In the UFC Vegas 13 main event, we have an epic light-heavyweight fight with title implications. Thiago Santos returns from his year-long layoff to square off against the streaking Glover Teixeira tonight. Who’ll win? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I almost feel silly picking against Glover Teixeira who has looked so great lately. However, Thiago Santos is a championship level fighter who already holds a win over the current 205lb champion. I believe even after a significant injury and subsequent layoff Santos will be able to get by Teixeira. I actually expect him to score a stoppage quite early in this one.

Prediction: Thiago Santos

Abhinav Kini: This is actually pretty hard to pick for me. While you would naturally go for the more powerful and younger fighter in Thiago Santos, he is coming back from over a year out due to injury and multiple surgeries. It will be interesting to see how he fares upon his return. Glover Teixeira, meanwhile, is on a four-fight winning streak and looks better than he ever has in recent years. He’s also one of the hardest guys to put away. I’m actually going with the upset and picking Teixeira to win. I believe he has more tools and will mix things up and probably get the edge on the ground.

Prediction: Glover Teixeira

Ross Markey: It’s going to be really interesting to see how Thiago Santos returns from his slew of leg and knee injuries suffered in his close title challenge loss to Jon Jones last year. For Glover Teixeira, the veteran is in the form of his recent career, and a victory over his compatriot surely solidifies his status at the next contender at 205-pounds for Jan Blachowicz, after Israel Adesanya of course. While Glover is a patient but very, very slick boxer, evident in his May battering of Anthony Smith, Santos is a wild, explosive Muay Thai practitioner who has laid waste to Jimi Manuwa, common-foe, Smith and of course, holds a knockout win over Blachowicz. I’m picking Thiago Santos to get back to the win column tonight, and in rather fashion via a barrage of strikes.

Prediction: Thiago Santos

Karim Nathan: Santos is one of my favourite fighters to watch so i’m really excited for his return, but you never know how someone is gonna look after all that time out recovering from a devastating injury. Glover on the other hand has been on a very impressive streak in the LHW division and has looked really good especially vs Smith and I feel like he shouldn’t be counted out quickly. However, I think Santos has the heavier hand and I also believe he as the motivation to go and win as he feels he could get the belt since he already stopped the champion previously. So, i’m going with a second round KO win for Santos.

Prediction: Thiago Santos

Harry O’Connor: I’m really looking forward to this fight, I think we will get five solid rounds of fighting, I think it will be fight of the night for sure. I’m going to back Santos, I think as he’s younger and fresher he will edge Glover, who deserves all the credit for being where he is at this age. I think Santos will win this and go on to fight for the Light-Heavyweight title, whether that’s against Jan or Adesanya, we will wait to see. Santos by UD for me.

Prediction: Thiago Santos

In the UFC Vegas 12 main event, we have the #10 ranked middleweight taking on 185lb legend Anderson Silva in what many believe will be the final fight in the career of ‘The Spider”. Will Hall continue his rise into title contention? Or will Silva secure one more highlight-reel finish? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: As far as final fights go this one really isn’t too bad for Anderson Silva. Despite his poor form as of late I don’t think ‘The Spider’ is outmatched in this one. However, I do expect Uriah Hall to emerge victorious tonight. He’s a decent fighter and I don’t see him falling to a 45-year-old. Hall should be able to get the finish – he just needs to go for it.

Prediction: Uriah Hall

Ross Markey: Former middleweight champion, Anderson Silva seems to be in two-minds regarding his future beyond tonight’s UFC Vegas 12 headliner opposite, Uriah Hall. He’s explained previously how he plans on bowing out tonight, but he’s also noted how this fight may be just his last under the UFC’s banner. For Hall, the TUF finalist is in a rich-vein of form at this moment, scoring three wins in his last four, and while a stunning, throwback performance from Silva would serve as an ideal way to cap off his career or even his UFC run, Hall should have the timing and ability to stop Silva within the opening two-rounds.

Prediction: Uriah Hall

Harry O’Connor:

How nice would it be if Anderson Silva picked up a win in a UFC main event at the age of 45, the fact that he’s still headlining UFC cards are this age is unreal. I think this will very much be a case of Uriah Hall being the younger and fresher man, we know the power he carries and you can’t help but feel with Silva’s age, he’s going to get tagged and I think it will only be a matter of time before he is put away. I’m going to go with Uriah Hall via KO in round 2.

Prediction: Uriah Hall

Karim Nathan: I think this is a very tough one to predict how it goes. Silva is obviously not the same as he used to be but however he just went toe to toe with the current champ, while Hall has been undefeated since changing camps but also not against elite competition. Hall will have the speed advantage so I think that will be enough for him to grab a decision win.

Prediction: Uriah Hall

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje – UFC 254 Staff Predictions

UFC 254 is finally upon us! Long-time lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov will attempt to unify the division for the second time in as many fights when he takes on interim titleholder Justin Gaethje in tonight’s main event. Who’ll emerge the winner? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: As this fight creeps closer I feel more definite in my backing of Khabib Nurmagomedov. ‘The Eagle’ is clearly a sensational fighter with a game that no-one has been able to figure out as of yet. While Justin Gaethje is game and apparently has brilliant wrestling, I just don’t see him being able to keep Khabib off of him. I expect the Russian to get the takedown as he often does and ultimately pick up a submission win in the mid to late rounds at UFC 254.

Prediction: Khabib Nurmagomedov

Abhinav Kini: Justin Gaethje has said a lot in the buildup that has somewhat persuaded me to believe he can do what no other fighter has done to Khabib Nurmagomedov. But despite that and his overall wrestling credentials, MMA wrestling is a whole other story and I feel Nurmagomedov will be able to take and keep Gaethje down. The grappling exchanges should be interesting but I still see this going the way of the champion who should go 29-0. Khabib by unanimous decision.

Prediction: Khabib Nurmagomedov

Karim Nathan: I believe that Gaethje 100% is the toughest ever challenge for Khabib, he has heavy hands and mixed in with his fight IQ and wrestling credentials he has the potential to cause Khabib problems, however saying that I still believe that Khabib will be relentless with his takedowns and eventually get it and control Gaethje on the ground. Going with a Khabib win via unanimous decision

Prediction: Khabib Nurmagomedov

Harry O’Connor: Gaethje is Khabib’s toughest opponent on paper, hands down. Up until a few days ago I thought he may have a chance to win. I just can’t go against Khabib, I’ve never seen anyone dominate people the way he does. It’s inevitable he’s going to get Justin against the fence and take him down, once he’s down, Justin begins to get tired and Khabib starts to go through the levels with the ground and pound, I think Khabib will submit Gaethje in the second round.

Prediction: Khabib Nurmagomedov

Ryan MacCarthy: I believe Khabib walks away 29-0 after a 4th round submission victory. The 1st round will tell us everything. If Justin can use his footwork, use wrestling in the open, I think Justin might be able to outwrestle him in the open. But against the fence, I don’t think so. If Justin can cut Khabib up and land strikes on him in the 1st round then we are in for quite a battle. But if Khabib gets Gaethje up against the fence, then Gaethje could be in for a long night. What isnt talked about enough is how Gaethje was an all American wrestler in college. He is no slouch and we’ll have to see how his takedown defense is. But he is also no Khabib. Khabib can do it against the best wrestlers in the world, regardless of size. It’s a dangerous fight for both guys. But I believe, if I have to put my money on someone, of course you cannot bet against Khabib. His pedigree speaks for itself.

Prediction: Khabib Nurmagomedov

Brian Ortega vs. ‘The Korean Zombie’ Staff Predictions

Brian OrtegaIn the UFC Fight Island 6 main event, we have a super exciting featherweight bout with title implications. Brian Ortega

In the UFC Fight Island 6 main event, we have a super exciting featherweight bout with title implications. Brian Ortega returns to the Octagon for the first time in almost two years to take on ‘The Korean Zombie’ in a fight that will decide who is next in line for 145lb king Alexander Volkanovski. Who’ll earn the next featherweight title shot tonight? Let’s find out what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: This is a great fight and I’m really glad we are finally getting it. I give the edge to ‘The Korean Zombie’ mainly because he has been more active as of late. I expect he will be able to avoid Brian Ortega’s serious submission game and keep this fight on the feet. If ‘T-City’ hasn’t made some vast improvements to his striking defence during his layoff it could be an early night. Either way, I expect ‘TKZ’ to win but it’s hard to predict how when I’m unsure exactly what version of his opponent will show up.

Prediction: ‘The Korean Zombie’

Harry O’Connor: Often Brian Ortega can be known to take damage and I think this might cost him in this fight. Looking at TKZ’s last fight against Edgar, it was a demolition job and I’m not sure that Ortega will be able to withstand that if TKZ is to do the same, I also wonder whether Ortega will be the same after his loss to Holloway, he also hasn’t fought since the end of 2018. I’m going to go with TKZ by TKO in the second round.

Prediction: ‘The Korean Zombie’

Karim Nathan: This is a tough one because I’m not sure how Ortega will look like after almost 2 years out, I think we will definitely see improvements in his striking but he will ultimately try to get it to the mat and I think TKZ’s takedown defense will be good enough for him to keep the fight standing and for Zombie to get the late KO in round 4 or 5.

Prediction: ‘The Korean Zombie’

Ross Markey: Ortega’s certainly had quite the lengthy layoff ahead of this one, just shy of two years, in fact. Since his return from transcription, Zombie has looked almost faultless – scoring knockouts in each of his three wins. Even in his stunning, buzzer-beating defeat to Yair Rodríguez – he looked quite comfortable in the grand scheme of things. He’s also adopted a real sharp standup game, and his rare twister finish of Leonard Garcia shows us his often overlooked grappling chaps. Ortega’s key to success in this one comes late and more likely than not, on the ground – a place I don’t envision Jung allowing him to get comfortable at. Zombie to finish with strikes before the third round.

Prediction: ‘The Korean Zombie’

Abhinav Kini: This is a fight I’ve been eager to see for a while now. However, Brian Ortega’s prolonged absence does make me edge towards the Korean Zombie even more than I did if they fought in December last year. Ortega isn’t one who proactively looks for takedowns and submissions. He will go for it if there’s but he doesn’t mind striking either as we’ve seen in all his recent fights. And for that reason, I don’t think things will end well for him when he’s facing a superior striker in TKZ who has fight-ending power and good takedown defense. I have Zombie getting the KO finish within 2 or 3 rounds.

Prediction: ‘The Korean Zombie’

Ryan MacCarthy: Zombie has looked very very good since he returned to the octagon in 2017. His power is legit, and if it weren’t for the greatest knockout in history a couple of years ago, he’d probably have a title shot by now. It’s really really hard for me to go against Zombie’s momentum right now, but I can’t shake this feeling that two years of change is going to make a world of difference for Ortega. If we see this new and improved version of Brian Ortega after 2 years on the sidelines, my goodness this division needs to watch out. What a scary proposition that would be if he has improved the holes in his game that Holloway exposed. I’m expecting a highly competitive back-and-forth fight of the night and i see Ortega taking this by submission in the 4th round.

Prediction: Brian Ortega

Marlon Moraes vs. Cory Sandhaegn – Staff Predictions

Marlon MoraesIn the UFC Fight Island 5 main event, we have an intriguing bantamweight battle with title implications. Marlon Moraes

In the UFC Fight Island 5 main event, we have an intriguing bantamweight battle with title implications. Long-time contender Marlon Moraes is set to take on Cory Sandhagen over five rounds on ‘Fight Island’ later tonight. Who’ll win? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I really like Marlon Moraes in this fight, especially as an underdog. He pretty much steamrolled the entire bantamweight division on his way to a title shot. The Brazilian only fell short due to the incredible ability of Henry Cejudo. Last time out he beat Jose Aldo despite the fact a lot of fans want to discredit that victory. Cory Sandhagen on the other hand is still somewhat unproven at this level. He has height, reach, and youth on his side but lacks elite-level experience. In his biggest test to date, he was easily subbed by Aljamain Sterling so I struggle to understand why he’s the favourite heading into this fight.

Prediction: Marlon Moraes

Ross Markey: For, Moraes this opportunity against Sandhagen may come with some legitimate title implications. Given the UFC’s hastiness to confirm Aljamain Sterling as the next contender to Petr Yan’s throne, and the fact Moraes holds a rather convincing win over the former – a victory over Sandhagen could potentially see Moraes leapfrog his way into the challenger position. Moraes has been in this sort of position before as well. He was overlooked in favour of José Aldo despite taking a victory over his compatriot, albeit close, but his prior high-level experience should be enough to see him through opposite Sandhagen. Saturday represents another massive, high-profile pairing for the Colorado native, but a change of pace may have benefited him better than a matchup as severe as this. He was out-grappled rather easily by the above mentioned, Sterling in June, but certainly still has the skills to tackle the division’s elite – just not on this occasion I believe.

Prediction: Marlon Moraes

Karim Nathan: This is a fight I’ve been looking forward to for a long time and I think could be fight of the night. Moraes will come out aggressive and look for an early stoppage but I think Cory has a good chin and will be able to weather the storm in the early rounds, then I think Moraes might start to fatigue as he did in the Cejudo fight and that will allow Cory to fight his fight and win by late stoppage.

Prediction: Cory Sandhagen

Abhinav Kini: I can see this being a Fight of the Night. Marlon Moraes is super explosive and very fun to watch, but as seen in his two previous fights, there are many things that the creative Corey Sandhagen can exploit. Moraes doesn’t seem to have the best gas tank either and if he is unable to finish Sandhagen — who is very durable — in the first two rounds, I can definitely seen this being a late finish or decision for Sandhagen which is what I’m currently edging towards.

Prediction: Cory Sandhagen

Ryan MacCarthy: Im shocked Marlon is the underdog here. Im not very confident in Sandhagen after his fight with Sterling. What we’ve seen Marlon do with his switch kicks, the way he disguises it and throws quick, it’s beautiful. He switches like his feet are on fire. He knocked out Aljamain like that. He knocked out Jimmie Rivera like that. And i believe he will do the same to Cory Sandhagen. I expect to see Marlon looking to chop Sandhagen down, a lot of low kicks initially. And then Marlon weighs heavy on his experience and what it takes to win a five-round fight. I think Marlon is gonna win by TKO. I’m gonna say in the third round most likely. Im surprised he’s the underdog, but i also love it. Great way to make some dough.

Prediction: Marlon Moraes

The UFC continues it’s impressive run of events on Yas Island AKA ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi this Saturday night. Topping the card is a bantamweight match-up with title implications between Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen.

Prior to that fans get to enjoy a stacked six-fight main card. Join us ahead of UFC Fight Island 5 as we preview and predict each of those bouts. If you’re going to be putting money down this weekend stick with us and check out 20bet for all the best MMA & football betting odds.

Marlon Moraes vs. Cory Sandhagen

This is an intriguing main event match-up. Marlon Moraes is a long-time contender at bantamweight and has only came up short against the very best – Henry Cejudo. He holds high profile wins over the likes of Aljamain Sterling, Pedro Munhoz, Jose Aldo, Raphael Assuncao, Jimmie Rivera and John Dodson. Despite his clear pedigree he is considered the underdog this weekend by the oddsmakers who have priced him at +110. His opponent, Cory Sandhagen is the slight favourite at -137 but we aren’t quite sure why. Sandhagen has got height, reach and youth on his side heading into this one but the 28-year-old has not proven himself to be at the same level as Moraes, not yet anyway. Last time out he was quickly tapped by Sterling who as we mentioned earlier lost to Moraes. While MMA math doesn’t always work out it would be silly to pass up on the brilliant Brazilian as an underdog in this one.

Edson Barboza vs. Makwan Amirkhani

Former lightweight contender Edson Barboza is a considerable favourite to get his first victory at 145lbs against Makwan Amirkhani this weekend. The Brazilian knockout artist is -250 to record to the win and we think he will do just that. Barboza is on a two-fight losing streak but has looked really good in both of them and only lost out to Paul Felder and Dan Ige due to some dodgy judging. Amirkhani is a good fighter but has never beat anyone at this level. He is also stepping up on short notice, so you have to question if he’s ready for the biggest fight of his life. We predict no and for that reason will be betting on Barboza to score a finish in this one at odds of +120.

Ben Rothwell vs. Marcin Tybura

A really tough fight to call in the heavyweight division. Ben Rothwell and Marcin Tybura are really well matched, so we have two bets for you to consider in this one. Rothwell is the favourite at -170. We think he is likely to get this fight done inside the distance and betting on that will boost his odds to +175. However, Tybura is capable of edging this one out on the scorecards. We doubt he will be able to finish ‘Big Ben’ who hasn’t suffered a stoppage defeat since 2013. So, if you are leaning towards the Polish fighter be sure to bet on him to get the decision at odds of +250.

Markus Perez vs. Dricus Du Plessis

Another intriguing match-up. Another fight that’s hard to call. Markus Perez is the +130 underdog in this one and we will be picking him purely for the value. Perez is a three-year UFC veteran and has picked up some impressive wins during his time with the company. The favourite, Du Plessis still has it all to prove at this level. His odds of -160 suggest the bookmakers are backing his reputation over the already obvious fighting ability of Perez but we always fancy the more experienced fighter against a UFC debutante.

Tom Aspinall vs. Alan Baudot

The 26-year-old English heavyweight, Tom Aspinall looked sensational in his UFC debut earlier this year. The teammate of Darren Till made quick work of Jake Collier who by no means was expected to beat Aspinall but was supposed to put up more of a fight. The win earned Aspinall a $50,000 bonus and a ton of new fans who’ll be excited to see him compete again. He’s a huge -500 favourite in this one so if your hoping to make some money by betting on him you’re going to have predict the round he stops late replacement opponent Alan Baudot in his UFC debut. In our opinion, it’s going to be early. Baudot usually competes at 205lbs and will likely struggle to cope with Aspinall’s power. We are gonna give the French fighter some credit and hope he survives round one as it only pays -105. Whereas an Aspinall finish in round two will give much bigger odds of +450.

Youssef Zalal vs. Ilia Topuria

We really like Youssef Zalal. He has looked great since joining the UFC earlier this year. Zalal already has three wins inside the Octagon and is understandably the favourite heading into this one at -188. His opponent is undefeated and has looked brilliant throughout his eight professional fights against less than impressive opposition. The bookmakers have him an underdog at +163 which may entice some to have a flutter on the European fighter. We will be sticking with Zalal. Whatever happens both these fighters look destined for big thing aged just 24 and 23 years old.
