TUF 14 winner John Dodson. Dodson has gone 2-0 at 125 pounds since his stint on the reality show, including his recent TKO of top contender Jussier Formiga.

But hey, maybe you don’t care about that sort of thing. Luckily, the UFC also confirmed that UFC on FOX 6 will feature the long-rumored lightweight tilt (and possible #1 contender match) between Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis, a guaranteed barnburner for which Cerrone has already promised to “pack a lunch.” Considering that Pettis has been out of action since February due to injuries, Cowboy might be the favorite here. Of course if he wins, Cerrone could be booked against a guy who already beat him twice in the WEC, or a guy who punked him as badly as any UFC fighter has ever been punked — which makes us wonder if this is one of those “#1 contender match for one guy but not necessarily the other”-type scenarios.

But wait, there’s more…

Though it hasn’t been formally announced by the promotion yet, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson let the cat out of the bag via twitter that his match against Glover Teixeira is a go for the 1/26 event. The two light-heavyweight bangers were originally supposed to meet at UFC 153 in Rio, but Rampage injured his elbow before the match, which has given him a lot of free time to complain and complain and complain.

Just like December’s UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Diaz card, it’s a pay-per-view caliber lineup that we’ll be getting for free. Early predictions: Johnson/Dodson goes to decision, Cerrone/Pettis wins Fight of the Night, and Rampage blames his impending loss on an injury. Fine, call me a hater — but see if I’m wrong.

With the announcement of a fight between Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis in Chicago on January 26, I have been salivating at the possibilities that this card brings. Yes, I am an Illinois native living quite close to Chicago.

Cerrone-Pettis is a great start, and Chicago is a great place for Pettis to fight. Training and living in Milwaukee, Wis., he will be close to home for this fight.

With that, here is a card full of fighters from the Midwest that could complete the card.
