This weekend’s UFC on Fox 8 event will feature an intense welterweight clash between Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger. The bout will function as the card’s co-main event and will play a decisive role in shaping the formation of the 170-pound landscape as we move through the second half of 2013.
Coming into the bout, the 24-year-old MacDonald is riding a four-fight win streak and will be looking to add another big name to his growing hit list. Last time out it was the legendary, though declining B.J. Penn. This time he is seeking victory over a dangerous foe at the peak of his game.
Ellenberger has won back-to-back fights and eight of his last nine. A win over MacDonald at UFC on Fox 8 may be enough to earn him a crack at the welterweight title, but of course, that’s far from a given. Either way, he’ll have to concentrate on his opponent, not the consequence of the fight’s outcome. For all his success inside the Octagon, Ellenberger’s toughest challenge since Carlos Condit may very come this Saturday.
Here we will take a look at the MacDonald vs. Ellenberger matchup and examine how it is likely to play out. We will assess which fighter has an edge in each of the striking, wrestling, and grappling and submission areas of the game and use those assessments to project the probable outcome.

This has especially become far too true for fighters in that the UFC is making roster space, as showcased with their large amount of cuts. They have come at the expense bottom of the barrel guys, as well as former headliners like Jon Fitch.
Approaching UFC on Fox 8, it is certain some men will not have their job following their fight. Here is a look at who may be on the chopping block.

Johnson will be fighting in front of a friendly crowd in his backyard of Seattle, Washington.
Moraga earned his title shot with two straight victories inside the Octagon. He stopped former top-10 flyweight Ulysses Gomez and then submitted Chris Cariaso in December. Now he gets to fight the face of the division.
Mighty Mouse was last seen in January on Fox. He made the first successful defense of his title against John Dodson—who happens to be Moraga‘s lone loss.
The two elite flyweights will headline a stacked card that will be brought to your living room live and free on Fox.
This is your breakdown of the upcoming flyweight title bout.

Perhaps it is the never-slowing pace of the flyweight division that Dana White and Co. wish to showcase. After all, the frantic action provided by the UFC’s smallest weight class has delivered some of the most consistently entertaining fights of the last 15 months.
Will it be the flyweights who steal the show on Saturday night? Or will the evening’s other stars be taking home the lucrative fight night bonuses?
Here is a look at the front-runners to win Knockout of the Night, Submission of the Night and Fight of the Night at UFC on Fox 8.

Julie Kedzie will make her UFC debut this coming Saturday at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Moraga.
When the event comes to pass this Saturday, you should definitely cheer for Kedzie.
Her 10-year professional career will finally reach the grandest stage when she meets Germaine deRandamie in a bantamweight clash. They enter as the No. 8- and No. 10-ranked fighters in the organization.
Kedzie has an infectious personality. When she appears on your screen it bleeds through. It’s hard not to smile when she speaks. The positive energy is a welcome change from the type-A personalities that need to be on edge for every fight.
Her personality is a bright spot in the Invicta FC commentary booth. Her knowledge of the sport assists as a color commentator.
She loves the sport, and it shows.
It is also nice to see a pioneer of women’s MMA still active, and still at the top of her game. One of the fighters who helped build this section of the sport gets a chance to live her dream. She will step through the curtains on the biggest stage the sport has to offer. That will be an exciting moment.
Kedzie is currently on a two-fight losing streak. She lost to Alexis Davis via unanimous decision in 2011, and returned to the cage in 2012 against Miesha Tate. Kedzie was on her way to defeat Tate when she was caught in an armbar. She is still one of the best women in the division.
It will be a welcome sight to see Kedzie break that streak.
Her fight with Tate was fantastic. A head kick nearly gave Kedzie the TKO win, but the future UFC bantamweight title challenger was able to survive. Kedzie is still able to compete with the elite of the division, and that gives her an outside shot at climbing the ranks in order to be a future contender herself.
Kedzie will want to take this fight to the mat.
De Randamie is a quality kickboxer who has made the transition to MMA. Her MMA debut was against Vanessa Porto. Not an easy introduction to the sport. She dropped that bout via submission in 2008.
De Randamie is now 3-2 in the sport, and is coming off a victory against HirokoYamanaka in August of last year. She will move back down to 135 pounds now that she is contracted to the UFC. The fight on Saturday should be very fun.
Both women deserve praise before, during and after the fight. However, there is something special about Kedzie. Her bubbly persona will be placed aside for 15 minutes as she gets to work. She already has a stable of fans, but once she appears on the preliminary card for UFC on Fox she will gain even more notoriety.
The women’s MMA pioneer will be one person on the card you will want to stand and cheer for come Saturday.
