Rose Namajunas set to fight Manon Fiorot in flyweight debut at UFC Paris in September

Former two-time undisputed strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas is set to snap her longstanding Octagon hiatus later this year, booking a flyweight debut against surging French contender, Manon Fiorot at UFC Fight Night Paris on September 2. from the Accor Arena.

Namajunas, the current number two ranked strawweight contender, has been sidelined from the Octagon since she co-headlined UFC 274 back in May of last year in Arizona, dropping her undisputed strawweight title in a forgettable championship decision rematch with Carla Esparza.

As for Fiorot, the Nice favorite returns to her native France as the current number two ranked flyweight contender, most recently turning in her fifth consecutive Octagon win in a unanimous decision victory against former title challenger, Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 280 back in October of last year in the Middle East.

Rose Namajunas is set for a division leap in September in a trip to France

MMA Junkie reports, Farah Hannoun, and Nolan King first reported the news of Rose Namajunas’ return and flyweight debut against French favorite, Manon Fiorot.

11-5 as a professional, Namajunas, a staple under the tutelage of both former UFC heavyweight, Pat Barry, and ONX Labs technician, Trevor Wittman, has reclaimed strawweight gold back in April 2021, defeating Chinese favorite and current champion, Zhang Weili with a thunderous high kick KO in just over a minute.

Defending the title against the Hebei native in an immediate championship re-run at UFC 268 of that year at Madison Square Garden, Rose Namajunas managed to land a close split decision win.

Namajunas first struck gold with a shocking upset win over the then-promotional-perfect, Joanna Jedrzejczyk back in 2018 at UFC 223 – also at Madison Square Garden with a stunning first round ground strikes TKO victory.

10-1 as a professional, Fiorot who has shot through the flyweight rankings since her UFC bow back in January 2021, has so far turned in victories over Victoria Leonardo, Tabatha Ricci, Mayra Bueno Silva, as well as former flyweight title challengers, Jennifer Maia, and the aforenoted, Chookagian.

UFC Fight Night Paris takes place on September 2. from the Accor Arena in Paris, France – with a heavyweight main between former interim champion, Ciryl Gane, and Sergei Spivak taking headlining honors.

Khamzat Chimaev calls for return at UFC Paris in September let me smash somebody

Sidelined since September of last year, undefeated welterweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev has called for a return to the Octagon as part of a scheduled UFC Fight NIght Paris card in the promotion’s return to France at the beginning of the month.

Chimaev, the current #4 ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since co-headlining UFC 279 back in September of last year, successfully improving to 12-0 as a professional, submitting Kevin Holland with a first round D’Arce choke.

The victory followed a prior win over one-time welterweight title challenger, Gilbert Burns in April of last year in a close, unanimous decision triumph.

Linked with a middleweight division return off the back of a seven-and-a-half pound weight miss against Holland last September, Khamzat Chimaev has yet to be booked for an outing, despite multiple rumors tying him to a comeback fight at UFC 294 in October in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Khamzat Chimaev calls for September UFC return in Paris

With the Octagon set for its sophomore landing in Paris, France in September, AllStars MMA staple, Chimaev has called for the UFC to book him on the Parisian card, before then returning the following month in the Middle East on ‘Fight Island’.

“I am ready to fight in Paris ready to fight after in Abu Dhabi,” Khamzat Chimaev tweeted. “Let me smash somebody @ufc.”

In the midst of a six-fight winning run since making his Octagon debut back in the summer of 2020, Chimaev, 29, most recently featured in the Middle East back in October 2021, landing a hugely dominant win over Li Jingliang, finishing the Chinese welterweight contender with a first round rear-naked choke submission win.

Over the course of his Octagon tenure, Chimaev has landed five post-fight bonuses from six total bouts – with his September weight miss against Holland leaving him ineligible to win a post-fight bonus.

Renato Moicano Explains Why Five Fighters Have No Business Being Higher Ranked Than Him After UFC Paris Win

Despite his dominant performance against Benoît Saint Denis in the main event this past weekend, Renato Moicano has been left unsatisfied.

The lightweight contender earned his fourth consecutive win but did not move up in the rankings at 155-pounds.

He came into the fight as the #11-ranked contender, facing Saint Denis who was one spot below him following his loss to Dustin Poirier early this year.

“Money” Moicano is still sat on the fringes of the top 10 even after producing his best performance to date, and the Brazilian isn’t happy about that.

Renato Moicano Explains Why He Believes He Should Be The #6-Ranked Lightweight Right Now

Posting on X, Moicano voiced his frustration as to why he hasn’t moved up several places in the rankings.

He made the case that regardless of him beating a fighter that was ranked below him, he should be just outside the top 5 based on his activity.

“If UFC Rankings Aren’t Total Bullshit, I Should Be Ranked #6 in the Lightweight Division Tomorrow. Why? In the last 8 months, I’ve fought 3 times and I’m on a 6-fight win streak in the lightweight division, with 5 stoppages. Yet, ranked above me are:”

Moicano proceeded to name five fighters that he believes he should be above in the rankings, due to their lack of activity and recent form.

Going case-by-case, he gave reasoning for each person that by his logic, would see him jump all the way up to the #6 spot.

“#10 Max Holloway: A legend, but he’s a 145 and will be facing Topuria for the featherweight belt at UFC 308. Even if he loses, his spot in the lightweight rankings makes no sense. He just beat Gaethje, so if anything, he should be ranked #3. I’d gladly take #7 if that was case.”

“#9 Rafael Fiziev: Coming off 2 losses to Mateusz Gamrot and Justin Gaethje. His last fight was in September 2023. #8 Mateusz Gamrot: Coming off a loss to Dan Hooker in August 2024.

“#7 Beneil Dariush: Coming off 2 losses to Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan. His last fight was in December 2023.”

“#6 Michael Chandler: If anyone doesn’t deserve this spot, it’s Michael Chandler. He’s 2-3 in the UFC, coming off a loss to Dustin Poirier in November 2022. Since then, he’s been sitting out, waiting for Conor McGregor’s return, and only now decided to fight Charles Oliveira.”

“There’s no way I’m not #6 in the lightweight division right now.”

During the UFC’s recent return to Paris, France this past weekend, commentator Michael Bisping looked to take in his surroundings during the work trip.

However, as he revealed on social media, his leisure time was disrupted by a thief who attempted to run away with his wife’s bag.

Little did the thief know that he was now going to have to outrun one of the UFC’s all-time great cardio machines.

After tracking him down, the former UFC champion showed restraint, much to the benefit of the man that he had pursued.

He told the story in a video posted on X, claiming that he left him with a swift kick “up the a**” before returning back with the bag.

“Earlier today I had to stop a crime. Sitting there having breakfast with Rebecca in the streets of Montmartre, Paris and some little s*** snatches Rebecca’s bag, runs away. So I chase after him, get a hold of him, he had the bag already hidden in like a towel. Got the bag off him, he didn’t speak a word of English obviously. Didn’t do anything to him, got the bag back, he was s******* his pants, poor guy.”

This situation could have ended very differently if Bisping wasn’t the type of person who was able to be calm in this moment.

The thief likely has no idea what could have happened to him after he stole something from the wrong family, and could have been faced with “left hook Larry” as a result.

MMA fans reacted on social media to Bisping’s retelling of events:

“Bet the little thieving c*** was like this when Bisping stepped to him”

“Out of 8 billion people he picked the a former ufc champion to steal from lmao. He wins the Darwin Award.”

“Imagine being gripped up by a one-eyed, cauliflower eared mob boss looking UFC champion. He must’ve thought it would be his end.”

“Glad you’re both ok and that you got her bag back. Those trail runs and good cardio came in handy.”

“‘I didn’t…. *smirk* I didn’t do anything’”

Renato Moicano’s dominant victory in the main event of UFC Paris this past weekend was made even more impressive by some news that came out in the aftermath.

Kevin Iole shared images of a gruesome shoulder injury that the Brazilian lightweight contender had suffered, as the journalist understood, in the second round against Benoît Saint-Denis.

Moicano, however, later clarified that this was the result of an injury that he had suffered during his training camp, 3 weeks before the fight.

He refused to pull out of the UFC Paris main event and as a result, would end up earning his fourth consecutive win at 155 pounds.

“I hurt my shoulder 3 weeks ago… but I couldn’t pull out of a main event… thank you my team for helping me training like that e get me ready for the fight”

As the x-ray clearly shows, Moicano fought Saint-Denis with a cleanly broken shoulder bone, that jutted out out of skin.

MMA Fans React To Renato Moicano’s Injury Details

MMA fans were already quick to shower Moicano with praise following his devastating display in the French capital.

After taking Saint Denis down early in the fight, he earned a 10-8 round across all three scorecards due to some ruthless ground and pound that led to his opponent wearing significant damage on his face.

The fight was then stopped at the end of the second round after the doctor declared that the Frenchman couldn’t see out of one eye.

On social media, MMA fans reacted to Moicano revealing more details about his injury:

“Moicano’s stock is massively up after last night.”

“Savage. That’s no bs injury neither. Who was the real God of war last night #easymoney

“Mcgregor pulled out for a pinky toe yall”

“I had the same injury… I couldn’t even sleep at night because the pain was too much… idk how he did this against a super tough opponent”

“You hear that? I don’t want to ever hear BSD’s staph excuse again”

“Damn is this why he started to slow down a bit? $$$Moicano”

“When Moicano Wants Money, Moicano is invincible”

“Benoit being like ‘I can see out of my left one’ is SAVAGE”

For the first time, a UFC event will be taking place in the French capital without the country’s only champion to date closing the show.

Mixed martial arts’ leading promotion is back in Paris this week, staging an event in France for the third straight year. The UFC debuted inside the Accor Arena in 2022, just under three years on from the legalization of MMA in the country.

On that night, former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane thrilled his compatriots by knocking out Tai Tuivasa. And “Bon Gamin” repeated the feat last September when he stopped Serghei Spivac with strikes.

This year, however, presents an opportunity for a different French standout to make a splash in the main event spotlight: Benoît Saint Denis.

Six months on from his defeat to Dustin Poirier in Miami, “God of War” will look to bounce back in front of a no doubt rowdy Parisian crowd when he shares the cage with Renato Moicano.

Gane’s Coach Explains Decision Not To Fight At Latest UFC Paris Event

During a recent interview with InsideFighting, coach Fernand Lopez commented on the UFC’s latest visit to his country and the fact that his star student won’t be a part of it this time around.

“We don’t have to talk about it with the UFC coming to Paris. It’s obvious that they want Ciryl to fight in Paris, and I was thinking about Ciryl fighting in Paris. This is what we talked (about doing),” Lopez said. “But an opportunity showed up with a better opponent in terms of ranking, a better opportunity in terms of pay-per-view, and better career constructions to go back to the belt.

“It makes sense for us to accept that opportunity. Ciryl already fought two times in Paris, finished his opponent two times in Paris, and enjoyed the moment to win in Paris,” Lopez continued. “I think for him, it is a new challenge to go to Abu Dhabi, a new different market, and for him to be qualified if they need him for the (title).”

Of course, plans have changed since Lopez made those comments. Gane will no longer have the chance to make a splash in Abu Dhabi next month following the withdrawal of Alexander Volkov through injury.

Instead, the Frenchman looks set for the chance for redemption in Las Vegas, where he was submitted in the opening round by Jon Jones in March 2023. His clash with Volkov is expected to be rescheduled for UFC 310 at the T-Mobile Arena this December.

Meanwhile, Saint Denis has the chance to close the gap on his fellow countryman when it comes to being France’s poster boy for MMA. To do so, he’ll need to return to winning ways at the expense of Moicano this weekend.
